  1. Stafford is very good...very athletic.  Correct...lost only 3 seniors from last years 31-7 team.  However....if you do not play ANY over the summer....or compete to get better....chances are....you won't improve.  I'm afraid we are learning that lesson the hard way. We'll get better by the time playoffs roll around.  Just hope it is NOT too late!!!  And-- the sad part---won't ever be as good as we should be!!! You have to spend time in the gym to be a good basketball player!!!
  2. Joe Do you think that things between the two chapters will ever be resolved???/  Maybe by December???  This is nuts.  This will hurt high school basketball. I hope things can get resolved.
  3. Madisonville returns ALL 5 starters from last year's regional semi final team. They will be really good. However...the team to beat in District 24 will be Bryan Rudder. They, too, return EVERYONE from last years team that won 20 games. Plus they got three transfers from Oakwood. THEY ARE LOADED!!!!
  4. Actually---the kid is a 4 year old from Anderson , Texas. His dad is the head basketball coach @ Anderson Shiro High School. Coach Tidwell has a long..long history of helping others. Whether it is a player, former player, coach or coaching family member...Larry Tidwell gives of himself more than anyone I know. Lamar is very lucky to have a person of his integrity.
  5. That's very possible!!!! Tough road for District 24-AAA teams!!!
  6. THe Navasota Rattler's should be a solid team again this season. Graduated only two players...although one was pt. guard Jacoby Stokes. Both big men return...both are 6-7---and a good shooting guard. However, Hardin Jefferson has had their number the PAST THREE seasons. Winner of District 24 gets a bye to play 2nd place from District 22. Which means another tough playoff road for the Rattler's!!!
  7. I am right with you BOBCAT05. Seems as though time stands still without hoops!!!! Sounds like there will be some really outstanding girl's teams again in 09-10 from the Golden Triangle. And with some new coaches at new schools...should be another exciting season.
  8. No body does good in Caldwell. It is a serious volleyball school. Not sure they have ever made the playoffs in hoops...but they dominate in volleyball...then allthose good athletes play winter club volleyball then spring and summer volleyball. He was in a tough district with Madisonville, Taylor, Navasota and Bryan Rudder...but did finish behind all those and ahead of Cameron and Rockdale.
  9. JASON SANDERS was at Caldwell for 3 seasons....before that was head coach at Johnson City. Seems like a great guy. I know he works extremely hard.
  10. What a tremendously classy person you are Bob!!! The entire profession is lucky to have people like you in it. Your loyalty, support, understanding and love for kids is remarkable. You are a person who not only talks the talk...but walks the walk. You live your life as an example to others. You have had such a positive impact on not only your players...but officials, administrators and fans. You even served as an example to those of us coaching against you on the opposite bench. You had a great run at Silsbee and I know you will do the same at Kountze.
  11. Just heard that Silsbee hired the former Caldwell coach.
  12. He is a tremendous coach but an even better person. He is so loyal to his players...both present and former. I am amazed at the job he and his staff have done in rebuilding the LAMAR LADY CARDINAL program. I got to play in his golf tournament on April 20th and it was a very well run classy event. Raised lots of dollars for his players to go to summer school. Billy Tubbs and Dr. Simmons made a great hire in Larry Tidwell.
  13. Carol You know where I coach...we'll need ALL the luck we can get. It's a three ring circus where every day is a NEW adventure.
  14. A few hints..... we played a playoff game a few years back...@ Willis HS we were very lucky to get the win. we are royal blue.
  15. I have been meaning to add to this topic for weeks now. I had the pleasure of meeting Coach Sims about 6 years ago. Only had to coach against her once (was VERY...I mean VERY lucky to get out with a win) But I did get to watch her teams play at least once...(and some times more) a year since then. Her teams were ALWAYS well prepared. Her players always conducted themselves with class which is a direct reflection of their leader. Carol was also very loyal to the other teams in her district. I'd call and ask questions about other district opponents and she was professional, but would never give out information that she felt would put them at a disadvantage. I have great respect for her because of her loyalty to the other programs in the Golden Triangle. I consider her a true friend and always enjoy visiting with her at coaching clinics and the state tournament. The coaching profession can be very tough...lots of cut throat and back stabbing. Coach Sims always took the high road and stayed above it all. The profession will truly miss her as will all those young people who hearts she touch. Enjoy your retirement. You are a CLASS ACT!!!!
  16. There are a few good jobs that have opened,,although not in the Golden Triangle area. 2A Schulenberg 5A Katy Cinco Ranch These are two really good jobs. Good facilities and both pay well.
  17. I can't believe that either Orangefield or Hardin Jefferson were not in the top 20. Both are deserving. OF was in the top top before they got beat....they don't deserve to drop ALL the way out of the top 20.
  18. AGREED!!!! NICE. There are some very talented players on this list. Also,,,,congrats to Coach Jost.
  19. Navasota by 6!! It will be a battle but i see Navasota coming out on top. HJ has one of the best PG's in the state of Jarvis Bernard but Navasota has so many weapons. Their Junior class is outstanding led by 6'2 Guard Jersey Gates and 6'5 Jarvis Harrison. Harrison and Gates are two of the deadliest Juniors in the state in 3A and word has it that they are the same AAU summer team for the Houston LYNX. Great matchup set for friday, I know for a fact that Caney Creek gym will be rocking!
  20. WACO ROBINSON 44 BULLARD 36 MADISONVILLE 66 TAYLOR 58 Class AAA Region III Tournament 6:15 DIBOLL vs MADISONVILLE 8:00 NAVASOTA vs WACO ROBINSON
  21. The Longhorns played very well...got down big early...but kept fighting back. Got down by more than 20 late in the 3rd quarter but actually cut the lead to 12, 56-44 with just over two minutes remaining. They are to be commended. A very nice, well disciplined group of young ladies. District 21-AAA had another fine seaon.
  22. Final score NAVASOTA 62 HAMSHIRE FANNETT 49 The Longhorns played hard and NEVER quit!!!!
  23. What a game this was!!!! Congratulations to Crockett and Coach Watkins on a great season. 30-3 record is something to be proud about. Coach Knight has Diboll rolling!!! They are as good as advertised. I was impressed!!! It was a really good game to watch!!!
  24. BOBCAT 05 Not sure what the odd reason(s) for not getting game tapes on Navasota. They don't have any signed contracts with their opponents and District 24-AAA does not have a rule about not giving out tapes...as some districts do!!! I have never had problems getting opponent game tapes.
