Thanks BH85. Glad to know Dalanna is playing very well. After looking over the schedule, I will try to make the home game against Village School (Houston) on December 10th. I hadn't seen Dalanna and sophomores on the court since middle school, and look forward to checking them out.

Thanks Bronco/Cat Fan. Nice to know they looked good and should have a good year. Hopefully, the team will address the needed work and be at its peek for the play-offs. The freshman guard (#23) is my cousin - and nice to hear you comment that she looks promising. Certainly, she and her parents have put in the time and work over the years. Again, thanks.

How well is BH playing?

Personally, I don't think Crosby can be too upset with limiting #23 to 13 points.  If anything, probably could have made sure a body was on him at all times to box him out and avoiding a few of those put-backs.  Simply, Crosby didn't make Terry shoot many outside shots.  Terry's guards, particularly #2 (16 free throw attempts), were constantly in attack mode either making the layups and/or going to the free throw line...or driving and making no-look dish-offs to #14 Billy White.  The constant pressure on Terry's guards definitely made passes inside to Derrick Griffin anything but easy, but it also opened up the floor and forced Terry's guards into attack mode.  Overall, both teams played well.  Congrats Crosby on a great season!!!

Ozen's free throws: 14 of 26 Crosby's free throws: 13 of 20 That was a big 3 pointer from the corner hit by Tristan Egans, but Ozen answered with a 3 pointer. Ozen's, #23 (Jordan Hunter) is a great player who hit a couple of big shots down the stretch, but #15 Demasters Sam was feeling it, however, didn't get many touches the last few minutes of the game. Great job TJ Stewart and Jakeith Williams! Congrats Cougars!!

4A Georgetown            10        11      8        12                41 Tomball                    3          5      10      12                  30 Kaitlin Walla #32 of Georgetown scored 22 pts.  In the 4th quarter, Georgetown did not make a field goal, but was 12 of 15 from the free throw line.  This game, Georgetown did not shoot the ball well and looked somewhat out of sync at times...especially when 6'1" #55 Hayley Hunter had to sit because of foul trouble and a brief shoulder injury.  Up until Georgetown's reserves entered the game the last minute of the 4th, Georgetown was 12 of 13 from the free throw line. (The reserves, 0-2.) ____________________________________________________ 5A Clear Springs          16        8        9        22                    55 Seven Lakes          16        6      13        9                    44 Courtnie Latham #33 of Clear Springs scored 13 points in the 4th quarter to help pull Clear Springs ahead of Seven Lakes for the win. Christen Inman #24 of Seven Lakes had 25 points, making it necessary for Clear Springs to have an impressive 4th quarter.

Georgetown is fundamentally sound offensively and defensively.  In regards to Georgetown's offense, if your team's defensive principles are not tight, Georgetown will expose those weaknesses and get high percentage shots from its guards and posts.  In regards to Georgetown's defense, if your team can't neutralize Georgetown's size, pressure, and faster pace game, scoring can be somewhat problematic. The players are disciplined, play hard from beginning to end, and the team is well coached.

The faithful Georgetown fans including 52 Sun City Eagle Boosters on a charter bus made the trip to cheer on their team. Before the game as the crowd started arriving, it was like looking in a mirror across the court. Barbers Hill team was there in their white with blue uniforms and the crowd was solid blue. This had all the signs of a good game. Georgetown ranked #1 in the state and Barbers Hill ranked #5. Both teams with outstanding coaches leading their teams and both schools with an outstanding girls basketball program. What followed next in just 4 quarters and 32 minutes of basketball was incredible. Just to get to the bottom line, without making you teasing you anymore, the Georgetown Lady Eagles 44 – Barbers Hill Lady Eagles 42. For those that want more detail, read below. You just had to be there and hopefully the words below can explain why. The game started out a little slow with both teams missing their shots and making little mistakes on offense. But, Georgetown still managed to take the lead at 7-0 with 4 ½ minutes to go in the first quarter. It seemed like there was a lid on the basket for Barbers Hill until they hit a 3 pointer at the two minute mark. It must have been catchy because Georgetown did not score for the rest of the quarter. BH would score 4 more points and the game was tied at 7-7. The second quarter started out with BH hitting another 3 to take the lead 10-7. The defenses were doing their job especially for BH who were just clinging onto GT as they tried to get the open shot. This resulted in some missed shots and a low scoring quarter, but every time GT would get the lead, here would come a 3 pointer from down town. The score at halftime was GT 18  BH 16. Fans from both teams took a little break and were buzzing over the close game. In the third quarter the scoring continued to be spotty with both teams playing hardnosed defense. Georgetown would grab the lead, and then here would come a 3 pointer to keep BH in the game. GT was having trouble with their offense and on defense just couldn’t keep a fast passing team from getting open for those 3 pointers. So at the end of 3 quarters Georgetown found their selves behind by one point 24 – 25. A little incredible since all year at this point of the game the starters were resting and the reserves were in the game with big leads. But, then things got worse, in the beginning of the 4th quarter BH went on a little run which included some great 3 pointers and took a nine point lead at 37-28 with just a little over 6 minutes left in the game. Was this the end of the road for the #1 team in the state. What happened from there on out was highly exciting and incredible. The Georgetown Lady Eagles who had played this far with only 6 players seeing action, reached down and played from that point on from the heart. It was so exciting that this reporter could hardly keep track of play. With 3 minutes and 18 seconds to go GT stilled trailed by 6 at 31-37, but momentum started to change as the team went into full court pressure. With a little under two minutes to play they tied the game at 37-37. Then they took the lead at 39-37. With around 1 minute to go, GT had the lead 41- 39 and were at the foul line shooting a 1 on 1. The first shot went in to make it 42-39 with under 18 seconds to go. But, the second shot fell short and down the court came Barbers Hill with one last desperation 3 point shot which did not go in, but a GT defender was a little too aggressive and fouled the shooter. The BH player stepped to the line and calming put in the first shot, then the second, and then the third with fans screaming after each point. Unbelievably the game was tied again with less than 10 second to go at 42-42. Georgetown did not take a time out, Kaitlin Walla drove the length of the court and threw up a left hand layup that just spun out with 3 seconds left only to go in the hands of Hayley Hunter with a great rebound and put back for the winning basket as time ran out. Georgetown 42 Barbers Hill 40. What a incredible comeback and win. Barbers Hill gave everything they had only to come up two points short as their season ended. Those girls, like Georgetown, showed a lot of heart all night long. Georgetown is now 30-4 and moves onto the Regional Semifinal game at the Aldine ISD Campbell Center on Friday, February 22, at 5:00pm. They will face Rosenburg Lamar Consolidated, winner of District 23. More detail and any corrections to this article will be made on Wednesday after this reporter has had a good nights’ sleep. Girlz Prep Report article: _____________________________________________________________ Wednesday, February 20, 2013 Despite Carter's heroics Barbers Hill comes up short As I look back to this past weekend when I saw the elementary school players at the Ganon Baker Camp, it makes me realize how quickly this stuff happens and watching Kimi Carter continue to develop into the silent assassin I predicted she would become after seeing her in elementary school as well. Last season, she started as freshman on a Barbers Hill team that made it to state and this season, they almost made it back to the  R3 F-4 Carter led the Eagles with 18 points including three free throws to tie the game with less than 20 seconds remaining, talk about pressure however Georgetown went the length of the floor for a lay-up, which they missed, however they rebounded the miss and scored for the 44-42 win. No one though Barbers Hill would do as well as they did this season, but with Carter and Mackenzie May, who seven threes the previous game, this duo was even more dynamic than I would have imagined BOX SCORE Posted by sim111 at 10:03 AM

And it still wasn’t quite enough. The Georgetown Lady Eagles showed why they have been ranked No. 1 in the state for most of the season by rallying from a 37-28 deficit with 5:34 left in the game to stun the Barbers Hill Lady Eagles 44-42 in the third round of the Region III-4A girls’ basketball playoffs. Georgetown (25-6) now advances to this weekend’s Region III-4A tournament at the Aldine ISD Campbell Center, while Barbers Hill, which was seeking its second straight regional title, finished an otherwise brilliant season 31-5. “Wow,’’ said an emotionally exhausted Georgetown head coach Rhonda Farney after the miraculous comeback win. “We had never been in that kind of situation this year. But our girls never gave up.’’ Carter, who carried Barbers Hill the entire game, hit three straight free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt by Haley Frias to knot the game at 42-42 with 10.82 seconds to play. “That was remarkable,’’ Farney said of Carter’s three straight free throws under immense pressure. “You don’t see many college or professionals that can do that.’’ After Carter’s third make, Georgetown elected to quickly inbound the ball to 5-foot-11 guard Kaitlin Walla and let her take it the length of the floor. Walla’s running one hander in the lane was off the mark, but 6-1 post Hayley Hunter grabbed the weak side rebound and calmly banked the ball back up and in just before the buzzer to send the Georgetown crowd into a frenzy and the Barbers Hill faithful into shock. Seniors Makenzi May and Kaylee Kana practially had to be carried into the locker room after playing all 32 minutes and losing the game in such gut-wrenching fashion. “I thought we were a little tight,’’ admitted Farney, who watched her club grab a 7-0 lead, then fall behind 13-9 before rebounding to cut Barbers Hill’s lead to 30-28 at half. “But give Barbers Hill and Coach (Tri) Danley credit. They had the perfect game plan to slow us down. They played terrific defense.’’ The Lady Eagles also were hitting just enough 3-pointers to offset Georgetown’s inside game and keep the talented  Walla from getting the ball on the break and finding Frias and Hunter for easy baskets. Barbers Hill, after starting the game by missing its first 10 shots, hit nine 3-pointers for the game to finish their three-game playoff run with 26 triples. May, who had seven threes in a 62-40 win over Montgomery, was held to only one three, while Abbey Houghton had two threes and freshman Leah Silva hit back-to-back threes to rally Barbers Hill from a six-point deficit midway through the third period. Carter, who had four triples, took over in the fourth quarter, hitting a 3-pointer and a runner in the lane to up Barbers Hill’s lead to 37-28 with 5:34 to play. Barbers Hill twice had a chance to increase the lead to double digits, but committed costly turnovers on back-to-back possessions. Hunter scored on the inside and drew the foul to cut the lead to 37-31 with 4:40 left. After May and Carter both had their shots blocked, Walla hit a free throw to cut the lead to 37-32 with 3:18 left, and Frias came up with a steal and drained Georgetown’s first 3-pointer of the night to slice the margin to 37-35. Georgetown had missed 13 straight 3-pointers to that point. “I think Haley was bound and determined to keep slinging them up there until she got one,’’ Farney said. “That was a huge momentum swing for us.’’ After Houghton missed a three, Walla hit two free throws to tie the game at 37-37 with 2:10 to play. Georgetown grabbed its first lead of the fourth quarter when Lorrie Santoy scored off a steal, but Carter tied the game at 39-39 with a bank shot in the lane with 1:05 to play. Walla answered with a short jumper to give Georgetown a 41-39 lead with 45 ticks left. After Georgetown fouled May and Kaylee Kana, Barbers Hill was trying to work it around for a good shot before it committed a turnover with 19 seconds left. Houghton fouled Frias with 16 seconds to play, but Frias was only able to make one of the two free throws to leave the lead at 42-39 and set the stage for Carter’s dramatic free throws and Hunter’s eventual game winner. Farney, who has more than 950 wins in her coaching career, said the game was a classic. But how high does the victory rank in her career? “It’s the biggest win for tonight,’’ she said. “The game was just phenomenal.’’ Carter paced Barbers Hill with 21 points. Silva, who fouled out with 3:18 left in the game, May and Houghton also had six points apiece.  

Really, 25 points??? Your prediction is, to say the least, "very interesting." Oh well!  But hey....the challenge of playing a "college" caliber team should make our game anything but boring.  Guess we will see......
