  1. I have seen high school coaches take a team with literally no baseball talent and improve the team's skills tremendously. At the end of the season there were no playoffs, but one could certainly tell that TEACHING had gone on during the season. These are perhaps the coaches that are deserving of Coach of the Year, rather than the coach of the district winner. But that's not how the game is played. Bottom line...there ARE good and bad coaches. More good than bad! Many times parents are out of hand and it is 'my child' over 'the team.' Many posts have made this same statement...I concur. There are more positive parents/fans than negative, but it seems even if it is one parent, it is a cancer for the entire community of coaches, players, and fans of the game. A coach is a teacher first, as has been stated, and that teaching goes on on the field as well as in the classroom. I know coaches that have even tutored their players in athletics period to help them stay eligible during the season. There are many behind-the-scenes activities to help players that the majority does not see or know about. I appreciate Scott Kaiser's article.
  2. I think the coaches of each team have good work ethics, take their players through the drills exceptionally, and put their players in best positions to win. There are coaches from several of the schools...not sure about all...that have baseball backgrounds. As usual, pitching and defense will probably be the determining factor. Experience will be key, too, I'm sure. It should be a great season to watch, as usual. And...not too long before it begins!
  3. "wanted it more than the HJ kids tonight"...such a cliche...I think all players want to win their respective ball games. It might be that it just doesn't work out b/c the other team's adjustments work. That sounds like it was a pretty evenly matched game...tied at halftime, tied at end of regulation. Just so happened when the buzzer sounded to end the game, HJ was behind. Game over...good game.
  4. So happy for him! Glad he got out of Liberty...hope his baseball season is as successful as his football season. Great guy! My son was fortunate to have had him as a coach and friend. Continued success to him as a member of the Dayton Bronco staff.
  5. Both teams come in with stats. The teams on the field next Saturday at 2 is all that matters. It all boils down to that!
  6. State Champs 1A-Windthorst 2A-Bushland 3A-Lucas Lovejoy (no seniors) 4A-Hereford 5A-Amarillo Sandies (3rd state championship in a row)
  7. Way to go Hardin. Congratulations to Regina, Randy, and the girls! Some more work to do, so keep it going!
  8. Great showing, Warren! I know that Centerville was in the state tournament last year in San Marcos, and the Centerville coach says he has a stronger team this year. He likes his chances. Way to go...hold your heads up high! Build on this experience. Good luck!
  9. WOW! And at playoff time! Sad for all involved. This situation should not be aired on this forum.
  10. Man, you started this forum, then get mighty defensive. They are just responding to your opening question.
  11. Not in the mix...I am from a school in another district. Just a bystander. Tri-champs. Sorry. Winner will take all in San Marcos on November 22. That's how it all shakes out.
  12. HJ's chances are good to make the playoffs, but definitely not a 'done deal.' It seems I recall two years ago in baseball (I know this is the football forum) that HJ was thinking they were not going to make the playoffs b/c Silsbee was going to beat HF in their final game of the season. Well, didn't happen, and HJ indeed made the playoffs. Many times the improbable happens. Play hard, finish strong, and be proud!
  13. "UIL technicality"...I think those are called 'rules!' District ended Tuesday night. The playoff for seeding is for seeding. End of story. Congratulations to Hardin, Kountze, and Warren. Nice job, ladies!
  14. The three teams finish as district tri-champs, right? Aren't they playing for seeding in the playoffs?
  15. Hope this was the great game you expected. I saw the first game between the two schools, and it was a great game...Warren in 5. What an exciting volleyball district! Way to go!
  16. Way to go Coach Snell and Hardin volleyball!!!! Finish it out!!!!
  17. The Hardin Lady Hornets' volleyball team played a fantastic game against the Bridge City Lady Cardinals on Friday afternoon. The two teams had to play 5 games with a fifth game score of 15-13. Fun game to watch. Both teams played hard. Hardin also does not have a gym. Their high school and middle schools were both damaged in the storm. They are playing their home games in Devers. They will probably be finishing the volleyball season playing in Devers. Good luck to both teams in their respective districts under these challenging conditions!
  18. There were a couple of critical passes dropped last week. A 46-yard field goal...impressive!
  19. Offense looked promising to begin with, too. Two passes go right through receivers hands, etc. Pass protection a bit weak by line. They'll get some kinks out...Cleveland broke two long runs...work to do on both sides and I'm sure the coaches and players know it better than anyone. Good luck Hawks.
  20. Regina Snell at Hardin was an awesome setter for Liberty High School in her playing days...
  21. I heard that Justine Anderson...coached at Liberty as an assistant last year...is the new coach at WH.
