How can you say HJ won the Lumberton tournament?  All the teams didn't play the same amount of games due to rainouts.  There were other teams in the tournament without a loss.

Whoever started this thread should be ashamed along with the negative comments. I have a son in this program and he has come home day after day telling me this Coach is the real deal. My son is motivated, he believes in this program, he wants to work hard for Harris and his staff. Yes I said work, they are working them, tearing those muscles tissues down. Guess what the human body responds to rebuild that tissue! They know what they are doing and for all the parents in Fannett that dont like their kid having to work then get the heck out of Fannett, we dont want you or your kid! That is the issue it hasnt all been coaching its the parents/schoolboard! The school board needs to stop the nonsense and not even talk about anything negative with this new coach. Harris will stay here, and Fannett will be winning soon! If the parents and schoolboard runs him out, I know for a fact the top 5 athletes and others will leave, my son being one!
The top 5 or anyone else that appeared on the varsity roster won't be going anywhere.  They became "locked" to HF as soon as they were put on varsity.....unless they are willing to sit out a year
That's not completely true.  If they were at a d1 college, yes, you'd be spot on.  If their parents move into another district they are eligible to play immediately.
They can't play immediately on varsity
Yes sir, they can.  If they move into the district and start the season in a new town, living in a new district, they can play immediately.
The Hunter boys are a perfect example.  They moved to another district, all parties involved would not sign off and after meeting with UIL the boys were still not allowed to play varsity. Even a freshman that moved to HF this year had to sit out atleast 5 games before being eligible to play varsity.  I suppose if everything fell into place perfectly an athlete might be able to play varsity immediately.

 5.
At some point you have to stop blaming the coaches, not that I am backing Harris.  He said the right things to get hired, and you have to give hime time to implement his stuff; what ever that might be.  At one point,  in the last couple of years, H-F had 4 ADs on staff.  This years staff has a coordinator that has only coached 3 years total; and you want him to stop WOS, Silsbee; come on people!!  Instead of using someone on staff with a little more "football knowledge" to lead the defense, Harris puts it on a young guy and you get the results that were posted on another thread; worst in the district.  If he wants to leave let him go, and take whomever with him!  I am pretty sure he said "2 and 8 was unexceptable!  It is the coaches fault when a team goes 2-8 that they are not prepared week in and week out" when he hired in. Offseason is another animal... I am sure the new basketball coach is loving the fact that his basketball players did nothing but legs for a solid week after football started their "offseason" workout.  Maybe that's why they lost to Kountze 100-17.  17 points in four 8 minute quarters!!!  The kids COULDN'T MOVE!  Don't kill the other programs because your football team went winless in district.  Randy I know you work out, and several of us do; but you don't do legs for 45 min for 5 straight days (4 sets of 10) without working out other muscle groups.  Good luck to the rest of the programs this year.  Hopefully things will improve soon in Longhorn land.
I agree with your statement.....don't kill the other programs because your football team went winless in district.  Harris is an AD, therefore, he should want ALL sports at HF to succeed.  Instead, he is trying to cripple the other sports.  Other programs (soccer, basketball, etc) working out is not unusual, but, its wrong to be working out on GAME DAY.  If football is all he gives a flip about, make him the head football coach ONLY!!  Just curious.......did football players work out or do their "max" on game day?

Based on what I saw last night, I see no reason for HF to be swapping out QB's during the game. IMO, Dante Smith should take every single snap at QB. I see ZERO reason for King to be at QB this season. Next year, yes, but Smith is a senior, more experienced and in my eyes the better QB at this point. It is just too tough to ask a freshmen to be a QB at the varsity level. I thought Dante played really well last night. Throws the ball with lot's of zip. I was impressed with his running strength as well. Like I said, just based on what I saw last night, just do not understand why HF has swapped QB's during the season.
Total agree......freshman are hurting for a QB.  King could have helped that group this year or atleast be used more effectively at another position on varsity.

We have alot of talent coming up lets see how it goes. We may never be able to compete against WOS and Silsbee but you never know. It is a game and you never can tell whats going to happen in a game with kids playing!!!! As for the parents out there tell your kid to play as hard as they can and never give up!!! As for all you transplants that have moved in get on board or go back to where you came from!!! My question to you is why did you choose to move in our area? Why didn't you stay in your hometown? GO HORNS!!!!!!!!
Being an HF resident and longhorn supporter I can say I don't agree with this thought process.  We are a small community and I personally believe all families, transplant and local, are vital to our community thriving. We should never push anyone away.  You ask why did they choose to move in our area?  I say, why not?
Amen to that
 9.
I Got to amit I did not see this loss coming. The HF Offense did not play well at all as a team. IMHO, Splendora was a much improved team from last year. It was not that long ago that Splendora was the team to beat in that district. Granted Splendora made some mistakes as well and really could have blew out the Horns that night with all the turnovers & miscues HF had. I am not really sure where I stand as far as the QB issue. Part of me says give the Senior a chance because lets face it his offensive line did a horrible job and could not block anything. Then part of me says he does not seem to embrace the part of being the leader of the team and I think we can all agree his descision making under stress is not that good. Heck this is his 3rd year at QB and the game should have slowed down for him by now, our style of offense has not changed only the coach. He is too quick to hang his head and let things snowball when things are not going well, a 3 year starter should not do that. The team feeds off the QB's attitude and if they see him give up so will they. We need to give Coach Harris a chance, this is his first gig as a HFC. He is looking out for the future of the HF FB program and can tell that the Freshman has natural ability. Coach Harris was a QB Coach at Midland Lee prior taking the helm at HF. I think if anyone can develope a QB it would be him. I do think he needs to decide quickly who he is going to go with and stick with him. I do not think a 2 QB system will work in HS FB. Other Teams will be to quick to pick up on your tendancies. As for the HF defense I think they did a good job of staying motivated, being they were on the field most of the game. I will say this, they need to do a better job of tackling. There were quite a few big runs that should have been stopped for a loss or a minimal gain, too many arm tackles. Just because the Horns lost their first game to what many perceive was a sub par team does not mean the season is doomed. They just need to learn from this and get back to work and get motivated. As a Senior, If lettting a Freshman take your job does not motivate you then I am not sure anything will. I was disappointed in the overall lack of enthusiasm from the Players, Coaches, Student body, Administration and the fans in the stands for that matter. Like the previous poster said we need to re-instill a culture of winning at HF. HF has a proud past and winning tradition and we need to get back to that as a community. I hope everyone comes out fired up and ready to take it too Anahuac Friday night in our home opener. Good Luck Horns I am still in your corner.
Your disappointment in the lack of enthusiasm from players, coaches and student body is a reflection of what they have endured from Harris.  If his approach doesn't change, many athletes have expressed walking away from the game or even worse, transfering schools.  HF has already lost too many good athletes. We can't afford to loose any more.  Its simple....athletes who respect their coach will want to perform for that coach.
 10.
Although the kid did well ,but you lost the respect of your team and that's hard to regain in Longhorn land. Just don't make the Team. Suffer.
Coach lost their respect long before this game
