1.
When is the "if" game?
Things are changing.  I will let you know as soon as I get a "firm" game plan.  I know that the 3rd game would have been Sat. at another location.
2. Warren/Centerville will play a double hitter at Humble High School? Friday starting at 4pm.
3. Good game  They do make it interresting! The district has been fun to watch, and will be for the next couple of years. WOW!  Warren in the Playoffs, who could have guessed that.  Good job by all.
4.
Umpires these days. What are they thinking? Giving the seat belt to a coach who disagrees with a call and questions the umps authority? What is baseball coming to these days? Lol
After being in the business 30 years,  Maybe they are just not thinking.  I am here to tell you the officiating these days is terrible.  Baseball and basketball officials seem to be making themselves part of the play.  They make judgements on the rules rather than administer them. And that is why they get their authority questioned.
5. Very good game. The teams were pretty evenly matched. I was a shame that the field ump made the difference in the game, two late and bad calls.  The bad sportsmanship came from guys in blue.  If a coach lets a obvious bad call go, I don't want him.  Usuallly when a coach gets ejected it's because he was right and the ump can't deal with it.  Warren made enough mistakes to lose without help.
6. Tied 5 to 5 in the 5th.  Warren's bat took over in the 6th. Final  Warren 9 EC 5.  Good tough game played by both teams.  Lot's of runners left on.
7. Not pretty, but, a very exciting game. The Warriors just will not go away or give up.  Keep it up boys!
8. Warren and Onalaska played a non-district game today at 1pm.  Warren won 4 - 2.  The Warren coach played his younger players quite a bit and it was a good outing for both teams.
9. This is her 2nd year to coach. Last year, her first year, she was the Jr. Hi Assistant .  She comes from a coaching family and should have the skills.  Her dad is the Bridge City girls varsity coach. A team full of seniors has helped this year, the test will come next year.  I wish her and the girls the best.
10. It looks to me that the whole district is down a bit.  This makes this a good year for Warren and their Freshmen.  They are actually better than I thought they would be.
11. Well, we will not see a rematch of this one. Woodville lost to Hardin and Warren beat New Waverly. And the plot thickens.
12.
Acutually, the first phone call that Warren received involved asking for a flip.  The Warren coach declined the flip and said "we want to play".  There was then a 2'nd phone call in which information was given about a Hardin player being injured and due to this, they declined to play and chose to take 2'nd seed.  The following day a 3'rd phone call was received asking that Warren go ahead and agree to play.....which is what Warren wanted in the first place. Apparently information was relayed incorrectly to Hardin fans, parents, etc., and other area coaches. These are 2 very strong teams who have the ability to make it in the playoffs, but you should really talk to the Hardin coaches and see if your information is correct before you post on here, because you are hearing something totally different than what is true! I know that all Warren wants to do is PLAY and WIN!!!!!  Good luck tonight Lady Warriors!!! ;)
Don't have a dog in the hunt. but this is the way it went down.  These are two very good teams and I hope they meet in the playoffs.
13. "the rules change daily". If this is true then there are no rules, and that is what's wrong with my sport. I guess I am just to old and out of touch. The skill level and play of today's game makes me ill. You young guys missed a great game.
14. "a pressing team that is taught how to play defense vs. a team that does not know how to play correct defense.... hmmmm.... the pressing team should have fewer fouls...." Reaching, slapping, hand checking is not good defense. I see very very few players playing good defense. How many guard with palms up? How many shuffle their feet? That's my point. It's not taught, the athletes are just too fast for the ref and are getting away with poor defense and tons of fouls. Why would a pressing team ever have fewer fouls? You can't hardly get called for a charge, so any contact should be a defense foul.
15. I guess I had better eat my Hot Dog with chili and cheese in the first quarter, probably will have lost my appetite by the half.
16. The list is good. But two things really get to me. 1st a pressing team having fewer fouls than the team being pressed. 2nd, not getting credit for taking a charge. I disagree with the offensive player having an advantage over the defence. I know why it's that a way just don't like it.
17. They had some real good Hot Dogs with chili and cheese. Didn't get to see a basketball game.
18. I have several extra tickets available. e-mail me. $90ea
19. Sorry to disappoint you guys but I am not going to blame the refs. The two trained and experienced refs did a good job. Warren had way too many turnovers, poor shot selection and missed free throws. Good luck to all as this will be my last post. It's been a great 30 years.
20. Very simple if backcourt fouls are not called, kountze will win big. If called it will be a good game between two good teams. I still cannot understand how a team that presses and traps can get less fouls. Sorry, it's fundemental, expected and should be part of the game. I don't expect you to understand obviously it's not part of the game you grew up with.
21. Odd, isn't it, that its "in EC and Kountze" if the "problem" is as pervasive as you imply... Wonder how that works...? Kountze and EC have been fortunate enough to have had the athletes to exploit the style that is now permitted. It is evident that the problem exist just about everywhere now. Warren does not have the athletes to play contact basketball. Fundamentals in defense and shooting used to be enough to be successful, those traits are now irrelevent, its who is bigger, quicker and more physical. You guys are defending your schools and I applaud that but your schools have had the advantage due to the mis-application of the rules. I don't blame the coaches and players but understand how frustrating it is to have coached, officiated and promoted the game for over 30 years and have it end up in its current state. I am not a hater of any team, but I am a hater of whats happened to my sport, and don't expect me to apologize or mince words for that. And if you haven't been around for more that 25 years I really don't expect you to understand.
22. What I am saying is the officials let thug ball or street ball go on. I don't blame the coaches or players for the style of basketball they can get away with. I blame the Chapter and ultimantely the UIL for the problem. My basketball interrest began in Kountze 34 years ago, I am not a kountze "hater" just hate what the game has evolved into. The officiating in Warren is just as bad as anywhere else, I just believe the inexperience, untrained, underpaid and intimidated refs are doing a dis-service to the game and I am just sick of it. And to threaten to run up the score on a group of young men because of the remarks of an old man proves my point. mccktown. After seeing what kountze did to Buna, I am sure if the score would be run up anyway if possible. Where's the class in that? And to quote Forest Gump, "that's all I'm going to say about that".
