Hardin-Jefferson 54 Houston Yates 102/FINAL

One thing that has been completely overlooked in this thread is the kudos to the players. Wherever they came from the kids can go. Congratulations to both Yates for advancing and to Hardin Jefferson for a very good season. . -
Top players returning next year

Amen -
I have watched the kid from Huffman for years and there’s 2 things I can almost guarantee, he won’t have many 4 point nights and his coach, who is one of the best in the area, will have something put in to get him some looks. Once again you speak of HF having the best players in the district next year. If this is true they aren’t on campus yet. I think HF makes the playoffs next year in the new district but I will probably pick them 3rd. I don’t see them beating HJ if all the players are healthy and They won’t sweep Huffman. That’s JMO
-
Their backcourt won’t be better than HJ’s unless there are some new pieces to the puzzle . They also won’t have the best player in the district unless he wasn’t on campus this year. I know the kid from Huffman had a rough game against HF but he is a very good player also.

Top players returning next year

A lot of folks around the basketball world would argue that the PG for HJ was the 2nd best player in 22-4A this year. #22 was as good as any one in that district at the post. He had 20 against Yates. Not bad for a role player. -
HJ will have a nice mix. Hard to say who their best player is or will be because it all depends on what type game they need to play. They have a very good returning post player, their PG is probably second only to Bush in the district this year and a lot of people think the kid that missed the HF game could be their best player. They are loaded at the sophomore and junior level . They will also be able to go 10 deep next year without a drop off. I like their chances.
-
They beat HJ at the buzzer in Hamshire when HJ did not have one of their best players. Bring on the “new editions “ the Hawks will show up and play. I don’t have HF’s roster in front of me but I’m willing to bet HJ was just as young or younger.

Hardin Jefferson and Huffman will have a lot to say about that. In my opinion HJ will be better next year . Lots of underclassmen on this years club . Throwing fuel builds rivalries, should be fun!

I was thinking of Ogle in my post. Aktar is a sophomore and I’m almost certain he played on the HJ Freshman team last year. How old does one have to be to become grown up? -

The key word in your statement is “ education “. The political powers in this country could care less about where someone wants to play basketball. -

Just one more observation concerning the “participation trophies” comment. I don’t know how many times you may have been in the HJ gym but they don’t hang participation trophies or banners for going to bi district or area or even regional quarter final game. The rafters are full at HJ but they are regional and state banners. This years team was young, they will get in the gym and they will most definitely be better. -

If memory serves me correct, and I’m pretty sure it does, the Aktar kid is a junior who sat out all of last year with an injury ( while going to school at HJ ). I think you’re looking for something that isn’t there. Like I said earlier I think the only player on the HJ squad that has ever went to high school in Beaumont is a junior and did not play play basketball anywhere last year. -

Regardless of how you rate the players at HJ this statement isn’t true. I don’t think there’s but one player on HJ’s current roster who has attended school in Beaumont and I don’t think he played basketball at all last year. The rest of the kids have been in the HJ program throughout their high school career. I do know there have been a few kids that have left HJ and transferred in to Beaumont. As far as the UIL giving HJ preferential treatment that’s a stretch. The director also has ties to BISD do you think think he favors them as well ? The kids that were on the floor for HJ last night came up through the Freshman and JV clubs at HJ. They are young and will be very good again next year. I commend them for a successful season. -

You will be hard pressed to find a group that spends more time in the gym than the kids at HJ. Last night was simply a contrast in numbers. The bigger the pool of players the better team you can put on the floor. The kids certainly have a right to play however if the schools have a choice of thousands of players they should compete in the highest classification. -

With the scoring record Yates is putting up their defense may be the best kept secret in SETexas. It will take a back court with size to beat this club. There were opportunities over the top to beat their press last night it was just a long way over the top 😂 -

Yes sir. This club may not top that one but they will have to be close. -

I think the political “choice of schools “ is directed at giving kids a better education. But hey I’m sure all the transfers to Yates had educational opportunities #1 on their list. -

I'm not sure an extended rest this time of year helps you much. HJ has a couple of kids that are nicked up that a little rest may help .The Hawks will need to show up and do what they do. This is a very good basketball team. Lace em up and tip it off.
