Gotta respectfully disagree OT30.When the Wildcats needed someone to steady the ship last year they pounded it inside to McKinney. The 2 guys they have playing the post this year will do a good job but neither is the player McKinney was.I was impressed with 2 of there guards in the first half at Spurger tonight #23 and #24.They played well,Coach Foster looked at lots of players in the second half and the Wildcats struggled a little.Overall it was a good workout and will help get BS ready for the season.

Did jarvis do good in the scrimage against kounze

Read my post Dawg.Jarvis did struggle from behind the arc and at the FT line. You won't see him go 3-13 many times from behind the arc when he's getting the looks he got Thursday. If he's stroking it like he usually does this one would have gotten ugly. PS-Roman just got alot better tonight when the football team closed there season. With the guards joining the Lions Saturday his game will go to a different level. -

I am a big Walker fan as well.I said repeatedly last year he was Kountzes best player and will be the best in 23aa this year.I don't have a dog in this fight but have seen both kids alot.I feel like both these kids are in the top 10 in the area and Roman will definitely hold his own day in and day out but Thursday Jarvis was the best player on the floor. -

Probably wouldn't be fair to evaluate Jarvis on this scrimmage.Everyone knows what he is capable of.Last night he was kind of out of his normal role knowing he had to carry the load.He struggled a little from the free throw line and his long ball was a little off early but that is to be expected early in the year.He is a shooter who can and will fill it up from outside.Last night he went to hoop when his outside shot wasn't falling which is what all good players do.He was no doubt the best player on the floor yesterday.Jarvis will be fine. -
WHO IS THE BEST BIG MAN IN THE STATE THIS YEAR.

Now thats a legit post.Thats probably a lot closer to the topic of this thread. -
Actually the final was 89-72 but it's really not that important what the final was in this one.The game was about what I expected with both teams missing lots of players.I may be wrong but I don't think either line up will resemble what I saw tonight once the season gets rolling. Both teams played hard which is what you expect from these two clubs.I was surprised at the lack of size on both clubs tonight both teams put a real small lineup on the floor.

A 2-3 matchup zone is an excellent defense and is anything but a lazy mans defense. When ran right it will have all the characteristics of a man.Gotta agree with HJ about disguising the looks to keep the offense from getting comfortable.Regardless of which defense you run,the folks that are the most agressive are the ones that are successful year in and year out.

Are you serious??? On the small schoolside the 2 that standout are Ross from Newton and Walker from Kountze. Not a lot of big guys in SeTexas this year. 1A only im not considering bigger schools or anywhere but SETX, he will stand out in 1A No disrepect intended to Whittacre,he is going to be a fine player.Just remeber he is pretty young and will take awhile for him to develope.Probably would be a stretch to call him a big man,he's probably about 6'1 or 6'2 and close to 175lbs.He may be the best post player in this district, not sure what any of the other clubs have in the paint. -
Lots of basketball to be played before anyone starts talking about going to the drum. Not only will folks have to have a tremendous club to get that far they also have to very lucky along the way.

Anyone have a breakdown on the Spurger/Brookeland/Jasper scrimmage on Tuesday? How did the clubs look, strengths, weaknesses etc? -
I was glad to see the youth football program kicked off in Warren.I hope it has the desired results.I have watched the other youth programs be pretty successful in Warren for years but it doesn't always translate to wins at the varsity level.Gotta agree with ya about the young guys on the line this year. They did their best but were just overmatched.Probably one of their best players this year we both forgot to mention was Stephen Derouen,he played with tremendous heart all year.

Weights are an important part of the off season program, but need to be monitored closely during the season.NEVER on game days or before shoot arounds. -
Not real sure when the wheels came off this year. The kids looked pretty good the first two ballgames but never got it together after the hurricane hit.The Warriors will have to find a way to get the numbers in the program up if they are gonna compete.Gotta tip my hat to Brandon Young,I saw the kids play 5 or 6 times this year and he left it on the field every night.

I think the final was: HJ-50 Huffman-30 I heard Huffman put together a run late to cut it to 20.Tha Lady Hawks big girl has been battling the flu but overall I heard they played well tonight. Not sure of the individual stats but I believe LaLa had 19 tonight. They travel to Baytown this weekend to play in what will be a very strong tournament opening with Kingwood on Thursday.

McKinney was the heart and soul of last years club, had he stayed healthy they would have had a legitamate shot at the title. His biggest contribution was his leadership ability, some of the younger guys will have to step up there but I don't think there is a big guy in BS that can fill his shoes in the paint.

I guarantee the Lady Pirates won this one, but could you tell us which Lady Pirate club looked the best ;D ;D ;D

I thought they already had. They have a ton of basketball potential if they would just give that program a shot ;) -
I will probably check out Spurger/Brookeland on Tuesday and will watch HJ/Ktz on Thursday. How about you?
-
Anyone have a time and place for this scrimmage? TopDawg I agree with ya about the Lions being the top dogs in 23-aa but when everyone gets all their players the nod goes to the 3-a clubs.Didn't get to see HJ any this summer but you can bet Todd will have the Hawks ready to roll.I got to see the Tigers and I don't see Kountze beating them.
-
They both play football but they will still have enough kids to make the scrimmage competetive.
-
So what your saying is that because its a scrimmage you can't get a idea of what kind of club your going to have.(nothing more/nothing less) :D That's not what I'm saying at all.It will certainly give you an idea of what kind of club you have but it will be a scrimmage and should be viewed as such. Each coach will look at some kids who may not have crucial roles when the real season starts. All I'm saying is the team that wins the scrimmage probably shouldn't start raising the banners yet ;D ;D ;D
-
I don't think WH hired a new coach until late in the summer but he definitely has a building block in Copeland,he is hands down the best player in the district. That being said I agree he has to have a little help and I think they know that in Saratoga.I don't know how heavy graduation hit HD but I know they have some athletic kids over there and Henry gets more out of less than just about anybody around.I don't see much seperation in the 5 clubs listed here.My only concern with Spurger will be youth and a brand new system.I hope the parents in Spurger give the young guy a fair shot,if they do he will have solid club over the next couple of years.Dang I'm ready to watch some hoops.
-
Not sure how many Anahuac has coming back but they had several young players last year.Their biggest challenge last year was keeping them all elgible. They have a very good coach down there now.The biggest loss for them was Rivon,he will be hard to replace. That being said they still get the 2 spot behind Kountze followed by EC in 3rd.
