That is good to hear. Both the Eagles and the Mustangs have problems finding opponents so when they can get together, it is a great game that makes both teams better in the long run.

I used to do that here. I'll gauge coaches temperature about doing that again.

The days of Rush Wood, Bob West and Tom Haliburton are gone forever. I found this out the hard way a couple of weeks ago when I was tipped off that my hometown newspaper, the Orange Leader, had copy and pasted portions of my 2017 team previews for their "analysis" of teams that the local teams were facing in their weekly game previews. I know the guy that did it and have since we were both in high school. Some have told me that I should be flattered that my work was deemed to be the quality to be included in a local newspaper. Yet, I couldn't help but feel disappointment. Not that my work had been used without my being consulted. Stattrax is right, much of the effort of this site does appear in other print media and the only one who ever asked me for that was Gabe. It is just that media had sunken to that point that they didn't even bother with their own effort. It kind of put into more perspective an email that a parent of a local player had shared with me. This email, from the editor of a local paper, told me all that I needed to know about the priorities of this local paper with regards to local sports. Basically, the insight that many of us yearn will only appear in this paper if it purports to reflect the seedier side of sports. I once thought that this was just David Thompson's style, and it very well may have been. But from this email that was shared to me, it is quite apparent that the orders for such "journalism" come from upstairs. I got to give it to Danny (yes, the email was from his boss), the effort he has made in spite of the culture of this particular paper is pretty admirable. Some might not think enough, but I think it is better than others. It is quite sad that we have come to that point. But then again, I guess it is good that folks like us and Ashly are still around.

Updated Rankings: Top 10 teams in SETX high school football
WOSgrad replied to DannyShapiroBE's topic in High School Football
I don't know that anyone can argue that neither West Brook nor Newton present a reasonable argument for being No, 1 in this poll. In fact, in our own poll, I am one of the six that placed Newton ahead of West Orange-Stark. That being said, the Mustangs have also built quite a case for their being at the top of this ranking. They are currently embarking on an undefeated season, have added to a state best 31 game winning streak and come off of a win against a team ranked #6 in their classification. As impressive as the Bruins and Eagles have been, they do not have that full portfolio in their favor. Could Newton? I have no doubt. Could West Brook? I think so but I guess you'll have to see me in about 5 hours to see if I was right. -
There is one 4A team that is ready to give it a go.
