Given the academics that HJISD could provide his family, they could find candidates for a football coach. However, a non-football AD would probably limit the pool. Generally applying head coaches look toward getting the stipend to build toward the salary that they desire. You are also placed in the area of administrator, wherein class obligations are lightened. And the optics of that could potentially hinder the football coach search specifically at H-J. Whether it is actually the case or not, HJ has the reputation of having its athletic program heavily slanted toward basketball. Naming the basketball coach the AD might play right into that reputation in some candidates minds.

The fight for the top of 22-4A comes down to 3 Orange County teams and one game which will effect the district title will be played right here as the Orangefield Bobcats take on the Bridge City Cardinals! Friday, the Cardinals kept the lead in 22-4A at 8-1 with a 1-0 win over the Bobcats on Friday in Orangefield which dropped the Bobcats to 6-3 in district play. Either a Cardinal win or a Little Cypress-Mauriceville loss to Hamshire-Fannett will secure the district title and the #1 seed out of 22-4A. Looking at the Cardinals and what is at stake tonight, I also wondered if Coach Landry had second thoughts about scheduling this game. But I am quite sure he managed the game so as to accomplish what he wanted to while not jeopardizing the district title.

Both teams had something to gain. For Coach Hooker, aside from the Evadale game, his guys haven't really been tested since district started and this game gives him the opportunity to do that. Both coaches, it allows guys who might have not gotten a lot of time on the mound in district to get that time as they will probably be needed when the playoffs come around due to the pitch count and the potential of 3 games in 2 days and they get that time against some quality hitters.

For just AD or AD/HFC?

I don't think Coach Johnston is worried about the loss in the 10th game as much as those larger schools are worried about a loss to a pretty small sized school. Particularly the Louisiana schools that you mentioned are subject to those calculated power rankings which the size of the school is taken into account. Even if they would blow Newton out, their rankings would be hurt. On another note, as the LHSAA doesn't align in the same years as the UIL, putting a Louisiana school on the schedule is a dicey bet as that is only a 1 year solution.
