  1. Truthfully I think that most of these are seriously overpaid - mainly due to the reason that I have a hard time understanding why anyone (and I mean anyone is worth 3 - 5 million a year to coach a sport.  But this is Big Time football which is now a business and not a sport.   But lets talk local coaches - I do not think that Sumlin of Texas A&M or Strong of Texas either have earned the amount that they are being paid - both are still work in progress.
  2. You are right - but this year in order to lay your hands on the crystal ball you have to be one of the 4 teams that the POSC (Play Off Selection Committee) selects.  Still think this is a bad idea - there are always more than 4 teams that have at least some legitimate argument to be considered the best team in the land.
  3. You may well be right - throughout its history Texas football has only short serious downturns.   But we will have to see - I have stated and believe that Texas for most of its history was one of the "real" Big Dogs in college football and in that I mean with reputation, facilities and well almost everything.  But the world is changing and while Texas still has retained some to the reputation they have lost their lead and lost serious ground with facilities and other benefits that they controlled through out that history.  It is yet to be determined if Texas can regain the year in and  year out supremacy that it once had - I think it will become harder (and almost impossible) for Texas and any school to be the "Bog Dog" year in and year out in the future.     Case and point lets see how much longer Alabama can be to Dog - if anyone in today's structure can Alabama can.
  4. I have made the statement that the 4 game playoff structure will NOT solve the end of season disputes that erupt every year and this year will be no different. Now Randy Moss on Fox Sports has made the case that Marshall (his Alma Mater) should be included in the 4 team field due to their undefeated season. Now I do not believe that they are deserving of any consideration due to the games they have played and the level of competition they have in there conference. Thoughts?
  5. Talking about the SEC and not the Aggie's - This thread at the start did not mention the Aggie's at all but as usual you try and make it about them.   And sorry but the ONLY poll that makes any difference at this time is  the Play Off Selection Committee Poll and that one has Alabama No, 1 and FSU No. 3 - with another of those weak SEC team No, 4.
  6. While I agree - I also think that he has bought himself another year or two with the recruiting class he just signed - do not think they would fire him and take a chance of losing the 4 highest rated recruits they have had in years.
  7. I Know I Know a typical Aggie and can't finish a complete sentence    It could be true but using Brown as your only source is questionable at best and outright wrong at worst.  Is it true - as an Aggie I doubt it and hope it is not true - and do I think the SEC and Texas A&M is running scared of the Texas Longhorns - No I do not.
  8. Last 30 Years (my adult lifetime):   15 - 15    Its gotten harder in the last 3 decades  ;)
  9. Again a article written by a TEXAS sports beat writer stating that the SEC (Bad Guys) are scared of Texas (Good Guys) - I have searched the net and found no other references to this statement that the "SEC will not let the Aggie's play Texas" - There is NO WAY that this article is Biased for Texas and against the SEC and Aggie's is there    The story on FOX Sports was just commenting on what the Texas Sports beat writer stated and as always most (not all) Texas fans and Aggie haters are taking this article by a TEXAS SPORTS BEAT writer as fact - when this guy has been proven wrong more time than he has right.   It could be true but using Brown as your only source is questionable at best and outright wrong at worst.  Is it true - as an Aggie I doubt it and hope it is not true - and do I think the SEC and Texas A&M is running scared of the Texas Long
  10. I do agree that Allen has improved and looks to be a good QB for a while to come - But his main issue is the pressure that the O Line is allowing at this time as in many instances he has not time to go through his progressions and scrambling does not appear to be a trait that he has at this time.  The Murray issue is in my opinion a good one for Aggie's - the more talent at a position the more likelihood for success - hope he becomes an Aggie as I loved watching his dad play.
  11. At this time I really cannot argue that Texas might be the favorite - Texas defense likely makes the difference.  Allen and the offense has had times were he has looked real good - but at others has looked real bad.  However, the A&M defense has looked weak most of the season.
  12. DO You think that a loss to A&M would help Texas (Strong's) cause?  No - Texas would have a HUGE State wide setback if they lost to A&M - Strong does not need a loss to A&M in his first year.     At this time either team (1) would benefit greatly from a win and (2) be equally adversely affected by a loss.
  13. So now if it does not happen it is ONLY because A&M and the SEC are scared of Texas  - and this information comes from a Texas source and of course that is NEVER anti-A&M
  14. No doubt that this would be a big game for both teams - if for nothing else State bragging rights until they happen to meet again.
  15. From what I have heard from up North is that the "honeymoon" is quickly washing away for Kliff Kingsbury and that if he has another season like this one next year he will be squarely on the hotseat.
  16. Don't know I think the 23rd ranked Horns might put up a fight  ;)
  17. I'm gonna die young from a heart attack due to this defense - even when they are looking better they still suk.
  18. Texas looking good - grats to the Horns.
  19. To try and reclaim this season A&M needs to win this game - I hope the GOOD A&M team shows up.
  20. Texas finally wins a game against and overrated WVU (who have they beaten?) and now they are progressing - but Texas fans seem to have a short memory - did not they lose 23 - 0 to a good team (not overrated)?   I have always stated that Strong was a good hire - but Texas has not been even close to the team that most predicted pre-season - Strong still has a long way to go to get Texas back into the NC chatter.
  21. GCMPATs2 - Texas players shop their talents = afraid of competition  ;)   Texas A&M recruits shopping talent = jumping ship   Seems a little one sided to me.
  22. I have heard the square one talk before - and as always find that hard to believe with the (1) History that Texas football has always had, and (2) the shear number of top recruits that Texas had recruited during Mack Brown's last 4 years.    In my opinion Coach Strong - with the recruits that Texas had on the roster - he started ahead of what most coaches do when they take over a "rebuilding" of a program.  Mack Brown had a top recruiting class every year before he was let go.
  23. During the game Sumlin stated that the decision had already been made - It appears it is Allen's job to lose.
  24. I love the Texas progress talk - last year will likely have a better record and was 1 game out of the championship game - and this year is progress?   Did A&M take a step back - likely - but with the shear number of Freshman and other returning players next year looks to be better than this years team.   But both of us will have to wait to find out.
