  1. Good win for Woodville.  They wont beat CH though. It will take their best game and CH worst.  Coach Bartlett does a good job with Huntington.  They play very hard.  I just can not stand all of their turnovers.  That may be their achilles heel.  I saw a game where they played a very average team and had 27 turnovers.  And I am a supporter of them. For Huntington to ever turn it around it will take beginning at the lowest level (foundation) and working up.  Having a finger in all of it.  They do that Huntington will be in the Playoffs year after year and will not jsut be talking about them playing hard.  I hope they can turn it around, they are working hard at it and have tradition, it is just so far back since they won big, few remember it. Anyway, CH beat Huntignton 2wice, both at Huntington by 15 and it could have been much worse if they would have shot the ball like they are capable.  It looks like CH found its rythym in the Pleasant Grove Tourny.  I say CH, Woodville for 1st and 2nd.  Woden, SA, Newton, Corrigan Camden for the last spot.  I would toss that spot up to Woden or SA who are in the front as of now. IMHO
  2. I see mostly people on here supporting HJ.  I do.  They do things the correct way in my opinion and although I have no affiliation with them I will give them credit.  I love to see basketball programs doing things the right way and being rewarded.  Most of the people that bash HJ are out of jealousy.  There will always be that kind, most people by nature do not like to see people succeed.  It is a shame, escpecially if you are doing things right.  Congreat to HJ on there win and Silsbee in their tournament. Concerning Cayuga, I must have been inccorect, I thought they had lost to some inferior opponents.
  3. Should be off the team for this year,  you cant have a positive program and direction with that nonsense going on.
  4. Congrats Silsbee.  Big time win.  I thought Yates was 4A #1.  Galveston Ball is one.
  5. Nice win HJ.  Keep on keeping on.  It has to be a little bitter sweet though, knowing that the top two teams really split.  They should have played a rubber match at the end.  There is always an upside to things and a downside, good thing with pool play is you get alot of games, bad situation is you could lose to someone in pool like this and then play them in the championship.  With only beating each other once.  But, HJ won when it mattered.   Anyway great win, how many of yalls tournaments have yall won in the last 10 years?  All of them?
  6. CH 46 vs. Sabine 17 Will play Lindan Kildare or Trinity Christian for the Championship
  7. I heard, you know how that goes, that Cayuga has already been beat by a lower ranked 1A in their Region.  And I am pretty sure they are in their with Clarksville. Unless I am getting the Divisions wrong.  I know they have been beat this year by some good teams and have lost to some average.  They do have a big lineup.
  8. SA is good, IMO not as good as in the years past but they are still good.  CH wins distrcit, slight edge to Woodville for 2nd.  Woden and SA and Newton and Corrigan Camden for the 3rd spot. Should be a good district. Looking forward to watching some games.  SA will be hard to beat at SA always are.  Newton and Corrigan although just coming out of the playoffs have the ability to beat anyone.  Each game is going to count in this district.  Better come prepared every night.
  9. And they will drop back into a 1/3/1.  If you do not know what to do against it your in trouble,  1/3/1 can be a very effective zone especially if you trap occassionally out of it.
  10. Reevaluate my opinions on this district. Ch is the clear favorite. Woodville, Woden, SA, Newton, Corrigan Camdem will fight it out in that order of probability.  IMO This district has alot of parity this year.
  11. Good win for Woodville.  Central is getting better and are very young.  If they keep getting better they have an outside shot at getting the last playoff spot.  I havent seen Center, they are picked to win it all.  Jasper has a quality squad.  Huntington plays hard but a little out of control. Hudson, havent seen them but they have beat a couple of good teams and been in most all games. Central and Diboll can not be overlooked at home as well.  To me the 18-3AAA is the weakest I have seen it in a while.  Great chance for someone to sneak in.
  12. Woodville is alot bigger than I thought and have more than Sells.  But they are still not nearly as big or skilled as CH.  Dont get me wrong, great win and Woodville should make the playoffs, but it is not good that they have to play Woden 3 times.  It is hard to beat someone 3 times in a season.  Woden will get them once in district IMO.  CH is still the clear favorite and Woodville, Woden, SA, Newton, and Corrigan will fight for the last 3. I will go out and say CH, Woodville, Woden in district. SA gets forth this year.  And newton cant be overlooked.  They only lost to Woodville by 5 someone said.  They was up 12-15 at one point.  From the looks of Newton they are going to get better.  If they will get in the gym and practice they have a legite shot at a playoff spot. And everyone knows it is hard to win at SA.
  13. Basketball is about matchups.  You cant compare scores in the paper or game to game situations.  You can get a little info this way but not as much as you would think.
  14. Updates on the Tournament: Winners Bracket:  Central over Diboll (Not sure the score), Woodville 41 vs. Woden 35, Huntington beat Trinity by 30,  Corrigan beat Shelbyville badly (not sure of the final). Losers bracket:  Onalaska 50 vs. Broaddus46  (Best play from Broaddus is out for 4-6-8 weeks. Docs not sure how long.)  Lovelady over Brookland handily.  Zavalla plays Kennard at 2:40  Should be a good game.  The Woodville and Woden game suprosed me.  I thought Woden would win.  I think it will hurt Wville in the long run that they have to play each other 2 more times.  Hard to beat a team that is very close to you 3 times in the same year.  I say they will split in district.  I dont know how SA, Newton, Corrigan Camdem, Woden, and Woodville will come out on the last 2 spots.  It is up for grabs.  Their is alot of parity in this district except for CH.
  15. AggiesAREWe,  looks like I just misunderstood.  I thought it was players and fans from Silsbee complaining about the haircut.  No biggy.  Good luck this year.
  16. Thought this was East Texas.  Where does it start and end, the "true" East Texas.
  17. That suprises me, when I left it looked like Woodville was going to run away with it.  Both are big and athletic, but Woodville is a little better.  Sells can play.  It looked like to me that when their Flex offense broke down they gave it to him and just let him create. Newton must have made a run at them.  That being said, Newton looks like a team that is going to improve.  They do not look like they played well together or have any cohesion. If they find some cohesion they will be much better.  #4 from Newton (6 foot 3 ish can dunk any way he wants).
  18. Woodville is better than I thought.  They are a pretty big team.  Played organized at times and at times didnt.  The flex cut they were getting time and time again will not work against a good defenive team.  I notice they go to a 1-4 low set and let the Sells #5 player create off the dribble.  He is a good player and Newton paid special attention to him.  I wouldnt say a box and one, but they were faceguarding him the entire time trying to not allow him to catch.  It will be very curious to see how they come out against Woden.  Will be a totally different game.  Woodville will have to score from out or get turnovers on the press.  If Woden makes it a halfcourt game they will win.  But, Woodville definelty has the size advantage.  The only team they will not have the size advantage over is CH.  Woddville has more than the Sells kid as someone previously asked.  They have 2-3 6'3" to 6'4" posts and a couple of guys who can shoot the 3 ball or at least they hit a few tonight and they had good shooting form.
  19. CH 72  Pleasant Grove 39.  Understand CH had 50 at the half and could have scored more than the final but did not push the issue. CH 55  Hughes Springs 22
  20. You never know who you are talking to on an anonymous thread.  I dont know if it is players or coaches.  I do know there are alot of coaches on here trying to hide behind a false name.  But that was not my point.  I was just trying to help the people from Silsbee realize that you dont see HJ on here with a thread about haircuts.  They are discussing winning and losing and getting better. I am sorry if I said something someone did not want to hear, jsut trying to make a point that the entire town should come together and not fight each other over haircuts and get down to making another run at state.  I felt like I was on your side in this argument.  If you want to keep argueing about hair that fine.  Just trying to make a point that might help.  I know that it has been a policy for years, I read the article, that was not my point.  My point was that everyone in town should get behind there Tigers and program and quit bickering about a dang haircut.
  21. Updates:  Broaddus best kid is out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot.  Could have lead to the lopsided score from earlier.  I dont know, wasnt there, think they would have had their hands full anyway.  New Updates:  Huntington 50  Lovelady 38, Central 56 vs. Brookland 23, Woodville should beat Newton.  Was winning by 15 with 5 left in the 3rd.  Games tomorrow:  8:00 Diboll at Central Old Gym, 9:20 Woodville vs. Woden OG, Huntington vs. Trinity OG @10:40  (Winners Bracket) Losers Bracket will post later.  Huntington or Trinity will play the winner of shelbyville and Corrigan Camdem at 5:20 tomorrow afternoon. Hope this helps.
  22. When I left, Woodville was up 15 with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd.  Still alot of ball to be played. Newton is athletic but very unorganized.  They could be so much more than what they are. Their number 4 kid is an athlete. Woodville  has more bigs and height than I thought.  That looked out of control at times.
