1. I dont disagree with getting rid of the kids that dont have respect, dont come to practice, get in trouble etc...I think he is handling those correctly by having a strict discipline program with basically 3 strikes you are out. Whats crazy is why did it take until now to enforce it? Minyard let the kids run over him with the inmates running the asylum. I do give props to the new guy as he doesnt put up with much BS which should be the case. As for practice, there are a lot of eyes out there and pretty much everyone is seeing and saying the same thing. At the freshman level the parents not happy which bodes trouble for the future of the program. If you lose these kids, and these are a GOOD group of kids on and off the field, then I dont see how this program will ever get going. Most of these kids are very respectful and many are AP students which should be a coaches dream...but if the kids arent having fun or dont believe A)they quit and focus on basketball, baseball, track etc B)They quit and turn into thugs, C) They move to another school, that is what I am worried about. I get the impression that the coach cringes every time Gibson makes a play on a pass because it just feeds the parents and kids into wanting to do it more. Ive watched his reaction and you can tell its like raking your nails on a chalkboard for him. Kind of like the rest of us watching fumble after fumble and  1 yard runs into a stacked 10 in the box defense.
Unless we know what happens M-Thurs, I say we leave the game decisions to the coaches. I like what I see off the field. Right now that is more important to me than W's.
2. Could be but atleast it would be local district full of rivalry. Sterling has no business playing North Shore, West Brook or La Porte anymore. Here is some numbers to ponder as posted in the Baytown sun. They were outscored 85-41 going into the oak ridge game. They lost to oak ridge 48-7 so now that stands at 133 -48. Total deficit now stands at 85 points  :o Oak Ridge had given up 147 points in three games good for 49 a game yet RSS managed only a hail mary to Gibson to sore  :o The Baytown sun reporter took at jab at the coach with this statement. " Gibson may be Sterlings best offensive weapon, but he rarely touches the ball"  The coach then said that the rangers win with defense and they cant worry about jamars stats. How about we just focus on winning period whether its offense ,defense or like that team in arkansas that did an onside kick everytime they could. I'm open to anything at this point lol. If the Rangers dont beat Pasadena this week it will be an O-FER season.
One more course for Dayton, BH, and Crosby to dine on. GGISD just don't care anymore. Plain and simple. I'm guessing there is no open enrollment @ GCCISD. THEY SHOULD CONSIDER THAT OPTION.
3. Ding ding ding we have a winner. Again why I blame GCCISD. It makes perfect since and creates rivalries with all the schools. Those 3 with BH, Dayton, and Crosby would be fun. On top of it making sense from a football perspective, like you said it saves money and time. That is a rough trip for all sports to travel to beaumont and port arthur. Talk about late nights for baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball etc. If GCCISD cant afford to bus kids that live 2 miles away from their campus to SCHOOL, we sure as hell shouldnt be bussing 60 miles away for sports.
The 4a concept  was presented to the school board. It's an easy  fix that would send kids that live in close proximity back to REL. The suggestion was shot down. For some reason  they want to have a 5a school in GCCISD. Next year would be a perfect time with the expected departure of North Forest. It  would also cut travel expenses for our district by getting  out of Beaumont. It might also bring some interest back to football in Baytown. The biggest problem is that it makes too much sense.
4. Of course it doesnt, but it shows the talent is there. It just needs to be coached up. CBJ lost one game in the past two years and that was to Dayton. Gentry lost 3 games with two being to CBJ and one to Dayton. The difference now is the studs from CBJ are now going to school with the studs at Gentry where as Dayton has the same players. This same group scored zero points last 9a game and scored 6 the week before. Of course they scored 41 against lee but CBJ could beat Lee. None of the players at Gentry that made that team went to GCM which is really amazing considering the split high schools they feed into. CBJ is a feeder to RSS so all those kids are there.
I know for a FACT that winning games at Gentry does not translate into wins at high school. My  sons team was loaded at Gentry (lost 1 game in 2 years). They graduated last year with nothing to show for it.
5. I dont know about sissy ball but thats what is frustrating about this system. We finally have good talent in the freshman ranks that is being wasted in this system.  These kids could put something together but Im afraid this system handicapps them so much they wont be able to do it. Zero points for the 9a team thursday, the same kids that thrashed everyone for the past two years outside of dayton who just had a much better system at the jr high level.  These kids beat both north shore jr highs so you cant tell me the talent isnt there.
Y'all talk as if Baytown was some bastion of good football.  Lee played Sissy Ball under Olin and despite having 5 QBs in a row, could barely make it to the 2nd round.  I work with a guy who was @Sterling the last time they were descent which was around '87 so either close Lee/Memorial and go back to 2 schools or move some kids from Sterling to Lee so all 3 schools can play 4A ball....
6. The Qb has been moved to defense. They are running two sophs out there right now. Gibson has verbaled to atm but chance nelson supposedly has left school this week so they are worried he will not go now. As for having all three schools 4a, I agree 100%. There is no reason why sterling should be a 5a school. Rezone so they are all 4a and in the same district.
Clear Lake still looked pretty stout on offense last year. Much better execution than this Sterling team obviously.  I understand the frustration with the coaching, but you have to give the guy a couple of years to get the system in place.  You don't just start implementing this offense and look like a well-oiled machine the first year. Think back to Olin's 0-10 year.  Lee looked bad. It's obvious Sterling does not have the guys to run the offense right now. The qb is good, though he has no idea how to run the offense.  Outside of that Franklin is more of a slot receiver type, then you have the punter playing fullback.  And not a fullback that happens to be able to punt.  This is a punter that just go stuck back at fullback near as I can tell. If they can find a qb smart enough to run the offense, then just give it to next year at the very least.
7. do you think mack brown wanted to go 5-7 last year? Fact is some coaches are too stubborn to admit their mistakes, brown finally woke up and got rid of his offensive coordinator. This year in 1.5 games the new guys figured out gilbert isnt the guy and put up 49 points today with a ton of freshman. Sometimes coaches refuse to admit they are wrong.
Why don't these kids (and  their parents) stop questioning the schemes and just  do their jobs. I've been aound HS football and coaches for a long time. I have yet to meet a coach  that did not want to be successful. I say we give Coach Adudel at least a year  to  get his program in place before we pass judgement. What most of the players at RSS lack is  discipline. My biggest disappointment from last night was  that Gibson was even allowed to remain in the game after throwing a punch in the 1st quarter. Other than that, I'm willing to see what year 2 brings.
8. Pats I guess its because it goes on year after year and year and nothing ever changes. No team ever turns the corner and starts winning. When is the last time we had a legit playoff team? When tate was here? Making it as the 4th team out of 6 team district is just charity and most of those teams dont even deserve the extra game. I thought Aduddel would atleast bring discipline and I think to a certain extent he has, it has much more than they had under minyard. But you risk the chance that if your true stars screw up of not having any studs so if you are going to talk the talk they should have sat gibson. I missed the play but saw the penalty was on oak ridge so I didnt see the punch and wonder if he did throw a punch why was the penalty on the other team?
 9.
So much for that high scoring spread offense Lee runs. So exciting!
Yes because Lee is very [s]disciplined[/s] in their offense lol, give me a break. Lee man run a "spread" but if its anything more than just running around trying to make something happened I sure havent seen it. I wonder if they actually watch film and have any scheme before the game? Lee has athletes and should be winning more games, especially at the 4a level. GCM is by far the one school I havent watched much of, but again I know they have athletes but every week I hear the same story about beating themselves with missed assignments, poor tackling, penalties, etc etc...Good programs and good coaches correct those things but yet here we are in what year 4 or 5 still dealing with the same issues? Where is the improvement?  I would venture to say GCM has better skill athletes than BH so where are the results? At Sterling, you hired a guy that had one great year at CL running the option. He also had a stud QB that knew the option inside and out. I would venture to say CL's offensive line has 50 pounds on average more than Sterling does so they are able to move and control the line of scrimmage. Have you seen Sterlings line? The defense just  muggs the line of scrimmage because there is virtually no threat of throwing the ball and its almost like running into a wall over and over and over. Its suppose to control the clock but what is happening is the Offense goes three and out most of the time or fumbles which is wearing the defense out. The last two games have been 6-0 at half and 6-0 after end of 1.  Although the D isnt great it just cant keep bailing out the offense. Im telling you the younger kids ar getting frustrated with it. The freshman group that only lost a couple of games their jr high careers have now lost 2 in a row with last game scoring zero points on offense. They are starting to question the schemes when teams like oak ridge running the spread scored at will. Hopefully they stick with it or dont transfer but I would not be shocked to see some mass exodus from the program, and if that happens its spells doom as the future is with these 9th graders.
 10. All the Baytown schools are terrible and I blame GCCISD for their hires. All three coaches are in way over their heads. Score when I left 48-7. Option offense again terrible, only score was a fly ball thrown short to gibson who came back to get it and then juked a defender to score as the half ran out. So much for controlling the clock and having a good defense, good grief.
 11. wait terry ran the option? ....they just shut down sterling two weeks ago running it lol
 12. Move to baytown and you can choose between sterling or barbers hill to run the option lol
 13. Yep that one play to gibson accounted for more yards than 50 rushes lol
 14. If RSS doesnt beat CV they will go winless this year. All the excitement to start the season is gone and is hard to see anything good happening the rest of the way. If you only run for 50 yards against south houston then you might have a problem, a big one.
 15. Embarrassing. Did I see that right? More passing yds than rushing yards with 50 plus rushing attempts
 16. Baytown Sterling freshman A 20 - South Houston 12 Baytown Sterling freshman B 22 - South Houston 0 Baytown Sterling JV A 8 - South Houston 6
 17. Well that goes along with my point, there are not many looking for option style qbs  so if one was missed they missed on one of 3 schools looking for them vs hundrends running the more modern offenses.  Not only that, has it been successful anywhere?  CL with oswold got to the semi finals one year and then the next year I think went 0 fer.  Has any modern team running the option won a state title in the 4a or 5a ranks?
 18. Are you saying at CL he didnt have a big line because he still ran the option. I would venture to say that CL probably has a massive line most years with the numbers they have, or had before the new schools popped up. To run the Mike Leach offense you dont need a big line, you just need playmakers in open space and a QB that is smart who gets them the ball quickly. None of the schools you listed LP only throw the ball 3-4 times a game so although there may be some option principles its not even in the same universe as the flexbone. Extreme apples to oranges. Panama what if Clint Stoerner was a freshman at RSS right now? Would he have gotten to where he was at running the option? He was also a good WR which in this offense would not have been showcased. Who knows maybe he hangs up the cleates and focuses only on baseball instead? Chad Irwin and Robert Ellis would have been wastes at TE.  I am telling you there were kids at Sterling when these guys were coming through had they been at Lee could have done some of the same things those guys did, the difference was the program at RSS did not utilize the talent that was there. I would have loved to have seen olin over at RSS during that time.  As for now, on the freshman level all of these guys have been running the spread for a while, there are guys who can throw the ball to get it into the hands of the playmakers. As for size, I would venture to say the freshman are as big as the varsity although they still have a lot of room to grow. LP I am not talking NFL, I am talking college scholarship as the next level. All of the guys you listed were studs in college playing on a full ride I am sure.  I would have to question if some of those guys were in the option offense if they would have been given the opportunity to play in college much less the nfl. I'm saying these guys now have limited opportunities to show big colleges their skill sets running this flexbone offense and any coaches job should be providing opportunity to the kids and this offense does not do that. The kid at BH is a stud running the flexbone but I bet he has zero big time colleges knocking on his door for football, he will end up playing college baseball I'm sure even though he has the arm and the smarts to run a pro style or spread offense. Like I said, I like the guy as a coach. I just hope he is not stubborn enough to keep trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. He has ran the spread before and just like the guy at GCM, they adjusted to what fits better. Sterlings D is going to give up points and with a option offense its virtually impossible to come back when down by more than 7 points. I agree that GCCISD knew what they were getting when they made the hire which is why I was not happy when I heard about it. It really makes no sense. You also have to wonder why a guy would leave CL when his son is still an active player there. He is either a JR or SR there now and as a Dad I just couldnt see leaving to be away from that experience, something doesnt add up. Either he was about to be ran out of dodge in CL anyway, or he got word from Minyard, Manley and the rest of the old coaches on the GCCISD payroll that if you just put in a few years on the gridiron you can be reassigned into the coaches dream job of doing nothing (scheduling bus routes is it?) making 75K a year while coasting into retirement.
The lack of size on the OL is what justifies  the move away from the spread. You cannot  ask these smaller guys to pass block. At least in the  option/wishbone a lineman justs needs to scrape  block for  the most part and  not be expected to maintain his block for too long. It was  Sterlings first "live" performance in a game environment.  Not the outcome  we wanted, but hopefully they will make the necessary adjustments.
19. Well in regards to Katy, do you think Andy Dalton would have gotten a ride to TCU or be the starting QB for the Bengals right now if he had been in an option offense? I sure as heck dont. The option is a gimmick offense where like you said guys like oswold can have a starring role because he is smart but really has no shot at moving on as QB. His best shot most likely would have been as a slot receiver in a wide open offense so even though he had a good career in HS it hurt him in the long run. Actually I heard the passing QB that CL had moved to Friendswood and actually got a ride somewhere to play football. Had he stayed at CL that never would have happened. Katy also has some beef up front, something RSS has never had. More reason to spread them out and get into the hands of your playmakers. I think Aduddel got a wake up call last night and that maybe he can not win with these kids in that offense. McWhirter can throw, actually he looked pretty good last year before he got booted off the team throwing the ball. Rss would have been much better with him throwing to Chance and Gibson with Mixon coming out of the backfield.  Again Minyard was terrible, bout on par with the Lee coach. GCCISD has made horrible coaching hires outside of Olin, they havent gotten it right yet. As far as Mike Vick, Chance Nelson had some Vick like moves and he really wasnt that high of a recruit. He got pretty lucky the aggies lost someone at the last minute and he was able to catch on, before that he was looking at the much smaller schools.
 20. The offense may be a "coaches" offense but thats not what gets kids opportunities at the next level unless you are a GT fan or Air Force fan. Even Oswold who was a stud at CL didnt get much of an opportunity because no one is going to recruit an option QB, its a waste. We have a stud aggies recruit at WR and we stick him at safety where I saw him make one tackle? Last years offense was terrible because Minyard was terrible. I am telling you, the JR high kids in the 9th grade have a lot of skill, they would fit perfect into a spread offense. With Sterlings defense apparently always going to suck, you have to have an offense that can put up points. This almost reminds me of when UH went from the run and shoot to Kim Heltons 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. It killed UH because they didnt have the personnel to run down peoples throats and it killed the fans because it was boring as heck to watch. Again I really like the coach as a guy and as a motivator but he needs to wake  up and realize this isnt 1975. McWhirter is going to get killed before this season is over and the backup QB cant throw it 15 yards. Its going to get real ugly real quick.  There are atleast  3 kids on the freshman A team that should be moved up right now .
 21. Lee has some players on offense and has a pretty big line. Richardson didnt do much because it seemed to me they had others that could pull the weight. Sterling, I just dont get the offense. Why run a offense that gives the kids zero chance to move to the next level and quite frankly, is boring as all heck to watch. I dont get it, and the coach will soon find out that with no defense you cant win with that offense. They will get behind and be unable to catch up. I like the head coach but man he needs to see the skill players he has coming up and make a change offensively. I suspect some of the freshman will be moved up fairly quickly, I mean why wait, might as well get them some experience.
 22. The curse of the option ...Sterling down 28-14 5 min left...its over
 23. Well the sub varsity teams scored zero points against RSS. Maybe Lee was saving all their points for tonight?
 24. That has to be the smallest margin of victory for Daytons freshman bunch in a while. Is the little Mcbride still the QB?
