I agree with Abe on this one. I tire of this back and forth conversation with no apparent end. As i posted previously opinions are opinions...everyone has one... i wont change yours...and you wont change mine. 5 on 5 signing off.
I also agree.
 2.
The only one on here with any sack is mosely.  Everyone else needs to post their real name and make it very interesting.
Good post Mr. Fly....now we all know your real name    ;D
 3. As others have posted I agree that Coach English can teach and mold this assistant. But how long will this take...and how much time will it take him away from the varsity while he has to constantly be molding the assistant. I think the point is wouldn't it be much easier to mold an assistant if they at least were knowledgeable about the sport. It is wonderful that coaches are also classroom teachers. I get it. But would you put this science teacher in a classroom teaching math??....Then simply put why would you put him in a coaching position he knows nothing about??
 4. Enlighten me, cause truly I do not understand. A previous poster said Neumann had to hire this coach while fitting it all together like a puzzle. Why should Neumann have to worry whether this assistant coach teaches math, science, or any other subject. Did neuman hire this guy as a science teacher?....or was he told by administration that he could hire anyone he wanted BUT they also had to be a science teacher?
 5.
I am as big of a Nederland basketball fan as anyone but I don't feel Neumann is a bad AD. Nederland is successful in 90% of the sports played at the school. Not just football. Neumann is the one brought in all of those coaches. Should he have brought in a coach with BB experience? Of course. But I don't think one bad move should have got him stripped of his AD duties. He went out and got Coach E from Vidor and paid him. He has brought Nederland a long long way in his 18 years. Quite sure almost every sport has improved. Also I don't think AD/Head Coach should be separated. There is not enough money in school budgets as it is and especially not to pay an extra position. However, I strongly feel AD shouldn't have to be the football coach. Some of these coaches are not remotely qualified to do both jobs. There are several coaches that don't coach football that I feel would do a better job but they were coaching the wrong sport and never got a chance.
Wow.....Neumann did not bring in Coach English first of all. Don't fool yourself by thinking he did that willingly. And you state "one bad move". Again don't fool yourself. Neumann has had MULTIPLE opportunities to hire a qualified assistant basketball coach....MULTIPLE....and each time has proven his lack of willingness to do the right thing. By the way did I say MULTIPLE opportunities. It is not one bad move, it is a pattern that will continue as long as we allow it!!
 6.
Neumann is clearly envious of the success and attention of the basketball program.  The sad thing is that the kids are the one's who will suffer most from this. Do you think he would hire a defensive line coach to coach his QBs? I think not. He has an ex-QB at that position who is also the OC. You are right, he may be a good football coach, but he is NOT a good AD. A good AD is one who helps each kid thrive in every sport, not just football! The problem in Nederland is that Everyone is afraid of Neumann, including administrators. They were not innocent in this hire. They sat by and watched this take place and allowed Neumann to continue his dictatorship!! We all need to bring this atrocity to our school board. If we don't, then nothing will EVER change!!
Amen. EVERYONE of us who this affects now and in the future need to voice our opinions to the school board on a regular basis starting now.
 7.
lol man you are acting like nederland has been to the state tourney the last couple of years, nederland isn't a powerhouse basketball program!!!! just the truth, a powerhouse basketball program is silsbee,hj, and kountze, just because nederland has done good the last couple of yrs does not make them a great basketball program. Football and baseball are the top 2 sports in nederland!!!
Understand the purpose of this thread. Our football and baseball programs do well, no argument. However, FOOTBALL coaches coach football, BASEBALL coaches coach baseball, then why is it we can not get BASKETBALL coaches to coach basketball. Simple argument. Neumann has developed a good football program. Thats great. He needs to be the head football coach. Thats fine. However, It appears to me there is just too much animosity for our football coach to be AD. Simple.
 8. Details as I know them: Last years assistant coach for Coach English left his coaching roll to accept an administrative position. Several good applicants for the open position, one of which kids and parents alike would love to see move from his Nederland middle school coaching position to the high school level. Our wonderful AD Larry Neumann waits until the last available day and hires a BASEBALL coach who knows nothing about basketball to be Coach English's assistant....without input from the head basketball coach. Make any sense?? No, but that's how our AD rolls. This new coach (coach Walker?) probably is a fine person....but.....how can you accept a position you are not qualified for?? Believe me, Nederland has been groomed into one of the best basketball programs in this area by Coach English, and as basketball parents and as a community who now understands that BASKETBALL is the number ONE sport in Nederland, we will not sit idly by and watch an inept AD prevent basketball from continuing to succeed!!!!  Larry Neumann may be the best football coach in the world....don't really know and don't really care....but I don't think he would be willing to coach his football team with a bunch of non qualified assistants. It is blatantly obvious that he CANNOT be AD and do what is best for the "other" sports.
 9. Good point. I am sure this was not an AAU sanctioned tournament.
 10.
The future is looking bright for SE Texas fans. There are quite a few kids from this area now playing AAU ball. I think the talent level cycle will start to rise again with this 2014 class coming up to varsity.
There are more kids playing AAU and that is great. My biggest complaint with AAU is the lack of ability, or lack of willingness, to enforce specific age requirements in tournaments. We play in the 13U/7th grade division and this is an issue in almost every tournament. We don't complain too much because we are playing summer AAU to put our kids in venues with better competition, and I know a lot of AAU boys will be "playing up" in high school and will face older kids, however when there are specific age divisions it would be nice if people adhered to this. Winning isn't everything, and cheating is cheating. I won't mention the specific team but in the Team Sneed tournament July 2-3 one 13 yr old team had a CONFIRMED 15 yr old playing. I don't put full blame on AAU, the rules are in place but the coaches and parents who participate in this should be ashamed......oh well, off of one soapbox and on to the next
 11.

investigation coming on this one, you can bet suspected steroids.......heads up "always in the weight room and wanting to see birth certificate........what a tragedy I hope this is just congenital problem and not steroid linked......this is just plain sad no matter what way it falls.....
Dont be so quick to judge...Every athlete needs an EKG! My son just had one and guess what?...I get to take a trip to the Cardiologist tomorrow! So not every incident is steroid related...people can be SO quick to judge!
We all seem to be hearing about this type of incident more and more. I also am a parent of a middleschool athlete and it certainly makes you think. Should we as parents be more proactive and request our Dr. Perform an EKG or other test??  Was your son's EKG a "routine" checkup or did something prompt you to have it checked out??
 12.

So, let me get this straight. The football coach "leads" the Longhorns to an 0-10 season (or were they just winless in district?), while the basketball coach's team has a respectable year - the first respectable year in a LONG time...... and its the basketball coach that gets let go?!?!?!?!?!
Many might call it a respectable year. I don't. This team was much better than I expected and I think others will agree. Pre district Wins over Deweyville, Buna, Evadale, Sabine Pass, Tarkington, Orangefield, etc. Expect the best and the results will show. Nederland basketball is a perfect example. English has a passion for the game. Look what his passion for the game has brought to Nederland. Results and school pride in basketball. Well said! Nederland as a community has good basketball talent, as does most other areas, the difference is the commitment by a coach to do whatever it takes to develop the talent and the program. Coach English truly does have a passion for the game, proven by his actions not just words. His passion is becoming Nederlands passion too. I am seeing people at these playoff games that never before showed much basketball interest. Everyone loves a winner, and it takes hard work to become one. Coach English works hard and his players and future players love to work hard for him. Our kids are truly fortunate to have him and so is our community. By the way I am posting this just prior to leaving in a caravan to Katy!!! GO BULLDOGS!!!!!!!
13. Wow!!!! What a great high school basketball game!! It doesn't get any better than that!!! Well....I mean if your a bulldog fan!!!!
 14.
They should but most won't endorse players to scouts they enjoy the pats on the back while their jobs depends on talented players and buying into schemes. Most sadly ride their players back to a better coaching job or Athletic Diretor ........ Opps
Some people should just keep their mouths shut and let us think they're stupid rather then open their mouth and remove all doubt.
 15. Nederland has a great team.....I hope they play up to their full potential for 4 full quarters...
 16. Have not seen Livingston play this year yet.....My pick: Nederland by 15.......More if they get their game on for 4 FULL quarters.....
 17. Can be difficult to say. A good PG on an average or less than average team may not have the "support" he needs to showcase his skills. On the other hand, a good team can help "disguise" a players weakness.
 18. Brian English.....Nederland Bulldogs....Can't argue with this one...Coach English has brought basketball back to Nederland with a winning tradition. A district championship and good playoff run speaks for itself. He is developing Nederland's basketball program from little dribblers, into middle school, and throughout highschool. This was demonstrated tonight as Nederland won the Gulf Coast Classic championship!!!!......Thank you Coach English...BASKETBALL IS NO LONGER A SECONDARY SPORT IN NEDERLAND!!
 19. yes...they always seem to get some home cookin.....if you know what I mean
 20. Nederland won their first 3 games??......who do they play next and when??
