1. How come Cody Robbins missed the list? Hasn't Cody coached Nederland awhile and hasn't he gotten the best out of his teams? Just curious.
Thanks Bmtball and cajun.  Just emailed Walker and I looked over the nations website yesterday and sent link to my coaches.  I know we will have a long season but I know it will be rewarding for the boys.  They have never played ball that consisted of pick offs or lead offs.  We are looking forward to the upcoming season and will begin practicing as soon as jr football is over.  Thanks again
Good luck with your new team and playing select ball. Believe me, just getting away from Little League will be worth it.
Look Smitty's got a new log- in name...WHAT EVER GUY >:(
Neither team is bad , our district is tougher than usual this year. Nederland beat PNG who had a chance to beat Gregory Portland , a team that will do well in the playoffs. PNG played them a better game than Corpus Christi Calallen did the following week. I'm telling ya'll our district is good this year.
District is wide open, but to say the district is real good is a stretch. You throw Kirbyville, Bridge City and WOS in 20 4A this year they all could advance.
After watching Kirbyville last night I would have to say they would be District 20 4A champs. They looked better than anybody I have seen this year in 20 4A.

I was very close to the bench at Vidor along with several parents and their reactions were not very favorable for the coaching staff. I watched as both offense and defense came off the field several times feeling defeated and not one coach went to the bench to try and lift these young mens spirits or give them any encouragement. Just my opinion but a game has 4 quarters not 3 1/2 or 3 3/4 quarters. These young men play until the final second ticks off the clock. I hate to see the stands starting to empty before the game is over and all the negative comments being made. How do you think the players feel to turn around and see their supposed fans leaving the game early because they are being defeated. Staying another few minutes and supporting their team regardless of winning or loosing is what a fan is suppose to do. I have  seen the play of the year happen for a player in the final minute of the game. Another thing we all applaud and support the half time show and all the kids involved but when half time is over most of "their" fans leave cause their shirts say it's all about the half time. This is just my opinion but, stick around its more fun than going to get something to eat. :D
I agree to a point, I would say most of the fans that were leaving early were the over 50 crowd and had to get to Luby's before they closed !
Hold on a minute young buck. I'm in the 50+ crowd. Lubys closes at 8:30. Some of us old farts have a bedtime or have to take meds or some other lame excuse. Win or lose, I'm gonna be there until the band finishes their last Cherokee. Back to topic, the Indians get back on the winning track with a huge win.
I am in that 50+ crowd too. I have to leave because my Viagra is only good for 4 hours.
 10.
Fake punts have a place in ones game plan.  If it works, your a genius.  If it doesn't, well.  The problem I have with this one is that it was on Ned's own 28 yard line.  Meaning a failed attempt -- and it was -- would be more disastrous then if it would have been closer to the 50 yard line.  I think this was a bad coaching mistake on the HC's part. Now to offenses: The problem with everyone going to the same offense assumes that every OC can coach this type of offense.  I'm not sure I hold with the philosophy that all coaches can coach every offense there is.  IMHO.
Smitty, You give such easy questions. 1. Fake punt - why? easy, coaches call, maybe he saw something on game film that gave him reason to try and pull it off, this time it didn't work, next time maybe it does, remember it did work at the last home game. Why did the Saints kick an on-side in the super bowl after half time. That too was the coaches call, one that worked. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. our coaches record shows that the calls he makes usually are right. To dawgnut 1. Take away two long runs and our DC throws a shutdown defensive scheme. By the way those two long runs came after our starting linebacker was hurt. Before then we held them to an average of 3.2 yards per carry. 3.2 yards per carry for 56 carries. Seems to me they had a good scheme planned for two weeks. All that with the only player on defense, (sonnier), who could have ran down the Vidor running back on the sidelines in dress clothes. That wasn't their fastest back running those long runs either.... 2. Old offense vs. new offense - either offense you gotta have players make the plays. you can't have missed assignments, missed routes, give up on blocking assignment too soon, etc.... I prefer the old Nederland offense but the trend is the spread nowadays. Bottom line - game plan is there to win, players make it happen... Again, answer to smitty - Yes Nederland can still make the top four!

I believe Nederland's HC thought the Dogs were on Vidor's 28, not their own 28.
 11. Nederland gave up over 300 yards on the ground to Vidor! I don't care if this is Midcounty Madness..I don't care if this will be at Nederland's home. PNG will beat Nederland by 21 points. Nederland's defense just can't stop the run and the big pass plays. They make huge mistakes every game. Yes PNG has given up huge chunks of yardage but the offense knows how to put up the points on the board. 35-14 is my prediction.
 12. No matter how hard you try to spin it..Nederland is in a world of hurt! Wonder what Larry will do now?

I mean yes it can get big plays but I liked it when we pounded it out and play action passes. This offense isn't impressing me. I see one in the major division made up of nearly all players from one particular select team roster.  I think the problem is that teams were formed with geographic area being considered for convenience.  Guess they didn't think about the possibility of these teams being made up of mostly select players from the same team... Going forward (next season) perhaps SETXBA should create the rosters and do a check before they are finalized to ensure that the majority of the players have not played together... tough to do but i believe something could be done to ensure that teams do not get "stacked".  All in all though, looking forward to playing this fall.. should be fun and a great opportunity for some kids who have never played "real" baseball to learn a few things.
BulldogDad..here is what you stated earlier. It looks like you started this negative train a rolling.
Sorry, my bad..Bulldog Dad did not start it..Castor did. Bulldog just agreed with it by pointing out there is a stacked Major team as well.

As a former league president, I know what you are going through.  Not everyone will be happy all of the time.  But you have done the best you can and made an honest attempt at putting these teams together as fairly and equal as possible while still satisfying a geographical convenience for everyone.  Now lets move on and PLAY BALL!!!  ;D
BulldogDad..looking back at your earlier post i believe you started this mess by saying how stacked one of the Major teams are and how The Baseball Academy needs to look into this next year to make sure this does not happen again. Gee, can't we all just keep our traps shut and just get along? ;D
 23.
The tournament is over and done with, so the only thing you accomplish is venting your frustration.  There's never total agreement on decisions that are made but the manager has the right.  There are two different philosophies on issues such as these: 1.)  The Manager manages the team and leaves parenting to the parent.  Meaning he does what he thinks will get the team to the next game period and tells the parent to deal with the problem and attitude.   or 2.)  The coach potentially sacrifices a win for the team to make a point with one player and takes it out of the parents hands. Either one is right in my book.  It is easier for me to make the decision as a parent than if I were coaching.   Please, let this go and applaud the players who were about the team, hope the player learns he is not the center of the universe before he screws up a scholarship, and respect the time and effort the coaches put into the team.  They were put in a no win situation in which some will agree with their decision and others won't.
Sorry but I have to disagree with you about ignoring this behavior and trusting the parents to handle it. As a Manager he should handle this immediately. It is only fair to the other members on the team. What kind of message is this Manager sending to this player and the other players who are playing as a "TEAM". What would have happened if the 6 kids on the bench decided to walk off during the tournament? Would they have gotten to play every inning of every game after doing that?
