  1. Newton should win this game by 2 touchdowns, but don't take anything for granted. At this point in the playoffs, there is no bad teams. If the best team has a few miscues. They could easily lose the game. You have to play basically, mistake free football from this point on. That's who will win the state championship game. Not necessarily the best team. There is definitely some great competition from this point forward for Newton. They may have the best team. Hope they win it!!
  2. This was a great football game. Elysian Fields has a great quarterback and several excellent receivers. Their defense played excellent as well. Newtons defense played great. Newtons defense, will be difficult to score very many points on, from here on out. I think Newtons defense is definitely the key to their success. Specifically their pass defense. Run defense, and pass rush is equally as good. Newtons offense played well, limited mistakes. Barbay doesn't make very many mistakes. He doesn't force the ball. He's a smart kid. I believe Elysian Fields has the second best team in 3A II. Behind Newton. Time will tell. From here on out,There isn't any bad teams. Great game. Hats off to Elysian Fields.
  3. Great football game. Newton defense applying pressure on quarterback every play. EF defense shutting down Newton's running game. EF quarterback is and exceptional quarterback. This one will likely go to the wire. EF will get kickoff in second half.
  4. Newton turns ball over on downs. 33 seconds left in half
  5. Newton defense pressuring quarterback. Causing EF to commit a lot of holding penalities
  6. If you watch the highlight film, you would think this has the potential to be a close game. But Newtons defense will expose EF's offense, like no one has. And then we can say 28 points was close. Because Newton will continue to dominate throughout the rest of the playoffs. Newton by 28, a Nail Biter!
  7. I think our good friend is insinuating, that if a better team adopts Libertys game plan, they may be able to beat WOS. I believe you should use whatever strategy gives you the best chance of winning. Most teams won't vary to far away from whatever has made them successful thus far. If they do and are not successful the nay Sayers will come out. If they are successful, they are genius. Time will tell. I'm not from WOS. But it's hard to not see the obvious. They have one of the best teams in the state, of any size. And one of the best, if not the best, in the nation for their enrollment. Now, they may not even win state. But I'm thinking these so called experts in Las Vegas, would put odds in their favor.
  8. 283 total yards Newton Hemphill 12 total Yards
  9. The key to Newton winning multiple state championships is their ability to defend the pass, and passiing the football acuratly. It is a threat this year. It could be better, but it's good enough to win a state championship. Pass defense could improve. It is definitely better than years past. But they are prone to get burned by the d backs defending run first. In my opinion, Newton has failed to win 2-3 state championships, due to a week secondary. And the absence of any passing game to speak of. I'm definitely a Newton fan. Just stating as what I believe is the obvious. It's hard to win a state championship even if you have the best team. There is 4-5 other teams that can beat Newton if everything goes well for them, or if Newton makes mistakes or throws the football away. Barbay will need to be on his game when they play teams that throw the ball well. Let there be no doubt Crockett is one of those teams. Newton should win a another state championship. But they will have to be on their A Game. They have the best team, if they play like it, barring injuries. Champions again.
  10. Crockett does have a great football team. Newton may see them again in the playoffs. Crockett had many self inflicted wounds. Newton really didn't play very well. Barbay is a much better passer than he showed Friday night. Luck is involved in every game. The best team does not always win. But the combination of luck and great play will take you far. Crockett will get another chance to prove themselves. Chances are, luck or bad calls will not decide the out come of their season. But if you play consistent great football you will most likely get what you deserve. Don't blame your season on this game. Learn from it, and improve. Big plays aren't always luck. Interceptions aren't always luck. But they are part of the game.
