1. In 18-4A it's the usual suspects at the top.  With 6 games left its down to 5 teams.  Brenham is at the top with a 9-1 record.  Next is 8-2 Montgomery with 7-3 Magnolia in third.  Caney Creek at 7-4 is currently in the 4th playoff spot, but 6-5 Magnolia West isn't far behind.  We'll meet 17-4A in the bi-district round.  That district looks pretty much wrapped up as well. 17-4A Georgetown 8-0 Hutto          8-0 Connally      5-2 Bastrop        5-3
 2. Brenham Soph  Ryan Newman 7th HR SR  Dayne Wunderlich 7th HR JR  Dakota Brewton  2nd HR
 3. The Cubs look to avenge their only district loss.

Sc with there qb and two receivers back and that transfer running back. And Crosby with the twins and that tight end coming back. If they find a defense they would be serious contenders in D2.
Why do you think D2 is so much easier?  To me it's all the same.
In my opinion there are a lot more tougher teams in D1 than in D2. At least it was that way last year. I'm not saying that all teams in D2 are push overs. I'm just saying D1 has a lot more powerhouse teams. IMO that is.
I agree, the reason D2 is easier is because of the enrollment. Georgetown won 3 or 4 games in 5a before realignment. The powerhouse teams like Dawson, Georgetown, Summer Creek, and 4a state champ Denton Guyer all have enrollments around 2000 or above. All things being equal an extra 5-600 kids makes a big difference. Division 2 teams are usually within a couple hundred kids of each other which makes for less disparity between the teams.
Then how do you explain some small schools consistently beating bigger schools or even schools from a lager classification?  BTW, I wouldn't consider Georgetown and SC powerhouses yet.  Nothing against them, but SC has one playoff win and Georgetown had one good year.  Dawson is proven, but that's about it.  Even they lose to a few smaller schools.
Which smaller schools are you talking about??
Brenham, LaMarque, Navasota, Stephenville & Dayton.  Those schools have under 1,500 students and have consistently beat schools with a 2000+ enrollment.

 6. If the rain holds off, the Cubs will look to avenge their only district loss tomorrow against Magnolia West.  If the Mustangs can manage to catch lightning in a bottle twice, they will place themselves in a great spot to get into the playoffs.

 10.
Well Brenham fan and Critter . The first problem we have is it was a judgment call versus a rules call . We went into the bottom of the 8th inning down 3-2 to creek after leading entire game up until top of 7th 2-0 . Hats off to creek , they hit a 2 run shot to tie it up and ended up forcing extra innings . They scored 1 in top of 8th , we come up in the bottom of the 8th , and we have a player smash the ball to left , we actually thought it was gone . Ball clearly came off of wall and outfield caught it with his bare hand , turned and fired it into the shortstop . Meanwhile our batter/runner is coming into 2nd with what everyone including creek thinks is a stand up double . Low and behold , the umpires called him out , declaring the outfielder had caught the ball . Lets just say it got a little crazy for a few minutes after that . So to sum it up , we should have a runner in 2nd , next batter hits a ball to the gap which woul have scored runner on 2nd , batter ends up with a double . Should be tied back up 3-3 now . The runner on second ends up scoring from second on a play that resulted in an error on the throw to first on a ground ball play , which should have made it 4-3 broncos bottom of 8th inning ball game over no need to continue . And there you have it . I know there is nothing that can be done about it now . But what a horrible way to lose a game for the broncos . Baseball gods where looking after creek that night I guess .  8)
Sounds like a bad break.  In 2010 we lost to Rudder 4-3, on a swinging strikeout.  The thing is, the ball was low but never hit the ground.  Instead of extra innings, our catcher makes a bad throw due to hesitating and the runner at second scores.  We played them again the next week in a tourney and won 10-0 and eventually won state that year.  Y'all get SC again, maybe y'all will have the same fortune.
 11.
It's really sad when a mistake can cost a team a ball game of last nights importance between Summer Creek  , and Dayton . Any ideas on what can be done to prevent these types of mistakes from happening . Usually a bad call here and there is going to happen , and they generally don't have a direct impact on the outcome of a ball game . The blunder last night snatched the victory straight out of the hands of the Broncos .
?
