1. They could slip in if Texas gets 4 regionals.  I think Texas, A&M and TCU are near locks to host.  The bubble team to host is Rice.  A Rice regional probably ups Tex St chances.  I am just cautious after what happened last year.
2. Congratulations Colby and best of luck as a Gator
3. This is actually a great topic:  how does NCAA select participants for regionals, etc? Simply wins and losses are not the sole measure (although rare, 40 win teams miss an invite and less than 30 wins get in).  Upsets in tournament plays also plays havoc.  With that being said, the biggest 'stats' that the NCAA uses are (1) RPI and (2) Strength of Schedule.  That is why, for example, the SEC gets 8 teams (this year, their #9 and #10 teams will probably get in).  With that being said, look at the resumes from the Southland: TEXAS STATE:  solid contender with 36 wins, 24-9 conf record and regular season champion.  Their RPI is 46 (not a lock from a 2nd tier conference) and their SOS an even worse 76.  This is very similar to the Bobcats' situation last year when...Lamar came from the 7th seed to win the conf tourney.  How did that help?  The conference's best team got left at home.  No invite.  Also, Texas State really does not have any marquee wins this season. SFA:  also with 36 wins and a 20-13 2nd place conf finish.  On the other hand, their RPI is a lowly 95 with a Strength of Schedule of 148. A&M-CC:  3rd place at 19-14 with 35-23 overall.  While they do have some quality wins, the bottom line is that their RPI is a tough-to-advance 89 and a SOS of 112.   At the end of the week, the winner of the tourney gets in and I am afraid the rest stay home.  Tx State has the best at-large argument; however, the lack of 'big' wins is a difficult issue.
4. 74 -- Port Neches:  Steve Fry @ Rice University (1B) 75 -- French:  Lynn Poindexter @ Rice University (C)
5. Actually, a 4th Sun Devil has committed to Ole Miss:  Sam Smith RHP (Barbe HS)
6. Whew...my Bruins taking on some water here. Some truth on both sides of this post.  Young team and that makes this year a learning experience but, on the other hand (as the saying goes), the top programs don't rebuild, they reload.  My time with the JV experience at West Brook was too long ago to comment on now.  I watch from too far away now. Good luck to the kids.
7. A shout out to one of my alltime favorites:  Jake Rowell who collected two hits as the UALR Trojans def. #3 (and previously undefeated) Okla Sooners.  I swear, that boy could fall out of bed hitting....
8. To no great surprise, I (like Ole Miss) think Cameron Dishon is superb OF.  Price Jacobs (committ to Houston) has close to Dishon speed and little stronger arm.  Really liked Jalali when he was younger...not sure where he is at now.  Reggie Wilson will be hampered as OF because he is undersized with ave OF speed at 6.8-6.9.  Might have future at P with velocity in upper 80s.  Good protege there is Hicks who overcame that and is tearing it up at Lafayette.  Great idea by Robiceaux to make him a closer.
9. The C from Houston Lamar is Cody Lankford, a 2011 graduate who is committed to Texas A&M.  Good catcher, can also play some corner INF.  We're pretty happy to have Menard and Trahan to be honest with you. Have not seen the kid from Evadale.
10. Congrats to Quinton and his family.  On to the next level....after having superb Sr. year !!!!
11.
2 sports?
Baseball...that's it. Heck, that's enough.
12. Cameron Dishon committed today to the SEC and the Ole Miss Rebels.  Looks like I get some more time in Oxford....
13. Congrats to one of the "Originals"...onward and upward, David !!!!
14. Bridge City’s Cameron Dishon and Matt Menard represented SE Texas well at the 2010 Perfect Game National Underclass-Main Event at the Boston Red Sox spring training site in Fort Myers, Fla.  This event featured a huge turnout of approximately 500 players from across the country as well as international participants (Puerto Rico, etc). 1. In the 60, Cameron ran a 6.62 on a slow track and was 6th overall.  Matt ran a 6.81 and was easily the fastest catcher at the event. 2. Their hitting evaluations were equally outstanding: OF Cameron Dishon (2012, Bridge City HS, TX) showed some of the best hitting tools of the day.  He produces outstanding bat speed from the right side and he has serious juice in his bat. C Matthew Menard (2012, Bridge City HS, TX) was one of the strongest players in attedance and used his impressive strength in his swing and good bat speed to put on a very impressive display in batting practice These evaluations were written by Dave Rawnsly, National Director of Scouting for PG (and former Asst Director of Scouting for the Houston Astros).  Rawnsly believed that Dishon’s bat speed may have been the best of anyone at the event. Kudos to Matt and Cameron’s summer coach, Matt Thompson of the Sun Devils.  Not only did he work to get the guys ready but he went with us to Florida and worked with them throughout the event.  A quick story about Matt – before 1 of the games, Matt was throwing BP to Cameron and Matt.  Some of the kids from other programs asked if he’d throw to them.  Not only did Matt do that, but he worked with each of them on their swing, etc.  That is a true baseball guy for ya… But, first and foremost, congrats to both young men.  An outstanding performance.
15. Congratulations to Price Jacobs (Goose Creek) who has committed to University of Houston.  I had the opportunity to talk to him last night and he was one excited kid...good for him.
16. And what a party it is...one of the best days of the year.
17. Congrats to Austin and all of the Stones.  Trading purple for green and gold.
18. Best phone call I can get:  "Hey Coach...Thanks."  Makes it all worth while. Congrats to Trev and his family.  All of his work and efforts have paid off.
19. Congrats -- one of my all-time favorites.
20. Sun Devils won 12-1. Thanks on Tim.  Had another one last night.  Johnny had 2 hits last night, including game winning RBI in 7th.
21. And 2 more hits last night, including GW RBI
22. Lamar and Nederland ex Matison Smith signs with Astros and is assigned to their team in Gulf Coast League (Florida).
23.
COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Texas A&M senior pitchers Clayton Ehlert (LCM) and Shane Minks (West Columbia) inked professional free agent contracts with American League teams this week. Ehlert signed with the Cleveland Indians and has reported to the club’s rookie league affiliate, the Arizona League Indians, based in Goodyear. The right-hander went 4-6 in 2010 with a 4.87 ERA, starting 14 games and appearing five times out of the bullpen. Ehlert threw a team-best two complete games, including a 7-1 defeat of Rice at Olsen Field, and got a win over No. 1 Texas with a strong outing at the Big 12 Championship. He struck out 66 batters in 81 1/3 innings of work
According to the Indians' organizational roster, Clayton has been assigned to Mohoning Valley, short season A league.  Congrats to him and his family.  And the road continues...
24. It wasn't much as far as at bats go.  He caught it a little out in front and rolled it over, just solid enough to sneak past the 3b, through the 6 hole and into left field for a single.  And, just like that, Tim Ferguson had a hit in his first professional at bat, on his first professional swing. Like I said, it wasn't much, but, to me, it was worth the world.  I could not be prouder.
