  1. Hey ETBU......are you a graduate of there.....what year?????? I am headed back up there to coach next year in the football program and am very excited.....
  2. BISD has all the money they need......Their tax base is quite a bit bigger than SLC's......I am sure SLC would not have a problem with coming to your "turf"......I am sure it would be quite a game......
  3. Hey ECBucFan......does Mangan have a ring....I think TV has 2.....one as a coordinator and one as a Head Coach.....maybe I am wrong though......
  4. I have a few myself......my favorite was when LC-M used to run a summer program for all students grade 3-9 I believe......You would go up to the gym and take different classes.....I can remember him teaching tumbling....that sucker demonstrated every move almost perfectly..... Later that same summer, he tried to talk a friend of mine and me into boxing.....he told me with the right training, I could stand a punch to the jaw.....he told me and my friend to punch him in the jaw as hard as we could.....when we said no, he kept saying come on, come on, come on......he would tense up and say right here man.....we were scared to death......I really laugh about it now
  5. It shocked me Stew applied for the job......He is in a better situation where he is now......
  6. Who is Fentress and where is he from.......1-9?????? He only spent one year as the head coach?????
  7. I just do not understand.......How does this happen???? Who got the Woodville job????
  8. I agree Dayton.....I am the DC in a 4A program now that has a lot of tradition and it makes all the difference.......those kids trust the coaches and bust their butt to continue the tradition.
  9. I am in shock here.....What has happened to the once storied H-F program.....They used to have some excellent athletes......Felman Malveaux and the likes when coach Tarver was there........I always thought that would be a great job......the Kemp guy may be a great guy and coach but you have to look at records and how the community, school, and players will react.......I just went through a hiring where a guy with a 7-14 record was hired and it has flopped.....15 coahces are leaving and the "presence" is not there......the team will be lucky to win one game next year in a program that was on the upswing.....
  10. Dayton- Yes, I understand the tax base issue but, you are telling me Beaumont has a low tax base???????? Mid county has a low tax base??????? I think there is a chemical plant or 2 down there........there is very little business in SLC.....it is mainly housing......there is a huge strain on the budget there.....Teachers make more in many of the schools down there than they do in SLC and Highland Park and so do the coaches.......In fact, the head man at SLC makes a little over $80,000.....not much considering.... jmspears- You were not just asking a question......you were insinuating (sorry if that word is too much for you) that the parents run the program in SLC.....as far as stiking a nerve, not at all.......I am not associated with SLC except for competing against them and having friends there......You think they care what you think......or what I may think......I was just clearing it up that the parents do not run the program.....the head man does...... Cougar pride- have you priced houses in SLC......they do not get your typical move ins.....yes, they have their share but on there varsity next year, I would say maybe 2 starters total were not in Jr. Hi there..... All I am saying is until you have been around a program like that, you just cannot understand how that works.......I watched one of their JV track kids puke his guts up after the 400 because he had to win his heat....Losing is unacceptable in their minds....winning is expected and those kids bust their buttstonot be the team / group that lets the "Tradition" slip
  11. Thank you Dayton for clearing that up.......good grief.....now you want to talk times in track, don't even bring your 4A stuff here.....check out the 5A Region I times brother......I know there is some speed down there......I used to live and work down there, but the Metro-plex has some really good times as well....And when you check out those times, the prelims were much faster than the finals....the wind was significant on finals day and it was swirling so they did not turn the races around......It was in Lubbock, TX
  12. I am close to the program and I know the guy that wen there then went back to HP.......It had nothing to do with the parents at all......I will not discuss the reason for the move and return but I can assure you that it was in the coaches office and that is where it will stay......I am not part of the green circle but have many friends that are and the info will stay in the green circle......the new head coach tried to hire his brother as the DC and that did not work out either.....you think parents had something to do with that......the new DC in there now is a 4-2-5 guy.....but they will stay with the 4-3.....not because the parents say so, but because it has been successful wouldn't you say........You can assume all you want to bu those of us who know what goes on there, know the truth.....SLC is not for everyone.....
  13. The money goes into the general fund for the whole school. Success breads this type of ticket price. Why do you think colleges / pros spend so much money on hiring coaches. If you win, you can charge what youwant and people will pay. As far as being knocked down a notch, have you ever been around them. Those kids and coaches are very humble and show a lot of respect for others and the game. You never see them talk trash or run their mouth. They do not brag about all the publicity. Now for those of you that think they have superior talent, their times from track are this: 4x100 42.82, 4x200 1:30.02, 4x400 3:21.50.......Did not make the finals in anything at the regional meet except they went 1, 2, 3 inthe 3200 and 1, 2, 4 in the 1600 (those guys are not football players by the way). So why don't you guys with all the speed come up here and get you some. The only person from the football prgram that didn't run was Riley (hamstring).....They will win it all again this next year.......They will have some close games but you can bet they are going to win
  14. Why in the world does it take sooooooooo long to hire down there.....Post it for 2 maybe 3 weeks, cull the next and make calls, interview the next Monday, Board meeting to hire on Thursday 4, maybe 5 weeks at the most.......BC is already behind in off-season.....BISD seemed like they did the same thing.......why drag your feet.....get it done so the prgram can move on
  15. Now, that may have been why he moved to the metroplex but that is not why he chose Marcus ove SLC......That was the point I was making......Sorry I wasn't clear enough......
  16. If you look at a map, you will see Flower Mound and Southlake are very close to each other......FM Marcus does have some talent, not much but some but no where near what SLC has......That is a 40 point difference at least...... No, he knew who was going to get that job just like everyone else up here
  17. Hello guys......glad to be back...... Just to let you know, it is Wasson's.......The app. list was so short because most people are smart enough to know that you don't apply for SLC unless you have a few rings, or are in the Green Circle (Wason is by the way)......I do not know this for sure but I would bet SLC called Erwin and Wasson and told them to apply.....the rest were on their own.......Look for Wasson to be named this week.....of course, I could be very wrong on this.... Why do you think Erwin accepted the Marcus Job?????
  18. If you have never been around the green circle, things are kept quiet until they have to be revealed.......If Stump is going, you won't know it until he has his plane ticket and the boxes are packed......
  19. He will do well......UNT athletics is on the upswing.......Timing is very important to be successful in coaching......his timing is excellent....... You need to check your figures on salary......he did not make $100,000 a year in salary nor did he make that with all the extras.......the UNT contract salary is $2,000,000 over 4 years I believe.....And no, I do not coach at SLC and am very far removed from direct information so I may be wrong......
  20. I agree 972.....let them waller in their own squaller......I am done here..... And the post was not meant to offend anyone......FWCOA OUT
  21. you guys that are getting all huffy need to go back and read the other posts........I cannot speak for 972 but I cannot afford to go down there.....it would be a cut in pay nobody could manage......we are talking about how the programs up here are very good and that the GT needs to upgrade.....again, you have proven my point.....the attitudes of the GT are why the programs are in the tank......"we do the best with what we have" is just another excuse for mediocrity.......you need to be striving to keep up, not just get by.......
  22. Hey pods.......I am not trying to look down my nose at anyone......just pointing out that SETx has issues that need addressing to catch up with the rest of the state.......I have coached in both areas and can tell you just like 972 has that it is a huge difference........go back and read all my posts and see that it was not done in a derogatory manner......now you want to get all huffy........I can get specific but I have some good friends down there and know they are good coaches, just in a tough situation......so take your blinders off and get a clue...... Plus if you go back and look, I was discussing big schools.....I said East Texas has the best small school programs........I also said to include Houston in the discussion........ I want to see that area improve but people like you are going to hamper that because there is always an excuse why not to do something and that we can't do it because we are this or that......you have proven my point for me brother
  23. Hey my man.....I am from down there.....I know there is tradition and I respect where I came from........And yes, I know they are trying to run the spread......Lumberton used to try......not much success because the scheme was wrong......WO-S tries to run it but doesn't understand it......I love where I am up here......If you could be up here and see how things are done, you would understand.......The Golden Triangle is 20 years behind everyone else.......No way WO-S should lose in the 3A playoffs to a team that is not playing for the state title......no way Ozen should ever lose........Yes, BISD is screwed up.......it is the same way up here in the inner city districts......PN-G and Nederland could have SLC type programs......but they don't.....it is the whole attitude down there......it just isn't the same as it is up here.....it is not just in athletics......it is education in general........ Tell them 972
  24. Yeah......you're right........all those chemical plant / refineries we have up here......wait....they are all built down there.......You guys have the tax base to do whatever you want to do.........we do have industry but not nearl what you guys have........ We are not just talking about facilities.....I am talking about prgrams in general......I will take WO-S for example........they get away with the things they do because nobody down there has the speed to match up with them.......If you put 11 men within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage up here, you will give up 100 points a game.......If someone would bring a metroplex offense down there, and install it correctly....they would dominate......The teams I have seen try to run the spread down there have no idea how to run it......everything is drop back (5 step)pro and routes.......NO BUENO.......you have to be able to throw the quick game...... You just have to experience this up here is all I can say...... If BISD would hire someone from up here......out of a SLC / Highland Park program....at Ozen.....Lookout.....it would be bad for everyone in that area......
  25. I said to include the Houston area........There is some good football down there......It is just the programs down there are behind the programs up here....... Turf does not make a program......but it does show a committment to a program.......the new turf is just like grass.......it diws not hurt the joints like the hard pan stuff........ Please do not include TAPPS in this discussion.......nobody cares......we are talking UIL........ I will reitterate what 972 and I have said........if you get a chance to come up here and watch or be a part of a program up here, take it......you will see what we are talking about....... I don't think Westfield has won a state championship recently......There are more 5A schools in the greater Houston Area than there are in the DFW area.......
