  1. I hear talk about dedication and hard work and busting butts......My question is, ow many of those kids ran track? If you do not have those kids on the track in the spring, you are not going to get faster. Speed wins games. If you cannot run, you cannot win and especially down there. I do not know much about the current LC-M situation but I can can speak with some authority about the overall mind set of the community. It is voiced here in the idea that the 3rd teamerrs should play because they work hard. That ain't how it works. As a coach, you have to give the team the best chance to win. There is a reason they are 3rd teamers. It is also the coaches job to motivate those starters to do what is right. If the coach is not allowed to do what it takes because a parent may be in the Supt. office wondering why baby is being disciplined and an "elementary approach" is seen as the best measure, then the coaches hands are tied. But like I said, that is the mind set of the community.
  2. UNLV is an idiot. I can assure you that if it has NCAA in front of it, it is not JV ball. I do not think Rhett Bomar is a JV player. And he is jus tone of many at that level. I am not sure what UNLV's experience is with college football but it must not be much if App. St. is JV in his mind.
  3. Yes....the good 4A's can play with the good 5A's.....I do not think anyone would argue with that.....but have Dayton line up week in and week out against a 5A district and they will have a hard time........Coaches at even the best 4A schools will tell you they cannot compete at the 5A level for an entire season.......One reason is depth.....Depth in the sense that a 5A backup is still pretty good where a 4A backup probably isn't and also in that in practice, that starter knows his backup is going to give him a great look on every snap.......If you were to take this years 4A state champs and play the 5A state champs, it would not even be a contest.....I have coached at both levels and it is not even close.......
  4. I must appologize to the Lumberton, Dayton, PNG district for saying you guys would go 0-3.....Congratulations to all of you and I hope you are as successful this round as you were in the last.....
  5. I hope you are correct......I like 22-4A and have been in that district before......however, football down there is way behind football anywhere else........I know that will make all of you upset down there bbut travel around the state and you will see what I am talking about......The failure of the WO-S field turf bond is just the tip of the iceburg.......I know that has nothing to do with wins and losses but it does have to do with the state of the programs.......I am not even sure who is in the district you guys are facing in the first round.......can someone share that with me please.......If it is the LaMarque district, excuse my week district comment......but that is the only district down there that can roll it up....
  6. GoBigBlu.......There is no way that district is the toughest it has ever been......The 1996 Lumberton (95 season) played in the district with WO-S in one of ther good years and LC-M when they were rolling and only 2 teams went to the playoffs........You can bet this district will be 0fer in the playoffs......against a fairly weak district next door......the only team that has a cance the first round is Dayton who seems to have pulled it together just in time......I have not seen this team play but I know first hand how good that 96 team was........A lot of people forget about the 95 team (94 season) that beat everyone in the district but LC-M (12-1) and WO-S (13-1).......They were very talented and formed the base of the 96 success.....
  7. How close are you to the LC-M situation pigskinmom????? I bet we know each other or at least have some common friends
  8. It hasn't always been that way........There have been some great disciplinarians come through there.......Guys who didn't care about what Johnny Moneybags (not that there is any real money in LC-M, just wannabe') had to say.......They did what was right for the team and worked with kids to make sure they conformed to what was expected........ I am not sure there will be any success until the community quits acting spoiled and they develop a "closed door" policy on WO-S transfers......You want to play for LC-M, you better live there with your guardian......If you always take WO-S reject, you will never have their respect.......or the respect of the area
  9. Hey bhawk......I know your brother then.......Did you ask Coach Adams and Coach Light about those games?????? What about you Luv Ya Blu????? What was your tie to those teams????
  10. If playing a kid can cost you the game, how is that fair to everyone else on the team? The team should always be bigger than the individual.......In Jr. High, play them all, but not equally.....you have to teach them to win at some point and time......In Fresh. play is limited but all still should play, playing time then becomes less sure as you get older.....that is just the way it is and the way it should be.......
  11. Luv Ya Blu.......Were you involved in the program then?
  12. Yes....L-town will win this game. Te question was asked, "When was the last time Lumberton was this good?" The answer is 1995 and 1996.......both those years Lumberton had LC-M on the ropes for a playoff spot.....in 1995, L-town had LCM stopped in the backfield on 4th down with the game tied but #8 broke the tackle and scored, ask Coach Adams if he remembers that play........Then in 1996, as was entioned earlier, 4th and goal and LC-M makes the big stop, coach Light remembers that play as well I am sure.....
  13. For as long as I can remember, LC-M has accepted WO-S rejects. There is a reason they left WO-S and it usually means baggage or problems. If they can play, they will stay there. LC-M needs to change the entire mindset of the community. It is tough to discipline there because this parent or that parent is friends with the Supt. or a board member and if you try to take care of an issue, you get a call. The years that LC-M was successful, they had a great core group that worked very hard and understood how to win. I think the expectation of the program is to be competitive and not have parent calls. I don't know how many times I have heard that we produce good citizens here at LC-M. If that is the measure of the football team, then don't get on the coach for going 3-7. It all starts at the top and very few elementary teachers that move up the ladder in administration understand how improtant a successful football team is to a school, a town and a community.
  14. For all of you crying about your dollars leaving you. Yes, it is not fair. I think it is crazy. However, if you understood school finance, you would know that the money you send does not go toward facilities. Facility money is voted on by the local tax payers. If they want nice facilites, they vote them in. If you want a nice facility in PNG or BISD, float the bond. If you tie your money up in facilities, you do not have to send it. Bond money does ot go to pay for the operation of a school. You have I&S funds and you have M&O funds. Quit griping about what you don't have and do something about it.
  15. Great lists.....If they played in the League, no way should they be left off.....Glad to see someone mention Tezino (WO-S 88)......may be the best ever out of the triangle.....I know that is saying a lot but, Pup was an all-pro and Tezino was better than anyone on that Defense.......His blown knee cost him his chance.....I thought he played safety though, not LB......Also, Kendall Cleveland should at least be honorable mention......Talk about some throw back names......Reggie Davis, Tony Allen......Ran against Allen when I was a sophomore in the prelims of the 400 at the district meet......race was over before we got out of the first turn.....unbelievable speed......300 split was like 30.0.....
