  1. Burkeville was established in 1844, and several times was the county seat of Newton County. Chester was established in 1883, and became a town in 1968.
  2. That’s what I’m talking about!!!! Let’s get some interest generated for this game. I think it’s going to be a great game. Go ‘Jackets!!!!
  3. Where to eat in Chester before the game? Chester Super Stop has Hunt Brother’s Pizza. Word is we are about to get a mall (aka DGS).
  4. Aubrey Bradley Stadium seats more than 100. [Hidden Content]
  5. I forgot how much I dislike Smoltz as an announcer.
  6. The most notable person from the Chester area pre-dates the actual town: [Hidden Content].
  7. I missed one for Burkeville: Ernie Holmes- Former NFL defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1971-1977) and New England Patriots (1978) and 2x Super Bowl champion. He was part of the legendary Steel CurtainPittsburgh Steelers' defense along with fellow linemen Joe Greene, Dwight White, and L. C. Greenwood.
  8. Burkeville has had a young man make it to the NFL, Chester has not. Player Pos Teams From To Robert Hunt OL MIA 2020 2023
  9. Burkeville, Texas population is 1641, and the population of Chester, Texas is 277. I’ll continue to post factoids and try to keep this thread from being buried. I can see a true David vs. Goliath game developing here.
  10. Homecoming was this past weekend against Tyler Heat. We have the big parade / Saturday game every 4 years or so.
  11. Looks like Burkeville has a significant lead in the overall history, however Chester has won 4 of the last 6. [Hidden Content]=
  12. Burkeville (2-4) travels to Chester (3-4) this coming Friday night for a big district match-up. Leverett’s Chapel (4-2) is leading the district, with High Island (1-6) rounding out the district. If you have never been to a 6-man game I invite you to make the trip to beautiful Aubrey Bradley Stadium in downtown Chester. Burkeville has a very storied and successful history in football and this should be a great game. 1-A doesn’t get much love or coverage, but football is still a big thing in small towns too. The weather should be great, concessions are always good and the atmosphere will be exciting. If you make it let me know and I’ll keep an eye out for you. These two are old long-standing district mates and hopefully this will be a great game.
  13. Chester scores on a deep pass to the corner, up 35-0.
  14. Interception by the Yellowjackets, for a pick 6. Yellowjackets up 28-0.
  15. Chester scores again, now up 21-0. Yellowjackets look good tonight.
  16. Chester homecoming from beautiful Aubrey Bradley Stadium. Don’t want to do the AI scoreboard thing. With 5:37 to go in the 1st Quarter, the Yellowjackets are up 7-0 and driving.
  17. CHEF stands for…… Christian Home-School Educated Families. When I coached a home-school team we played in a league primarily based out of Louisiana called ACEL, and a lot of those teams had that acronym. If that’s the team from Baton Rouge they are normally pretty salty.
