  1. Hope for safe travels for everyone and a competitive game. I don’t think I’ll be making this one. Grandkids are coming up for the Chester Fall Festival (Saturday at 4).
  2. If this holds out, weird to say, but I instantly become a Phillies fan. If the Diamondbacks win, just not sure.
  3. Just a mere 4 months away. Better be working and preparing, and hope to see a deep play-off run from the Yellowjackets of Chester HS.
  4. Chester travels to 80’s r&b group LeVert’s church for a 6-man game for the district lead. EVERYONE in the pick’ems are convinced that the singers of Cassanova will be victorious. Let’s have a great week of practice Yellowjackets and sneak a W in.
  5. Man I left in the 9th to go to the Chester game - hate I missed all the fireworks. 1 more ‘Stros!!!!!
  6. Final from Aubrey Bradley Stadium in downtown Chester has the Yellowjackets winning by a score of 67-26. Way to go boys.
  7. Chester up 67-26, with 2:00 left in the game.
  8. Chester 61 Burkeville 26 15.5 seconds in the 3rd quarter left.
  9. Chester is up 35-20 with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.
  10. We have an official thread!!!!! Let’s go ‘Jackets!!!!!
  11. Let’s get after it tonight boys. Play hard, stay focused and give all you have for the entire game. Looking forward to tonight. Let’s go Yellowjackets!!!!!!!!🏈🏈🏈🟣🟡🟣🟡🟪🟨
  12. Not sure. I think last year was the first, and Chester won 64-18.
  13. The first meeting between the 2 schools was 1937, which Chester won 13-0. 1937 in the United States: > FDR was sworn in for his second term. > It was the 9th year of the Oscars. > Of Mice and Men was first published. > William Henry Hastie was the first black judge appointed to the US Federal bench. > The worst school disaster in US history happened. A natural gas explosion at the New Boston (Tx) school killed 295 students and faculty.
  14. We sit in no-man’s land between the Beaumont TV coverage area and the Lufkin/Longview/Tyler coverage area. And……I know it’s not on anyone’s radar. Just trying to let the boys know there are those out there that support them.
  15. Phenomenal athlete, as were all his brothers too George, Ben and Bit. Bo was a senior when I was freshman and was definitely someone we all looked up to. Left handed catcher that would throw from his knees and the ball was there at 2nd before the runner 95% of the time.
  16. D-1 and college players….I was trying to think, and asked some friends if Chester has ever had a major D-1 athlete. Sean Terry was a punter for TAMU. His dad was coach at Chester for awhile, and not sure if he claims Chester has a “home town”. Cord Neal ran track at Lamar I believe. Mark Young played baseball at several colleges and later into semi-pro. He is a member of the LeTourneau athletics Hall of Fame. He later coached at Chester and currently coaches softball at Dallardsville Big Sandy. David Handley played football for Austin College in Sherman, Tx before becoming a physician. I know Burkeville has had some D-1 athletes, probably several major college athletes. I worked with Al and Tim Spikes and we used to talk sports all the time.
  17. State Championships: Burkeville - Football 1986 & 2001 Chester - Basketball 1970 Now, I’m sure there are individual championships, such as track golds that I am unaware of. I know we had a female in our class win state back to back seasons in track.
  18. Playing with Miami now. Small-towns are tough. When I graduated from Chester I went into the military, and then on to big city PD. I was able to retire (still working though), switch to a different agency and we moved back. The disparity between the pay from this county and Beaumont (for law enforcement) is roughly $23K starting, and at Beaumont your pay progresses but the county pay stays the same. With all that said though, a small school education is what you make of it. In my class of 19, there was a chemical engineer, a financial-aid director at a university, several successful business owners, a bank VP in Houston, several teachers and civil servants. You are more involved (sports, UIL events, Ag, etc) and have all the opportunities you want. I loved it.
  19. Chester has a historical marker for a fort that pre-dates the Republic of Texas. Legends and lore of buried gold in the area. [Hidden Content]
  20. Interesting Burkeville fact, the city was once home to a college. Blum Male and Female College was chartered in 1880. A fire destroyed most of it in 1906, meaning Burkeville had a college for 26 years. Now you know.
