  1. I'll step in and say, Ozen deserved the win all the way. This is a good lesson for the boys...you can't play second half ball. You have to be ready from the moment the ball is kicked until the clock runs out. You can't say it was all the boys fault, the coaching needed help as well. It was a matter of poor management with everything. I just don't think anyone was ready for this game to be like it was. It was a weird situation, and I will blame the refs for some poor non-calls, but we would not have pulled the win anyway. You're just going to need to shake this off and take it up next week at home with PN-G. Good luck guys I'm with you all the way to the end, no matter where we end up in district... you are still my PIRATES!!!
  2. Have you ever played Vidor on their home turf?!!!! Will be a great game to watch. Good luck to both teams and an injury free game.
  3. All you guys have to do is catch the ball before you take off running. It's a mind thing. Your body's reaction is to run as soon as you catch, but your brain is thinking faster; therefore, you get the dropped passes. I watched it over and over in the last game. You have to tell yourself to receive first, then run. You will do just fine!!!
  4. Quote from Purple4Ever... COMPLAINERS SOON BECOME THE COMPLAINT OF OTHERS! Start believing in the kids instead of gripping. Positive thoughts produce positive outcomes. " I was embarrassed for the team, the coaches and the fans. It was truly a sad situation." I am sure the coaches and the players are "embarrassed" to have fans like this. The players were out there doing there very best. ___________________________________________________________________________ I have been supportive through every game trying to encourage and make something positive out of something so negative, but you can only do so much...the rest is up to them, and the up to them hasn't showed their face.
  5. The thing is when you don't have a lot of talent you have to adjust to what works best as a team. You can't teach it, it's a GOD-GIVEN ability, but you can make adjustments to work with what you have. We are trying to run something that the kids aren't talented enough for. It's a down year for us and I am saddened by the fact that we can't get a little something going.
  6. I have no comments! :-X I am still sick about last night! :'( >
  7. Great stadium Dayton, but man the advertisement was deadly!!! ;D We stank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what game some of the posters went to see, but offense only looked good the very first four downs. After that we went back to the same ol' crap!!! Defense did ok the first half and after that the whole team looked like they've never seen a football in their life. I was embarrassed for the team, the coaches and the fans. It was truly a sad situation. Good luck to everyone else 'cause the predictions are true...WE WILL BE DEAD LAST!!!
  8. I second that, and you may end up with a job next season!!!
  9. This debate on the kids, the coaches and the community really needs to stop! We need to get behind them and give them 110%-win or lose. I know it's frustrating to watch every Friday night, but there are some good plays that get pulled out of the bag to make it interesting. We could at least root on those times and not harp on the mental mistakes or the coaching. Matthews is still here. I believe everything in life happens for a reason. When God is finished with him at Vidor, then he will take him somewhere else. Until then we need to be proud of where we come from, and like it or not support the man that took on this program. The kids love him and he has been great for them. Some of these kids get more love and attention from him than they do at home. We need to thank him for caring because there aren't that many that do anymore.
  10. I am with you on this one. I was raised in Vidor and now live in Fannett. I attend all Vidor games and love to because I am a Pirate fan for life. What I hate is the uninvolvement (if there is such a word) of the community. The only time they get involved is when they lose. Vidor has been like this for as long as I can remember and you are right... NOTHING will change until they stop being the problem and become the solution.
  11. This topic was meant to root for our team...not tear them down!!!
  12. I have to agree with your post it all comes down to making plays and our kids are just not doing it right now. Dig deep guys its up to you. One more thing. I would love to see our oc throw the ball on first down some.
  13. I'll step up and say I'll give you my heart for the rest of the season if you guys will step up and give what I know you can. Offensive line: Blocking is the key for Roman to get that ball thrown. Roman: Try not to kill your receiver when he's only 20 yards in front of you, unless he is covered by more than one opponent. You have a great arm and a lot of talent. You can hit your mark, just be careful on the throw...it's STRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Receivers: You have to go into the game knowing you can receive that ball no matter how hard it's thrown. You couldn't ask for a better throwing QB. There will be missed attempts, but don't let it get you down. You are good enough to catch the ball. If it works in practice, it will work on the field. Team: It takes everyone working 110% to get the job done. As you saw many times last year, we were the comeback team. Don't let the score or a missed opportunity to score get you down. Life is full of dissappointments. When we learn from these then we succeed. We love you guys so GO GET THE RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. From our side: the ref on your side already called it down , then about 4 seconds later the ref on our side (who hardly paid attention most of the night) sees the ball and rules it a fumble. That's why it was confusing. Yes, it should have been 3rd and 2- I believe- and they repeated the down. It was strange!!! CONGRATS TO NEDERLAND!!! You executed well !!! We have a lot of work, but district is not the time to figure that out. Long season for us...something we already knew from the first game!
  15. Quote from Piratefan... I will take Jeff Mathews over any coach in this area to get his players motivated and ready.I am sure Ol Larry will have his team ready, but Jeff is the best in the business when it comes to getting his team motivated and ready to play.Mathews could go into a nursing home and have come out with 11 old people ready to play, wheel chairs and all. It will be an emotional game for both teams. ___________________________________________________________ I agree 110% on this one, and the nursing home line is a classic!!! GO PIRATES, GO PIRATES, GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Well, I'll say that Vidor will need to improve 110% to pull this one off. The offense only has 4 days to work on those MAJOR MISTAKES we keep making!!! If the mistakes aren't there we could win, but it won't be by much. It could be a difference of 1-3 points. Defense looks good and can hold Nederland's scoring down. Offense needs to block or let Roman do the shotgun method. Don't be surprised to see Vidor's offense to be totally revamped. Matthews likes to surprise everyone...including his own fan support! I'll go with: Vidor 17 Nederland 14
  17. I thought it was good. This is on the Vidor High School Athletic website.
  18. According to the UIL Sportsmanship Manual, sportsmanship is character displayed through athletic competition. The UIL further defines sportsmanship with their "Six Pillars of Character": trustworthiness respect responsibility fairness caring citizenship The UIL Sportsmanship Manual and the rules for District 22-4A list these expectations for acceptable behavior by student groups and by spectators: always provide positive support for your team, rather than intimidating or ridiculing the other team. assist cheerleaders with yells, chants, etc. and be a working part of pep rallies with preparation, organization, and involvement. treat opposing players, coaches, spectators, and support groups with respect and enthusiasm. conduct yourself in an exemplary manner. Remember that you represent your school both at home and away. respect the integrity and judgment of the game officials. Treating them with respect, even if you disagree with their judgment, will reflect positively on your team and school. be an exemplary role model by positively supporting teams in every manner possible, including content of cheers and signs. remember that school athletics are a learning experience and that mistakes are sometimes made. a ticket is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious. learn the rules of the game so that you may understand and appreciate when certain situations take place. recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team. refrain from the use of any controlled substances before, during, and after the game on or near the site of the event. be a positive role model at events through your own actions and by censuring those around you whose behavior is unacceptable. Some of us could read and learn from these morals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Everyone predicts Vidor as dead last, but don't be surprised to see us upset some teams this year. Matthews loves it when they predict us last. He can sure motivate the guys to a win. We are known to make the schedule as real mess in the last 2-3 games.
  20. ' "In that time I have acquired tons of knowledge about the game of football, contrary to whatever those Vidorians believe." ' I am so glad you know so much about the game of football RING. What you have failed to learn through your career is respecting us Vidorians. You took one persons comment and turned it into how the whole town believes. Vidor is sick of all the ccomments and gestures everyone deals. I realize there are comments made from certain peoples over here, but it doesn't mean the whole town shares the same ideas. Sometimes you need to post privately to the person you want to make the comment instead of making it public knowledge.
  21. Where did that come from????????? I hate to tell you this, but we happen to LOVE Coach Matthews. It's not about winning year after year. It's all about how well you play the game-which includes R-E-S-P-E-C-T and D-E-D-I-C-A-T-I-O-N. It's been a long time since Vidor has had anyone half as decent as Matthews. So...if we lose it hurts, but the boys know they played well and gave it their best. If you want to ditch the Pirates go ahead, but at least do it in the privacy of your own home. Maybe then someone will listen to your crap!
  22. It's your comments like the ones above that get you the overating on this poll. Thanks for this. You are right. Can't take Vidor lightly, you never know if we are going to have a good night. Matthews loves the fact we are last in the polls. It makes a great challenge for him and he is a great motivator for the kids. He will pull some upsets this year. (And no, I am not talking just about Nederland.)
  23. Thanks PURPLE4EVER. Vidor hardly ever gets nice comments. We may not have a lot of talent nor an outstanding team, but we have heart. We do "FACE THE GIANTS" all season long, and we compete with the best of them. Just like playing Nederland last year. We were behind, but because of heart we came back and won that game. Those boys wanted that game and it will be a game to remember for many seasons to come.
