Year over year comparisons are meaningless.  You and I already had this discussin on Abbot labs.  If a basketball player is averaging 2 points per game and then starts averaging 4 points per game, you can make a headline that says " Player increases point production by 100%"  Sound good but isnt
4 points is better than 2 and more profit is better than less, however you try to spin it.
The markets dont spin anything.  They give a very unbiased, non political opinion.  In their opinion, the company is worth about a third less than when it came out.  Funny that you, of all people, would say more profits are good.  You didnt seem to think that about Abbot Labs
You seem to have forgotten parts of that conversation.  I don't mind profits, I just don't want to give tax breaks to companies who fire Americans and hire overseas.
But you seem to defend GM and the volt subsidies when GM is doing this: [Hidden Content] One quote in particular: "It's an almost impossible dilemma," said former labor secretary Robert B. Reich, now a professor at the University of California-Berkeley. "GM is a global company -- so for that matter is AIG and the biggest Wall Street banks. That means that bailing them out doesn't necessarily redound to the benefit of the U.S. or American workers.

He is putting kids in front of scouts, not an easy thing to do.
Agree 100%.  Why are people so quick to shoot holes in a guy trying to help out local kids?  Might the costs paid help defray the costs of bringing all these scouts in?  In case you haven't heard, the State of Texas, along with many other states, are cutting the budgets of most universities.  Which directly impacts athletic budgets.  So to get a gathering of all these scouts, maybe he has to offer to pay some of their expenses?  The "what's in it for him" is that by gathering all these scouts, maybe he can get a full combine, so he can scout players for his college. Funny how so many people are quick to take credit for a kids success on this board.  But criticize those who legitimately give a kid opportunities.  DaBears-if people listened to you, no one would get recruited.  Just send out e-mails and wait for them to come to your high school game? (perhaps a high school coach?)  Insane.  To get recruited today, not only do you have to have talent, you have to be seen.  Being seen today, means being in the right place at the right time.  Unless you have a kid on your high school team throwing low 90's or an athlete who is a legit 5 tool player, or be playing against one of these types of players, you won't get seen just by playing high school ball.  Of the 2011 class who signed on to play college ball, very few did it by just playing high school ball.  They were seen with their select team playing in a summer tournament, they were seen at a college prospect camp, they were seen at one of these combines, they were seen at one of the Monday night games that Fackler runs, and they were seen at a Perfect Game, or simlar camp.  In order to be seen, you need to attend these combines, you need to go to as many college prospect camps as possible, you need to get on a summer team that travels to college venues, or close to college venues.  All of which, cost money.  As a parent, you have to determine if the benefit out weighs the cost. There isn't one magic bullet to being seen, then ultimately getting a scholarship.  It is a long and arduous process that involves a little luck and a lot of hard work.  Coach Harrington is simply giving kids another option to "being seen".  Is that so bad?
Good post!
