Who Will Be The Best Team In SETX??

I am hearing that Brook  only has about 80 kids in spring practice.  Sounds like the new transfer program is about to end the run of Forest Park...I mean west Brook.
The Brook lost a great coach in Stump...that will affect #s and morale.  New system, etc, etc...

To the game vs Brook and WOS, Nederland.  I'd take WOS coached by Hooks over a lot of 5A teams, including the Brook.  Once again, WOS today minus Hooks, not so sure.

To Neumann vs the Brook TODAY, I'd put my Dogs on top in this one.  If it was Stump vs Neumann, it would be a coin toss.

Dogs, Ozen, PNG, even Vidor would give Brook a run for their money any season.  Size is good, talent is better and speed kills and coaching makes a huge difference in hs football and baseball.

the Brook lacks a lot of the discipline that the 20 4 A teams have.

PA Mem is a tough matchup for any school.  They have speed, talent and size.  I do miss playing the Lincoln and TJ teams back in the day.  Always good games vs Ned.  I do believe it would be too much for 20 4A vs PA Mem.  If PA Mem took all of their factors and added 20 4A discipline we would be talking about a PowerHouse FB team in our area, year in out.
I think for you to say that Nederland would beat West Brook based on coaching is a little off.  You don't have a gage on how coach Flannigan will do at West Brook. He has more to work with at West Brook than at Crosby.  The jury is not out yet on how Flannigan will do.

The Brook lacks discipline?  Are you in reference to the
West Brook from the last 7 or 8 years or the West Brook prior to that?  They've been a well disciplined team for almost a decade now.  Where is your information comming from? Also, last I've remembered, the last time West Brook Played Nederland, the score was a little lopsided in favor of that 'undisciplined' team.  Ironically enough, that was the last time that they played.  Makes you say hmmmm...

Brook may be down this year.  I guess it's a little early to say, but numbers don't look good.  that said, I don't know why anybody would think that local 4A teams(or 3A)  would have handled Brook over the last several years.  Was Ned that much better than Central?
Last year?  Definatly yes.  But you can never really tell.  Yall beat us by a score last year...  Before R. Mitchell went down.  Nederland beat us without Mitchell with the backup QB getting his first start.  so, you can never really gage the head to head matchup from last year.

I think it's hard to gage Nederland, because they played several teams last year without their best player. They will be good, but just how good they will be will be determined early, with the Brook and Vidor. Can't take anything from them, they won 20-4A championship but this will be a different year. I'm excited for it to start so we can find out who will do what. Gonna be a great year for football. 8)

Alto And San Augustine cant hold a candle to any of the Top teams in SETX (WO-S, Westbrook, PA memorial, Nederland,) and they shouldnt be able to by all accounts but to be the best in the area you have to be able to say you can go to every teams district and compete with everyteam.
k then by your determination Westbrook is the best team is SETX because no one has the athletes to deal with westbrook is SETX.

No 3/4a team could handle West Brook but that's because of sheer size. I think this is more about which team do you think will do the best in general vs there competition.
Hold on so you dont think WO-S or Nederland could stick with Westbrook for 4 quarters and IMO possibly beat them.. Westbrooks starting Wideout from this past year Robert Redd was a 2nd string defensive end at WO-S his junior year what does that tell you?? IMHO WO-S and PA Memorial has the athletes in the area Westbrook is 3rd in that department, Westbrook has the size and Nederland has great coaches..
Westbrook would destroy WOS or Nederland. You can not be serious. You lose all credibility.

have you ever played football before WOS can play with ANYBODY in setx no doubt about it.. You lose all credibility with your lack of football knowledge

If they can play with the 4A and 5A teams, why do they routinely get beat quickly in the 3A playoffs? WOS may have a few talented players but they cant match up with the larger schools on a consistent basis. They may be able to get up occasionally for some of the 4A but not week end and week out. WOS is not even the best 3A team in SETX.

Brenham will start the season ranked #3 in the state, finish the season ranked #3 in the state, then take an early exit out of the playoff's ;)
I don't believe they will make the playoffs this year, maybe the next year.
No....They'll make playoffs without a doubt, but the district is going to be Very weak. The top teams lost a ton of talent across the board. Brenham has the best chance to reload simply because of the D1 pipeline they have. I think the 4 playoff teams will be (in no particular order): Brenham, Montgomery, Magnolia West, and Huntsville.

Even though they've done it with Nederland.

They've proven there ability with constancy. Coldspring hasn't.

Here are a few records to back me up.

Here's there record with LCM (a 4A school incase you didn't know)

Here's another one with a 3A school Jasper

http://www.setxsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=74008.0

Last year they took the 20-4A district champs to overtime and came very very close to winning. I think that speaks for itself.

What has Coldspring done against the greats of SETX?

coldspring beat WOS last year in playoffs. So that would make them better than WOS advancing all the way to the semi's i believe. The year before that they played for the state championship. Do not get me wrong WOS is very good, but the simple fact is Coldspring is better.

The past 4 years yes Coldspring has had the upper hand but lets check consistency here. Who has been consistently good?

True WOS has been a better program over time, but i think, this is just my opinion, that Coldspring is the best small school team is setx this year, so they have the best chance of beating the other teams like WB. Not saying that they would, but i think they have a better chance. Just because WOS has been better in the past that does not mean that they are better in the present.

hate to disagree with ya two cents, but the WOS of now in no way compares to the WOS of old. I know, I played against them. Today, Coldspring is the better team and they have proved it. I saw the playoff reel. As far as SETX, seriously, who is gonna match up with PAM? And don't say Westbrook(not this year).

WOS is everyone's favorite example of a team dropping from 4A to 3A and not dominating 3A. It also is worth noting that the 4A teams of SETX are generally among the weaker districts of 4A. The 4 playoff teams in PAM's district are light years beyond WOS and it should not really be up for debate.

Ok, I'll give Coldspring the past couple years. Great team with great coach. However, the Cinderella seasons end this year for the Trojans. CS has been consistent for 2 years.....WOS has been consistent for 30. I'm not a scholar but that's a little difference. Trust me, the Mustangs are just the same as "old". Thompson is a mirror of Hooks. A hall of fame coach leaves, and we make it to the quarter finals with a "new" coach. I'll give CS props because they have had great teams but consistency is not the Trojans.

There is no doubt that all in all WOS is the better team as far as history and past expeirence goes. I do not know if CS will be better worse or the same this next year being that they lost a great group of seniors. However as of late there has been no shortage of athletes in Coldspring and i do not see any reason why their will not be people to step up and replace those lost to graduation. With all that being said you are right in most of the things you said, and if this thread means the best teams overall then WOS is better than Coldsprings, but if it means this last year, then Coldsping is the winner.

Here's another one with a 3A school Jasper

With all that being said you are right in most of the things you said, and if this thread means the best teams overall then WOS is better than Coldsprings, but if it means this last year, then Coldsping is the winner.

i believe it is asking who will be the better team this year. not sure if by classification or overall.

Just an outsiders opinion but WOS has everyone in SETX beat on consistency. We deal with a team that has the same consistency everyear in all sports in Brenham. About the only team I can think of to give them a run for their money over time. But of course their not SETX!!  :)
