Not sure on final score but Jasper over Vidor something like 14-5 or 15-4. Pino hits a 3 run hr over left field wall for a 3-1 lead. Close game while starters are in and I had to leave and come back to see late pitchers with walks and hbp's. Jasper will live by small ball this year with timely hits and walk/steal combo's. Dog's did better than expected but this was definately no Hester/ Sowell matchup type game. Good to see some HS action and see the Dog's new faces get some field time. Go Dog's 2011.

This summer a group of players put together by Rangers scout Randy Taylor (It was mostly a hitting group) played two "games" against San Jac and a team out of Louisiana. In the game against Louisiana, he was 91-92. Needless to say, there was alot of chatter in the stands.

Dog's looked good for their first game. Walker looked good behind plate. All the pitching looked good, a few mistake's in the infield. Good base running is going to help them. Well coached team, they should go a long way. Good Luck to the DOG'S  GO JASPER!!!

There were several scouts there on Tuesday. Gabby was 91-93 consistently. Topped out at 94. Lamar might want to make other arrangements. ;D

[/quote]i know the pirates are carrying 3 or 4 talented freshman with the varsity for the scrimmages. the starters didn't play much either. BUT, vidor should have more depth than jasper. those second tier players need to step up. jasper always fields a good team, they just don't usually have the depth due to numbers.

He could have gone to a Juco but most clubs will not pay big money to a kid that is going Juco... they can draft him next year and wait and see what he does... or see if he gets hurt they are not losing money because they have not paid him..
you can get drafted and not sign... just means if the kid decides to go pro by aug. they have the rights to him....
If you go D1 you are not eligible for the draft till you are a JR...
now Gabby has already signed with a D1 school.. Lamar... this could be a power move on his part.... a club is going to have to pay him big money or lose him for 3 years..

bottom line a club has to shell out big money to get him for the next 3 years.. and really big money is 60,000+  and 4 years to any college he wants...
lots of club offers will put the college thing in.... so the kids see they are not really losing money...

You are draft eligible after your junior year or when you turn 21....which ever comes first.  As in Purke's case, he will draft eligible after his soph. year @ TCU. Many kids that project high, sign with a D1 and a JUCO. Check your pms.

I think HITMAN had it right...he's saying that have the rights of the drafted player until the signing deadline....not draft and follow like it used to be.

The 25K per year of school left is very often thrown in.......most kids never use it...unfortunately.
This basically replaces the draft and follow.
JMO, and wouldn't consider $60K big money, especially after Uncle Sam gets his greedy hands on it.  ;)
