Not being able to beat an upper classification team means you aren't better than that team.
[/quote]

The point is we do not get the opportunity to even try, since no 5A will ever schedule a 1A team. But each classification has to beat who they are in the class with. The teams in AA or AAA ball never get to play in the MLB World Series, but they get to compete for the championship of their league. We are 1A and being the best 1A is what we shoot for.

Now for a final question is being the state champion in 1A better than being a district champion in any other class that gets knocked out short of the state title? Just a question.

Winning the a state title is a huge accomplishment and the boys should be very proud no matter what the classification.  The coaches have recognized Evadale as the best 1A team in the state, but that does not mean they could compete with the bigger schools in the area.

I've only seen Evadale play once. It was a few years ago against Nederland's JV that was comprised mostly of freshman.  Nederland knocked out their All State picher in the 2nd inning and went on to win the game easily.

The other game that I know of against a bigger school was against WOS last year.  WOS was a 3rd place team that barely made the playoffs and beat Evadale 11-0 in 5 innings.  They will get another shot at a better WOS team this year, so maybe they will prove me wrong.

I wish Evadale the best of luck and hope they win state, but when it comes to being on of the best 5 or 10 teams in the area,  I just don't see it.

I know Crosby will be tough with Gabby on the mound.  He should be one of the top pitchers in the area this year.  Who's their #2?

What does BH have coming back?

Rebel Yeller, this entire area has always been a strong baseball area. People can talk about football, basketball, but this has been a baseball hot bed for a while and continues to be. I don't think anyone is trying take anything away from Evadale, but I think they wouldn't hang with about 15 other schools in this area. IMO, I don't think they would beat the majority of schools in 19-4A or 20-4A, and that's not including several of the 3A schools around here or 5A schools. It's hard to compare when they don't pplay each other, but I guess maybe ya'll can try to get into some tournaments in the future. Good luck to Evadale this year.

Crosby's #2 would be Willie Hebert, good curve and good pop on his fastball. Their #3 would be a lefty, Billy Upshaw. Hebert is good, I wouldn't look past him, that's for sure.

I honestly see Livingston as that 5th place team. Not quite enough to get in the playoffs.

although i hope we are both wrong, that's probably a good asessment...we should be more competitive this year..if we catch a few breaks, maybe we could move up a place or two...

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
