Pflugerville Hendrickson  5
PNG Lady Indians          0

Whoa!  Ran into a Freight Train!  Knew Hendrickson would be a tough...returning their entire team from a successful 2010 season and the district MVP!  What I didnt know was that they would add a freshman who is an absolute phenom and as a "soccer" fan....was a joy to watch!  (that was hard to say) being an Indian Fan!  #77 Mikaela Harvey was incredible!  As I asked what "Club" team she played for? I was told that she was a member of the U14 National Team and invited to participate with the U15 National Team!  For you soccer fans out there...you know that means she is one of the top players in the nation for her age and it showed!  Great job Girls for fighting till the end!

Harvey Strikes Again!
Oct 11 2010 - Lonestar Staff
Mikaela Harvey continues to impress!  She was a standout for the u14 National Team event in Carson, California.  Harvey has now been called up to the u15 National Training Camp, November 19-25th, in Sunrise, Florida.  Michelle French, who ran the U14 camp, spoke highly of Harvey, saying, “She’s really mobile in her ball skills & individual techniques. To have someone that has that great control of the ball in the midfield is particularly really helpful to connect passes; her ability to relax when she has the ball is a great asset she carries.”

Kelly record: 8-2

For the second time in two days, the Lady Dawgs take down a ranked 5A side. Yesterday, Kelly beat the Chronicle's #5 rated team, 5A Clear Springs in a shootout. Today, the ladies overwhelmed the Chronicle's #4 ranked team FB Austin with six goals in a shutout. That earns them the right to face #3 ranked and defending 5A state champs, The Woodlands.
First a disclaimer: FB Austin had several key injuries. Having said that; I don't think it would have mattered. So many things went well for Kelly, it is difficult to list them all. They simply dominated this team which went undefeated last year until late in the UIL playoffs.
Defense first; evey time Austin got close, they were shut down by a Madeline Horning led back line and solid keeper play. Offensively, the Lady Dawgs first goal was a throw in from the side headed by Lauren Zeto who headed it to Zuri Prince who also headed it to the feet of Mary Ellen Zummo for a crisp goal. Beautiful. Next was a cross field give and go from Prince to Claire Dykeman back to Prince for a high net strike from the right side. Afshar scored on an assist from Prince. It was 3-0 at half and essentially over. Kelly had 5 corners and one direct kick to Austin's one corner. The Austin goalie played well and had double digit saves. Kelly easily controlled the second half.

Not a tournament score but nevertheless,
WB-2
Lumberton-2

Lumberton was fast and hungry for the ball.  WB is still trying to work out the kinks of their new formation.  Hopefully, it gets worked out before district begins as they looked sloppy last night.  We were lucky to come out with a tie.

Kelly............0  1  1
Cy Creek......1  2  3

Kelly goal: Yasmine Afshar
Kelly assist: Zuri Prince
Kelly saves: Stephanie O'Neal(6) Chelsea Reid(4)

Kelly record: 8-4

The Woodlands game was great. The Dawgs took last year's 5A state champs to the 76th minute before the go ahead goal. It was a competitive, even match. Tremendous experience to contest one of the top teams in the state on their home fileld. Just a privelege to watch.
Cy Creek in not ranked but they will be. They looked as strong as any team in the tournament. They won two games and lost to perenial powerhouse Round Rock McNeil 2-1 before the last game. Kelly looked tired and did not play to the level it had in the first three games of the tournament. Cy Creek controlled most of the game.
To recap, in three days, Kelly beat the Chronicle's #4 and #5 ranked area teams and lost 2-1 to the #3 team in Greater Houston. Quite a run. Congratulations girls

That should be 8 saves for O'Neal aga. Woodlands. Don't know how that smiley got there.

For some reason, the 8 and the closing parens is the same as that type of smiley.  That's why I usually use brackets instead of parenthesis.

Very Proud of Lady Dawg's performance over the last few days... They came out and weathered a barrage of shots early in the first half from The Woodland's lady Highlanders... Then on a well executed cross and finish by Tara Austin Kelly drew first blood... Early in the 2nd half The Dawgs were back in the Highlander's box when Yasmine Afshar put a perfect through ball into Prince's feet.. The goalie did all she could to prevent a 2nd goal and put a hit into the back of Prince that would have made Lawerence Taylor jealous and certainly would have drawn a fine from Roger Goodell... I mean a full body NFL form tackle taking Prince to the ground. and NO whistle.. every one was stunned and as we were lulled to sleep by the blatant miss call the Lady Highlanders went the full length of the field and tied the game. Well as Watash said it went another 36 minutes and finally the Highlanders went ahead... Great GAme!

The Lady Dawg's did give a very uninspired effort to Cy Creek and got rewarded for it.. A good ol' fashion butt kicking.

St Agnes ( Kelly's District nemesis) took the 5A Champs through the full game to a 0-0 draw and lost 2-1 in a shoot out... The aforementioned goalie stuffed 3 shots with shooter attached and redirected the other two... She was a beast and a pleasure to watch! Kelly looks to be tuned up and ready for the play-offs
