Question about Barbers Hill...

I seem to remember back in our hey day Barbers Hill playing in the dome following our game and if my memory serves me right I seem to recall BH having steady success in the playoffs for a few years then like us they seemed to disappear from the playoffs. What are their previous playoff successes and what led to their demise?

Guest Two-Dogs...
I was in the entrance to the Fieldhouse (Gym) the other night and noticed a LOT of trophies in the display casses in the front lobby. I began to walk around and read a few of them. There were football trophies, basketball trophies, baseball trophies, track and field trophies and other trophies as well. State championship trophies, district champion trophies and such. All of those trophies all over that lobby had one thing in common. That was that they were all won in the AAA category of schools. Looked to me like the hill was a powerhouse among the 3A schools but unfortunately grew into a bigger much more challenging bracket and as of yet have been unable to find similar success at this new level. That last part is pure conjecture but the logical evidence was overwhelming.

JMHO but looks like at one time among the 3A's The Hill was for Real! ;)

Those were probably from the 70's when the Hill won state in 2A(now 3A).  They did go 3 rounds back in '98 but didin't do much in the 80's or early 90's....

the Hill never won a state championship in 2A. They won a co-championship and a state championship as a 1A school.

I remember a day when ATM machines functioned in ONLY english and people waved when you passed them on the highway.  Yea, BH has a lot of trophies, and YES that is far more, in every sport, than any other current school in region III.  The new expansion will inlude a buiding for all the new and future trophies, as well as a lead time capule for the ugly ars uniforms that started it all.

I was scouting BH this year and a woman that works for the district told me that the uniforms they wore this year were the same as uniforms that BH wore in 1957. It was intentional. I am old school, but I kinda liked 'em.

It was the 54-57 uniforms

BH's last really good team was the one that lost to Central in bidistrict (I believe 2006).  The talent pool after that season really ran dry and the level of competition in 4A eventually led to Price ending up in Hamshire Fannet.  Gage does have better talent to work with (lots in the freshmen and sophomore class).  Unfortunately for BH fans, they are still a step behind the Broncos (just looking at head to head games from 7th grade up).  BH will get better, but still won't have enough oomph to make a playoff run, unless they get seeded like the 24-4A teams did this year with bye weeks playing HISD schools.

Oh you had to make that 24-4a dig about the HISD playoff matchup. But that only gets you to round three. We have to win a very tough round one.  We can make it past round 3 in 24-4a quite often and also seem to do quite well vs 20-4a and 19-4a!! BH does not stand much of a chance if they have to play 20-4a every year first round. Good luck vs LM - yall should win, but you never know with LM!

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad? Ā The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they canā€™t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.Ā  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.Ā  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Letā€™s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didnā€™t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum Ā  So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)? Ā What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wildā€¦ at least in your mind?Ā
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, donā€™t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Yā€™all had 2 EARNED runs. Ā Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didnā€™t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
