Mid County Madness History

PN-G vs. Big Ned.  Indians vs. Bulldogs.  Purple and white against black and gold.  15,000 fans jam packed into the 13,000 seat Reservation.  College game atmosphere.  "Mid-County Madness".  All that and more describes the 85 year rivalry between the Port Neches-Groves Indians and Nederland Bulldogs.

Since 1925 the Indians and Bulldogs have battled for the bragging rights of the area nestled between Beaumont and Port Arthur Texas known as Mid-Jefferson County or 'Mid County'.  During game week, football in the small towns of Port Neches, Groves and Nederland Texas is backed with a level of enthusiasm that matches any area in the state.  And when game night finally arrives, regardless of the outcome, both teams leave everything on the field until the next meeting.

PN-G leads the series 47-31-7.

I got some friends who moved to the area from Florida. The have been hearing about MCM Madness and wanted to know the history. Their was a CD put out a couple of years ago and it had some of the old players and coaches talking about it. Does anybody know where I might find a copy of it. Mine was lost in one of the Hurricanes. Thanks....

Call the administration building.  I'm sure they will be able to give you some information about where to get a copy.

That's alot of history !!! Is there any other rivalry older than PNG and Nederland ?

Well, as far as oldest, that would be Jasper/Silsbee. They started playing each other in 1922. But, Ned/PNG have played more games against each other. This year wiil be the 86th meeting between the two Mid county schools. Silsbee/Jasper will be playing their 72nd contest between the two.

Reagan Hawkins, teacher at NHS, produced the DVD you are asking about.  It was titled  "Bragging Rights" and was very well done.  Contact him at the HS if you wish to purchase one.

Indians will take it this year. we should have won last year and didn't. but don't worry. the Indians will scalp them Bulldogs!

GO INDIANS!!!!

Should have won last year?! Y'all lost by 20!

He means, well I don't know what he means.  We gotted "handled" in that game to say the least.  All I can reason is that us PNG fans think we should be Ned every year no matter what.  And I'm sure the Ned fans feel the same way about PNG!
