2003 Area Round: Orangefield vs La Grange at Pasadena Memorial Stadium....

Game is tied at 14 and the Cats have a first and 10 at around the La Grange 10 yard line with just a few minutes left. Common sense says run the ball three times and if you don't get in kick the field goal and you advance to the third round of the playoffs, a place OF has never been. On first down we throw an out route and it is intercepted at the La Grange 3 yard line. The very next play the Leopard QB takes the snap and rolls to his right side, the entire defense goes that way too and he cuts it back to the left and takes it down the far sideline to about the OF 20. They run a few plays and with 3 seconds left kick the game winning field goal to win 17-14. If we had just RAN the ball and kicked, chances are we would have won the game.

The Bay City LB hadn't guessed the snap count to perfection and stuffed J. Ramoin on the last play of the game from inside the 1 yd. Line... Nederland would've likely had a State Championship to go along with it's current run. Instead we get to hear the rest of the area talk about how we haven't won an outright district championship.

What if......we hadnt had the worst turnover game prolly in Mustang history against Silsbee in 98. What if it wasnt raining? What if I wouldnt have fell down kicking that extra point???

There are many things that could be what if. The main thing is that it takes a great person to pick themselves up after a situation and goes on to have a successful college career.

The bigger "what if" in that game, to me, is what if Nederland would've just went with a QB sneak inside the 1 yard line instead of a handoff.

In '83 we would've made an extra point or kick a successful fieldgoal, or that damn Todd Higganbottom would've jumped offsides while we were driving inside Sweeny's 20 yard line late in the 4th quarter......

We could've gotten our butts handed to us by Dangerfield instead of Sweeny :lol::lol::lol:

Kelly would do well in 3A. I can remember them giving some 4A schools a hard time a few years back when George Eskew was the head Coach.

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!

    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
