Buna Scores 8 Runs In The Sixth, Beats Hemphill 9-8

The Buna Cougars go up 1-0 in their Class 2A Regional final series against the Hemphill Hornets.

Buna got on the board first in the second inning. The Coogs had runners on the corners with two outs when they tried to pull a double steal, the runner at first hung up the Hornet's shortstop long enough on the throw down to advance the runner on third for the game's first run.

The Hornets would respond with a run of their own in the top of the 4th inning.

Then in the fifth, Hemphill erupted for four runs, to take a 5 to 1 lead.

In the bottom half of the fifth, Buna swung on three consecutive first pitches, helping the Hornets cruise to an easy 1-2-3 inning.

Hemphill would add three more runs to go up be 7, and Buna seemed to be out of game 1.

Then the rally started in a big way for Buna, behind the fans who never quit shaking their noise makers and chanting for the team.

Buna erased a sever run deficit to come from behind and win 9-8 on a Kolby Baxter base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. That hit capped off an eight run inning, placing the Cougars one game away from the state semifinals next weekend.

Buna was slow getting started on there bats, but they made up for it in the 6th. Hempill played an error-free game. Buna had errors,  but they never got down on themselves. They love the noise makers and the stands were PACKED. We are all so proud of you guys!! Congrats Coogs.  Hempill, yall played a great game.  Congrats to the Sr.s of both teams on your graduation tommorrow night.  Again...........  CONGRATULATIONS BUNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
