  1. Bumping to the top of the page with the same request:  Tryout dates and locations for the 2010 season. Also, is there anyone in Groves or close that wants to play as well?  I need to get throwing pretty soon to get in shape for pitching, so here's hoping that someone wants to start throwing as well.
  2. I can concur on the amount of money being tossed around at both JUCO and D1, and the original poster is correct, not much is handed out.  Here are some guidelines: 1.  Good Grades - academic scholarships are out there, through the potential school and other third-parties. 2.  Ask about work study programs. 3.  Ask the questions about what is covered and what isn't.  Ask about other scholarships that are available. 4.  Fill out your Pell grant paperwork early and get it in.  Even if you think you won't quality, you'd be surprised. 5.  Diligence.  Stay on top of grades, paperwork, etc.  Make sure they file with the NCAA clearinghouse.  Call these coaches and ask them if they would try your kid out. Between academic, athletic, pell grants and third-party scholarship money, athletes can attend school in-state at a bare minimum of expense from the parents.  I was able to get a 25% scholarship (baseball), work study and Pell grant money and out of pocket was less than $1,500 a year.  An Associate's degree later, and "beisbol has been berry berry good to me".
  3. Anybody interested in a database for this?  I'll create it and host it on my web hosting.
  4. Make that 4 straight. 60k's over the 4 no-no's. Just saw it on SportsCenter. The national record for high school no-hitters in a row is 6.
  5. Thanks Shly, please post them, I'm sure many want to check it out.
  6. Is the league playing this year? The tryout dates on the website aren't correct, and the forms page doesn't work.
  7. 1. Saw the longest homerun in a juco game at a double-a ballpark, an armpit high 88-mph fastball hit by a teammate named Josh Early. It hit the top of the light standard in left center and had just reached it's highest point when it slammed the standard at the top (375 to the fence in the gap). Pic of the stadium here. He hit over 25 home runs in a 35 game schedule, but alas, could not hit a curveball but would always swing at them. 2. Was lucky enough to play on more winning baseball teams than losing ones from little league through JUCO. 3. Played with or against about 25 guys that played some form of pro ball, including a few that made it to the show. 4. Saw a shortstop take a line drive to the top of the head the year before -5 bats became illegal to use in JUCO conference. He was playing halfway with a guy at second and third and a left hander smashed an outside fastball at him. Couldn't get a glove up in time, ball hit him in the high forehead area and went 20 ft. up in the air. Removed a piece of hair and skin. 5. Hope the steriods don't ruin my favorite game. When I was in JUCO, about 6 of my team mates did a cycle or two of deca during the summer. They were on the cusp of getting into a decent D1 school and felt they needed it to make that jump. Half were pitchers trying to recover quicker and make more appearances, not people trying to bulk up and smash baseballs.
  8. Can anyone provide roster information for the Buna 2008 team? A video clip mentions 7 returning starters, so things are looking good already for next year.
  9. Coach Terrier was an assistant when I went through there and was always very knowledgable. I'm glad for the boys and hope they keep going on their current pace. Here is the local newspaper for where the Corsicana team is from. If there are any Buna players or coaches on here, I think it would be a good idea to read all the articles about the baseball team, specifically the part about the starting pitcher is their ace, but has thrown over 200 pitches in the last few days. Might want to try to extend him and get him out of the game if possible. I believe these articles may help formulate a scouting report. [Hidden Content]
  10. Buna wins 9-8 after scoring 8 in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Hillin pitches a complete game.
  11. The '96 team was very good as well. Started nine seniors for most district games, had numerous all-district (24-3a) selections and three all-state selections (Smith 1st Team, Hillin 3rd Team and Farr Honorable Mention) and Flanagan went on to some pro ball. Lost to Mexia in a single game regional semi round. Had there been 3-game playoffs at that time, I don't think anyone could match up to Smith and Flanagan as starting pitchers.
  12. I can fix you up, it is what I do. I'll send you a PM with some contact info. I can set up a remote connection that you would instigate that would allow me to control your PC and find your files. Once it is done, you can stop the remote access and everything is back to the way it was.
  13. Beau Hale (HS) Jason Tyner (HS) Solomon Johnson (HS) Chip Ambres (HS) Josh Early (Ranger College) (Watched him hit a ball to the top of a light standard in the LC gap of a AA ballpark 375' + 120' standard) Brian Saches (Lamar)
