Kirbyville jumping East Chambers in the poll shocks me

I agree that they should be ahead of us, but I don't think we actually jumped them...did we? I think they started off ranked really low and we started off high and after our loss, combined with their winning, it just closed the gap.

Even in that scenario Region I would still be the toughest. According to rankings Region III would have more, but Region I would still be deeper. From teams 10-32 Region I is deeper than anyone else. That makes a difference.

We just have to disagree on that. Of the 14 titles from region 1 teams the last ten years, 11 have been won by Trinity, Carroll, Cedar Hill and Allen. Abilene has one but they're not necessarily an elite squad and the two Guyer has were won in the old 4A. Other than Katy the next three title favorites do reside in region 1 but IMO it doesn't make it deeper.

If you look at the last 10 years like you say the DFW as a whole, which encompasses regions one and two, has played for seventeen 6A titles while only region three has played for fifteen. The last time our region two teams made the finals were '04 with Westfield and '03 when The Woodlands played North Shore.

The Spring district alone had 3 teams play in the regional final, Collins lost to Skyline in the third round and Westfield lost to Cedar Hill in the semis. If you're comparing region 1 with the whole Houston area you don't need to go down to #10, you could start at #5 and it would be deeper IMO.

If the discussion is about what is the toughest region as it was originally than Region I in 6A is hands down the toughest region and come playoffs is one of the toughest 5 regions or sections in the country. Trinity, Carroll, Allen and Cedar Hill are the only ones who have won because they have all ended the season in the top 10 in the nation. There's still Guyer, Desoto, Martin, Abilene, Permian, the Amarillo schools, Fossil Ridge and on and on. You put Desoto in another region the previous 3 years they would be in the state game. Even this year when Desoto has looked terrible, and they may barely make the playoffs, yet they only lost by two to Steele, the best team in Region IV. Region I is deeper than anywhere else.

If you are trying to make the discussion DFW vs. Houston, it is DFW. The Spring District had 3 teams in the regional finals, but that doesn't say anything about which area is better because outside of Skyline, DFWs best are in Region I. 6A is owned by DFW and because of growth it will be owned by Region I for a long time as more and more DFW schools are being placed there. Houston doesn't have elite programs. Outside of Katy and now Manvel there is no consensus on who is going to have a good team each year and be a program that is a threat to win state. Region III teams, Houston teams, make it to the state championship games every year because there are no good region IV teams outside of Steele and Judson. For DFW schools that are contenders their toughest games in the playoffs are weeks 2-4. 5 can be, and in D2 6 is, but for D1 playing a Houston school is basically just the parade game.
