Went to a Hstn.Roast/Toast to honor Bum Phillips.Met Wade along w/many former Hou Oilers.Picked up a Bum Phillips autobiography,a interesting read.Thought I'd share a bit.Hired By Coach Pickell@Ned in 1950 as a assitant coach(rare luxury @ that time)Pickell left Ned and Bum was offered $2,700 a yr and excepted the job of a losing program.Well under Phillips 1951-56 Nederland goes 58-11 and the playoffs 5 of 6 yrs.In 1956 Coach Bear Bryant called Bum and asked him to develop a simple system to call defensive playing schemes/techniques.Bum birthed a system TV commentators call a 2 or 5 technique.If you get a chance Bum's book Coach-Cowboy-Christian is a great life's story 8)

Sounds cool... I think i might just pick up a copy... Last I heard Bum's sister still had her ranch in Vidor out on 4 Oaks Ranch Road...
