  1.   For Carthage Sophomores Jacob Blissett, Austin Williford, Clint Cage, Joey Harrison and Hunter Walden will all make their varsity debuts this spring. Two other sophomores LHP Kody Wright, and Dayton Russell(Dustin Russell -catcher's brother) could also find their way onto the varsity once district starts. Juniors Anthony Morgan ( Starting QB ) and Kendall Thompson (LB) return to the diamond after missing their sophomore baseball seasons due to injuries.
  2. We were told in Waco by both TASO and UIL officials that none of this will take effect until next fall. Everything is a go this spring for all sports. Is this a correct statement?
  3. The pitcher takes his warmup tosses to start the game. The leadoff batter steps in for the first pitch of the game. The hitter is a great bunter but can't hit his butt with both hands. Add to this the coach is mad at the homeplate umpire from a past experience. Is it legal for the coach to pull his catcher out from behind homeplate and position him in full gear ready to field a bunt?   Since no one is on base, you truly dont need him back there until the count reaches 2 strikes. If this is legal, what would you as the homeplate umpire do in this situation?
  4.   In Carthage we feel that we have one of the best Dixie League Youth Programs in the country. When our kids get too old for Dixie League most of them will enter some sort of select league. We play in Dallas, Tyler, Shreveport & Longview. Many kids play both Dixie & Select. Last fall our varsity catcher would leave after his Friday night football game and drive to Dallas to play select baseball on the weekends.   To the best of my knowledge we have never had a jealousy problem with kids & select baseball. It is unfortunate of the cost associated with select baseball but in most cases it is necessary. The exposure the kids get from select baseball is great. 90+% of the time the coaching is excellent and the kids really benefit from the experience.
  5. Carthage High School is looking for 1 team for it's JV tournamnet March 4-6, 2010. It will be a pool play tournament with 4 games guaranteed.   If you are interested or know of anyone who might be please e-mail Jim Goldman @   [email protected]
  6. I feel bad for the family, but whats next?, go after the company that made the baseball that struck the boy. Look out Diamond, Wilson, Rawlings, etc the baseball that you are putting on the market may be too hard.
  7. It's opposite. The visitors play for the win, and the home team for the tie. The reasoning is because if the visitor plays for the tie, and score to tie the game, but then the home team scores in the bottom of the 9th, the visitors never get a chance to hit again, and they get beat.
  8. You need to shave about 600 points off that .900 Carthage batting average. Our overall team batting averege last year was .305. Most teams we faced had averages 50 - 75 points higher than we had. But again, what I have seen through pure repitition, players hit much more in practice than they practice bunting. Against good pitching it seems we are more likely to put the ball in play by swinging the bat than we are bunting the ball. Also certain slots in the lineup are our bunting slots. These players bunt much more in practice than our 3-6 hitters do. Still for me it gets back to one thing and that is,it is very hard to bunt a good pitcher. Add to this if that pitcher can field his position its that much tougher. It is a lost art!
  9. In my opinion and from what I have witnessed it is much harder to bunt good pitching than it is to hit it.
  10. Carthage players play on the weekends in Shreveport, Dallas or both. During the week they play some Tuesday night games.
