  1. TVC I completely agree with and understand your basis.  Ten years ago 6 pt. or better was our first stab at managing.  I can only think of one, maybe two six points that were actually harvested over the past ten years.  Almost all of the bucks harvested were 8pt or better though not necessarily 13" wide.  With the 13" rule there will be some nice 8's that will walk due to lack of width.  We have harvested 2-3 doe per buck in the last couple years.  Several of us manage food plots, mineral sites, protein feeders, etc. but the key factor to a buck's antler growth is age!
  2. The past couple years we have mainly taken doe off our lease with very few bucks.  About ten years ago we started a six point or better rule, but like other lease's who try to manage it is hard to do when bordering leases shoot every buck that walks through.  With the new 13" minimum rule and harvesting more doe from our lease we are seeing more and better bucks compared to the past.  Game cameras allow us to monitor several bucks on our lease; granted some bucks you see during hunting season can be from an outside area due to the amount of land they cover during the rut.  Overall, several of us believe it has only helped with allowing bucks to mature and be able to produce larger antlers and the pictures prove it.
  3. Was in the woods yesterday (between Livingston and Woodville) and seeing some activity but it does not appear they are going good yet.  It is getting close though.  Trail cam pic's along with two bucks we saw during the middle of the day indicate they are roaming around a little more than normal.  They must be hitting the acorns too.  Less activity at the corn/protein feeders.  A little over a week to go and hopefully the weather will cooperate; it was warm and humid Wednesday.
  4. Nederland played in Livingston last year and performed well.  Offensively, Livingston appears to have an aggresive running attack with very little passing.  Hopefully the 'Dogs will have a good offensive game plan for moving the ball and keeping Livingston's offense off the field.  Defensively, play to stop the run and make them beat you by throwing it!
  5. Who you got? Will the Dogs be able to slow down Livingston's running attack and can the offense perform like they did against PN-G?
  6. Nothing mentioned in the paper about Brett Butler.  Will he be suiting out Friday night?
  7. Who will get to start against Vidor at QB for the Bulldogs?  I imagine a lot of people would like to see Dionte in there (if ready) but some may push to allow Carson to continue gaining experience/knowledge and play Dionte at another position?
  8. PA News listed him as out this week due to concussion.  At least the bye week falls before district starts allowing all the ones banged up some time to heal.  They should be full strength against Vidor plus Forney could be back as well.  I say Ned 24 BH 10.
  9. WO-S had several big plays for TD's and plays that got them out of long yardage (3rd & 20+ yds) for 1st downs.  Had Nederland stopped them on some of these maybe the score would have been a little closer but the end result still the same.  I thought Raine's did pretty good considering very little practice time and his first start against such a good/quick defense.  He will continue to improve through the season and only get better over the next couple years.  Next couple years will be exciting to watch.
  10. Here goes the Monday morning quarterbacking.  I think a lot if this reverts back to coaches preparing.  Don't try to run end arounds or beat WO-S outside, it's not going to happen.  Nederland did fairly well between the tackles because the o-line overall had a pretty good night. They  have good size and were not getting pushed in the backfield.  Defense will get better but several missed tackles and giving up big plays.  They seemed to slow WO-S 's offense when they threw in some blitz packages but then stopped blitzing.  WO-S did have some big pass plays but I would have put more emphasis on stopping the run.  WO-S has speed and they utilize it running the ball.  Make them beat you by throwing the ball (which they did) to make any progress.
  11. Dayton will be a good test for this team.  Evidently they have plenty of weapons and speed according to the post's from the WO-S scrimmage.
  12. Lots of pop fly's tonight.  Dogs need to be hitting line drives (like Buda did).  They are capable of doing it, just have to settle down and focus on driving the ball.  It also seems like several are letting good pitches go by while taking cuts at some out of the strike zone.  Buda's pitcher was okay, but Nederland has faced better pitching throughout the season.
  13. What starters does Nederland have coming back along with JV players filling in?  Also, thoughts and opinions on upcoming season?
