Got Silsbee. Should be a good one though. Will this game be broadcasted?

Did they improve any year to year?

That’s the way it seems because they definitely don’t have those type of athletes now. It happens all the time for different reasons. At a small school like that playing 6 man football all it takes is a family with a couple athletes to move into town. 2 or 3 siblings and boom you have a totally different team.

When was the last time a coach stayed at Warren for 5-7 years and did the program show any improvement during his stay? I don’t think you can expect to go from 1-9 to 10-0 in one year or even 5 years in most cases.

Buna isn’t exactly a powerhouse but Buna’s program is in a lot better shape than Warren’s. Burkeville had athletes 10 times better than their opponents during that run.

Talent, will to win, and good coaching make good teams. All that other community wealth, community support, and tradition or whatever helps but it does no good if you don’t at least have a couple talented players and a good coach. At the bigger schools it’s more about coaching. I say that because I think it would be hard to find a school with 2000 plus students and no talent. At the smaller schools it’s more about the players. I say that because there are probably a lot of schools with 200-400 students who regularly have close to 0 talent and no coach would be able to change that. Either way if your goal is to win championships you need talent, will to win, and good coaching.

We have a lot of kids who are excited about basketball each year but the school board is probably more enthused about baseball than basketball. I won’t say there’s always a lot of basketball talent because it depends on what you call “a lot of basketball talent”. But there’s normally enough. Woodville doesn’t do a good job of hiring coaches at all in my opinion. I think they just lucked up and accidentally hired a good football coach because the other one left. This is Coach Evans first year as a head basketball coach and I think they may have accidentally done it again lol. Coach Evans is probably no bball Guru although I’m sure he knows a thing or two. But the important thing is he’s the best man for the job. He’s a guy that loves the game, loves the community, and loves the kids he’s coaching. Any areas he’s lacking in coaching he’ll improve and I think he’ll turn out to be a great coach for the Woodville Eagles.

Yea loosing the turnover battle will do it to you. I don’t think our guards have seen that type of defensive pressure. The 5 man rotation was also a good strategy by the Silsbee coach. We don’t have much depth beyond our starters. Lot of younger guys who may develop into solid players later but not a lot of them are ready to play at that level just yet. That will be a good strategy for Silsbee against most teams in their district also.

Don’t know if he’s even on the roster this year. Not sure what’s going on with that. We still got a decent freshmen and sophomore group though. I think we were missing a key player, probably rely too much on long range shots, and lost effort after getting down by a large margin.

SMH. Lost to Liberty yesterday and now this. Wonder if there’s a key player missing or maybe just not as good as I initially thought. Glad Silsbee seems to be playing well though.

It sucks but it’s a good decision if necessary. Hopefully CS can reschedule the district games they miss during this time frame.
