1.
What was the last year that Deweyville won the title?
the las year deweyville won district was '85. the trophy for district champs is in the hall way in the new HS.
2. my most productive for gun season has been the rainy  days. we all have cell phones and i pull up the radar when its raing. just before it stops raining i go get in my boxblind, and have seen more deer than usual after the rain quits. have killed some good ones this way. good luck to all this season!!!! and take a kid hunting with you!
3. i have bow hunted for years, and i set up 4 different stands, all set up for different wind directions. i test the wind and that lets me decide which stand to hunt. i never use cover scents, with the theory, that i am usually downwind of the deer trails, or trees that are dropping acorns. i usually just rely on acorns, with a little hand scattered corn. tusk boar cover  scent would be good if you have hogs in the area. order it from three rivers archery. put it on your boot soles only. this will keep the deer from smelling  your walk in trail. havent used it in years and still see deer pass my trail and not get spooked. the earlier you get to your stand , the more time your smell hets to dissapate. use dim lights walking in. hope this helps you out in some aspect.
4. deweyville will win this one. west hardin should have picked someone else for homecoming, jmo.
5. tvc,  my bad,  misunderstood you. bearbryant, i wasnt stating head shots as unethical. i dont try them because i had a couple of friends  try it and  hit the deer, but all we found were teeth. never did find the deer they shot and one was a good buck.  i like the lung  area for my shots. if you shoot them in the head and it works for you, more power to you.
6. it looked to me like yall were poking fun at me or didnt believe i could make those shots. sorry if i offended anyone on here. i can and do shoot that far , but it takes a lot of practice and patience. as far as respecting the animals, i am an ethical shooter and wont pull the trigger if i am not sure i take the animal cleanly. and i wont even attempt a head shot, because ive seen a few wounded deer lost and i know they died suffering. this will be my last post on here, so happy hunting everyone.
7. in reply to tvc184 and 643,  i dont care what yall think, i made those shots. if you practice long shots, you can make long shots. i have a 500 yard shot and i see a lot of deer there every year. i dont want to go to camp whining about  'its was too far'! if you cant run with the big dogs, stay on the porch!
8. i have to agree with you Rip, bow hunting is more fun than rifle hunting. anybody can kill deer with a rifle @ 300 yards, but it takes a real hunter to kill them at 5 yards!  i use a Bob Lee recurve now that i purchased  in June. now that the freezer is almost full, its time for it to come back out.
9. a coyote at 468 yards, a doe at 452 yards and this year an 8 point at 292 yards, all with a .270 and the distances were checked with a rangefinder.
10. my son killed a boar last year that was close to 400 pounds and a friend of mine came and picked it up from the lease. he cleaned it and had it processed and said it was very good eating. didnt try it myself as the only pork i care for is bacon. we  shoot them in the head, and have eaten several in the past that were  good.
11. my weapons of choise are the .270, .243, matthew lx compound, and i bought a bob lee recurve 45#. havent connected with the recurve yet  but i like the feel of it.  as far as which gun is the best, i read an article written by a guide  and published in Buckmasters  and he stated that the difference in the distance that the deer ran was only a few yards after being hit in the proper spot with everything from a .243 to a .300 win mag. the advice he gave was to buy  a caliber that you were comfortable shooting and not scared to use. this will allow you to make the proper shot placement and effectively kill the deer. ive seen my boys drop deer in their tracks several times with a .243 and ive seen the same size deer run that i shot with a .270, although they dont go very far. ive been shooting the same .270 since 1984 and i have taken deer out to 450 yards and one coyote at 468 according to my range finder. but i practice long shots in just in case ol big boy wont come in close.
12. i have been on a lease in Newton Texas fo 17 years and we have been managing our deer herd since i have been on it. we shoot our does, and let the young bucks walk. as far as the 13" rule, i was teaching this to my two sons at a very young age. by the time they were 12 and able to hunt by theirselves, they were able to judge the deer and let them mature. when my oldest son turned twelve, i gave him a rifle and his own stand, and he didnt shoot a buck for four years.  when he did it was 4.5 years old, and a nice 9 point. had it mounted and put it on the trophy wall. my youngest son is in school for the navy out in california, and when i talk to him about me hunting his stand, the first thing he says is  " dont shoot my small deer, let them grow up". we have seen the results of this on our lease. and if 12 years old boys can do this on their own, anyone can do it. the results will follow, just give it some time.
13. dont have any idea on who will score first, but i cant wait to see the game. i have ties on both sides of the field so i am going to root for both teams. i just hope that its a good game, and that noone loses any players to injuries.
14. good luck to both newton and kirbyville in the playoffs. i know that some of us down in south newton county will be supporting these two teams. yall take it to em and enjoy the ride.
15. deweyville lost 20-8. amber burks crowned queen and couldnt hear who crowned duchess. was bad 2nd half.
16. thanks for the invite. will have to take you up on that one. havent been to a rice fest yet but looking forward to it!
17. red and white! wont ever change unless we move to the lake or the hill country!
18. They start teaching them at a young age. we start teaching them at a young age here, also, and they do really good in peewee through senior league. our kids usually win really big under these dad coaches, but when they get to junior high, it all falls apart. can anyone tell what the problem is?????
19. it looked like deweyville came to play in one quarter. totally dominated 3rd quarter. too bad they didnt play the whole game that way or they would have won. you boys need to get focused, in a winning attitude, and play hard from the opening. then the wins will show up. one or more of the older players needs to step up and be a leader and get this team motivated!!!!
