Not so fast my friend, what the article didn't tell you was that it is being moved back to State Court.

The Beaumont TASO Umpires puts on a couple of all star games to benefit our scholarship fund. It is for the schools we serve since those are the kids that receive them. This years games will be on June 13th and 14th. There will be two games each night. 1A-3A underclassman, 4A-5A underclassman, 1A-3A seniors and 4A-5A seniors. I do not know the exact schedule yet of which games are on what days. Coaches need to nominate their players for this so ask your high school coach to participate.

Well this was a strange one. There is a book called the OBR which shows the difference in rules between all levels of play. Good book if you do multiple levels. In HIGH SCHOOL FEDERATION RULES you can not go past first on a walk. If you do you risk being put out. In MLB ball you can go past first base on a walk. No wonder there was confusion, depends on what book you look at. Would be nice if all levels had the same rules but some need to be different than the pros especially if it involves safety. I do not know why this one rule about a walk is different.

Now I am getting conflicting reports, Hold on I may have blown that call let me see if I can get a more definitive answer.
-
Actually I just looked it up on the net and the rule book does not specify that you can only over run first on a hit, so yes you can go past first on a walk but make sure just like anytime else that you do not make any type of intenet to go tword 2nd. It is umpires judgement if a runner makes a move to show intent to go tword 2nd so make sure you turn around and walk right back to the bag.

I think he can but I am going to get a ruling from my rules guru out of Dallas

And I'm talking about calls on both sides!!!
They're HS umps for a reason.. Umps are just like players, the better you are.. The higher level you're at.
I was not at this game or know anything about it but... your comment is wrong about the better umpire you are the higher level you call. I know plenty of guys that do not have the time to commit to calling college ball but are plenty good enough to do it. If your day job pays you well and all the benefits that go with it, you don't screw that up taking off work to go call college ball. And yes, I have done both but only call high school anymore and it was my choice no one elses. -
I could write forever on what is a balk. Most of the time it is an action that is not a legal pitch or an action of picking off a runner that a pitcher has used a move that makes him simulate a pitch to the plate. Other things like stepping off of the rubber with your non pivot foot, seperating your hands twice while on the rubber, dropping the ball while on the rubber, not coming to a stop with your hands in the stretch position are just a few things that are a balk. Best thing is for you to read a rule book about pitching or if you want to ask about something specific I will try to answer. Just remember if I wasn't there and it is about a judgement, I may not be able to give you a clear answer. Some things are in the eye of the beholder.

The main part is once the umpire called a dead ball then that is what it is. Once an umpire calls a dead ball or a foul then that is what it is.

This is copied directly from the UIL manual on sportmanship. This is for spectators. You can read the whole manual on the UIL website. Behavior Expectations of Spectators • Always support your team and the efforts of all participants involved. • Do not intimidate or ridicule a player, coach or official before, during or after a contest. • Always praise athletes for their actions during a game; never degrade a participant for their efforts. Athletics are a learning experience for students, and mistakes will be made. • Remember that a ticket is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to verbally assault others or be generally obnoxious. • Learn the rules of the game so that you may understand and appreciate why certain situations take place. • Always respect the integrity and judgment of officials. They are present to regulate the flow and enforce the rules of the game. • Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators and support groups. Treat them as guests to your school. • Use only cheers that support and uplift the teams involved.• Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team. • Refrain from the use of any controlled substance (alcohol, drugs, etc.) before, during and after the game on or near the site of the event. • Be a positive role model at events through your own actions and by censuring those around you whose behavior is unbecoming As an umpire, we have the right to rule on anything that is not specifically spelled out in the rules and yes there is a rule that we can do that.

A Thursday, Friday, Saturday Series would be awesome And if it rains ???? This is Southeast Texas, if you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes ! I actually think the way the 5A district has done their district games was very good. Played everybody once then came back and played the same team twice in a week home and home. Played each team 3 times just not all in one week. I also think it is easier for districts with 6 teams compared to 8 team districts to be able to play each other three times.

UIL Football Finals Central Site Plan Set To Begin
MrUmp1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
For all of you that now understand about the UIL money grab, this is what TASO has been fighting because that is why the UIL wants to to make officials "register" with them. It's all about getting 50 bucks a man to have the right to officiate whatever sport you choose. The schools have let the UIL get to big and to much control. -
