  1. Congrats WB. Westfield is a really tough draw and will be a heavy favorite. What I see likely happening is that the Westfield D will be more like The Woodlands D, capable of slowing that awesome WB offense. But, WB has surprised me more than once this season. And anytime you have an offense like that, you have a chance. My prediction 32-22 Westfield. But, I'll be rooting for WB.
  2. Being a Woodlands fan I have really come to appreciate Beaumont West Brook. I know we won big against them. But, everything since that game tells me it was a fluke game for West Brook. Not that Highlanders won, we would win again, but the scope of the victory. My bet is that in a rematch it would not be so one sided. What I've come to appreciate about West Brook is how after such a one sided loss, the Bruins have picked themselves up and beaten some very good teams. They are 11-1 and deserving of the good press and respect from other teams. I still think Klein Collins, Cedar Ridge and Westfield are the R2 favorites. But, I won't be shocked if West Brook pulls off a couple of big upsets. There are many Highlander fans cheering you on, good luck West Brook.
  3. Congrats West Brook on last week. I really didn't know who to pick last week. Two excellent teams. I'm with BadSanta, I think West Brook is the clear favorite. Two TD win is probably about right. Very proud of how West Brook has played these last few weeks. They are my dark horse pick in R2 D2.
  4. Absolutely, they will be the favorites. The Lakeview District is considered one of the weakest in the state.
  5. I've lost a little confidence in LV. I expected a victory over a very good JT. It's probably not fair.
  6. I saw a really good crowd for The Woodlands game. And, it's a long road trip for Longview. Tough game to call. Both are good teams capable of a deep run this season at least with regard to Region Two. I don't see either going to state this season, but ya never know.
  7. I don't understand the love for Ridge Point. They've just not played any tough opponents. I think there are at least six D1 teams in R3 that will easily dispatch them. They're out in the second round to the winner of Lamar v Cy Fair. I pick Cy Fair.
  8. No, the times Ranch has gone to state they were D1. Katy was the D2 rep. Ranch is a good team, but they will lose to Katy. I give them a chance but not a great chance.
  9. I would't call Montgomery a strong opponent. Rockwell is about to flatten them. Lufkin has as good an offense as anyone, they have a weak weak defense.
  10. I agree with you that WB has talent. But, when I saw the match-up with the Woodlands I didn't see two equal teams physically. But, this is not a typical Woodlands team. Normally they are not ranked #3 in the state. WB is very good as the record indicates, but to compare them with an elite Woodlands team is unfair. My guess is the two will be more closely aligned in talent next season when they graduate many from an extra talented senior heavy team.
  11. Well West Brook beat Lufkin and Lufin beat Longview, so you never know. West Brook has surprised me with how well they have regrouped after the Woodlands loss. Yes too, everyone except their first opponent has been beaten badly by The Woodlands. So given what else West Brook has done, I give them a chance.
  12. This should be a good game, hard to pick a winner.
  13. I see what you mean. Ranch certainly has one of the best coaches in the area. But, part of the reason Ranch has progressed quite far in the playoffs has been that R3 D1 frequently has been weak. Not so this year, it is one of the best. Most years with the teams Ranch and Fair have, I would think they could get to the Region Tille game. Not so this year, that Region is stacked as I said earlier, it looks like murders row. Not only would I say The Woodlands is the exception, they currently have what appears to be the best D in the area. Pretty impressive how they shut down Katy's Glass to 66 yards when he was averaging 230 a game leading into their game. They did the same thing to George Ranch and otherwise undefeated West Brook in even more impressive fashion 72-7.
  14. Are you saying playing the spread has anything to do with defense or just that they don't play the spread and have a good defense? The Woodlands unlike Katy, plays the spread and both have top notch defenses.
  15. Yeah, I missed them. That should be a good match-up with George Ranch in the first round. Sad for the loser because the winner may go on to the Region Title.
  16. I was looking at the other two in Cy Fair District in D2 and think they may make some noise. It's clear the vast majority of really good teams have gone D1. I think Cy Ridge, Dawson, Langham Creek LaPorte and George Ranch are the class of the group. The best in that group is no better than fifth in the D1 group. It's a good year to be in R3 D2. I really like the Cy Schools, GR and maybe Dawson to come out as the Region Rep. I don't rule out LaPorte, but they are probably my fifth pick.
  17. I don't really see a lot of depth in R3 D2, but D1 is a beast Dickinson, Taylor, Katy, NS, Ranch, Cy-Fair and even Ridge Point. That's murderers row. I still like the old pro Katy coming out on top.
  18. I haven't seen WF this season, but I have seen West Brook. WF lost a lot of talent from the very good team last season. Based on what I've read, they still have plenty of size and also the speed of West Brook. I think WF is a 14 point favorite. But, the wild card is West Brook's offense. If the size and speed of WF can shut down the West Brook offense like The Woodlands did to them, it will be a long night. But, if West Brook can get something going like they did against a very good Lufkin team, there could be an upset. JMHO.
  19. Region IIGarland Naaman Forest at Dallas JesuitLufkin at Tyler John TylerAustin Anderson at PflugervilleSpring DeKaney at Klein CollinsRichardson Lake Highlands at Garland Lakeview CentennialLongview at Beaumont West BrookRound Rock McNeil at San MarcosHouston Stratford at Spring Westfield This is the latest projected line-up I've seen. I see WF beating Stratford then the McNeil v San Marcos winner. The Longview BWB winner should defeat the Lake Highlands v Garland Lakeview Centennial team. So that potentially pits WF against BWB in round three. WF is weaker than last season, but should be a heavy favorite over BWB if they play. I see the other side of the bracket or potential fourth round BWB opponent as the winner between KC and John Tyler with KC being the favorite to win the Regional title. Just my opinion for what it's worth.
  20. Of that group only West Brook switched regions. They will probably switch back to R2 after last season as UIL took a lot of heat for making such a wide geographic area district. I don't see them doing that again. Here is a side by side comparison of what I consider a top 6A team The Woodlands and Ridge Point Ridge Point scores 372 points in nine games giving up a paltry 71 points. That comes out to scoring 41.3 ppg and allowing a super impressive 7.9 ppg. The Woodlands scores 401 points in nine games giving up 102 points. That comes out to scoring 44.6 ppg and allowing 11.3 ppg. On the surface Ridge Point looks more impressive with a greater spread between points scored v points allowed. But dig deeper and a different picture emerges. The overall record of Ridge Point's opponents is 34-43 with the district opponents overall records being 22-28. The overall record of The Woodlands opponents is 53-29 with the district opponents records being 27-19. The biggest victories for RP are 7-2 Stratford, 7-2 Kemper and 6-3 Travis. The biggest victories for TW are 7-2 Cy Fair, 7-2 Spring, 7-2 Katy, 8-1 West Brook and 6-3 Lufkin. I just don't get the enthusiasm for Ridge Point, mostly they've beaten up on weak teams.
  21. Katy and NS are in Region Three. The Woodlands, Westfield, Klein Collins and West Brook are in Region Two. You and I are on the same page with regard to Ridge Point. They were a very good 5A team, cleaning up against a sub par district in 6A. As soon as they face a top tier 6A team they'll be out. See George Ranch. GR was supposed to be a major contender in 6A. Some polls had them rated in the top ten to start the season in 6A. As soon as they faced a good 6A team, Dickinson, they lost. The Woodlands completely destroyed them. The same thing will happen to RP.
  22. I agree on the top four in those two districts. Number four beats most districts. The combined Spring Klein district that was broken apart this season is probably the best over several years that I've seen. But since they were split this season, I agree Cy and 24 6A are the deepest. But, while I think their depth is fantastic, I don't think their top teams will do well against Katy or NS. Time will tell. I really like NS coach and think his team would play much better against Manvel now. I'm not sure NS would beat them, but Manvel may well be the best team in 5A. I fully expect Katy, NS or LT to be the state finalist. My problem with Ridge Point is while their numbers are great, they really have no statement victories over top tier teams. If I had to pick the two champs now it is Desoto (assuming they go D2) and The Woodlands.
