Yeah he is going to be a third year sophmore. I looked him up on the roster and it stated that he took part in all non contact drills during the spring, but not sure if he will be ready or not for the opener. If Johnson is transferring wont he have to sit out this season?

I would prefer the shoot-out at the end of the 90 minutes instead of overtime just to eliminate the possibility of players picking up either a red or yellow card.

BERLIN -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter says soccer's governing body will consider eliminating ties in all World Cup games. Blatter said Saturday on Germany's Focus weekly that the dramatic change would make the tournament more interesting. He says the change could involve going to a shootout after 90 minutes of regulation or adding sudden-death overtime. Sudden-death overtime was used in the knockout rounds of the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. FIFA then reverted to its previous rule of having teams play a full 30 minutes of overtime if tied at the end of regulation in the knockout rounds. First-round games always have ended in draws if tied at the end of regulation.

Trevor Ariza was sent to the New Orleans Hornets and Darren Collison to the Indiana Pacers in a four-team, five-player trade Wednesday. In the trade, the Houston Rockets sent Ariza to the Hornets, who in turn sent Collison and James Posey to the Pacers. The Pacers sent Troy Murphy to the New Jersey Nets. And the Nets sent Courtney Lee to the Rockets. "We said at the beginning of the summer that we were going to be patient and don't make drastic moves just to make a move," Pacers president Larry Bird said. "We have a plan here. It's a three-year plan, and I expect to get the job done in three years." The Hornets didn't stop there. NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that in a separate deal, the team agreed to send swingman Julian Wright to Toronto for Raptors guard Marco Belinelli. That deal was expected to be completed Wednesday. The four-team deal could fill some long-term needs for the Hornets, Pacers and Nets, as well as provide needed salary relief for the Rockets. For the Hornets, while moving Collison leaves them without a credible backup for Chris Paul, the addition of Ariza gives them a young, athletic wing entering his prime. The Hornets are hoping that the addition of Ariza addresses Paul's concerns about the team's commitment to winning by showing that they're willing to spend money to get better. Ariza signed a five-year, $34 million deal with the Rockets last summer. For the Pacers, landing Collison gives them the young starting point guard they've been looking for and adds another piece to a young core of players including Danny Granger, Roy Hibbert and promising rookies Paul George and Lance Stephenson. "I think it helps out tremendously," Bird said. "I think this was the piece that we needed. The vision I have for this franchise is to get the core group up and ready to go as quick as we can, and this piece here will accelerate everything." The Pacers did take on the last two years and $13 million of Posey's contract, but the deal also sliced another $4 million off the team's overall payroll. In Murphy, the Nets get the veteran big man that new coach Avery Johnson has been coveting. Murphy is also on the last year of his contract, which could make him an important trading chip for the Nets at the 2011 trade deadline. "We are very pleased to add Troy to our roster," Nets general manager Billy King said. "He is a quality power forward who has the ability to stretch the floor, and we feel that he will be a very positive addition to our frontcourt rotation." For the Rockets, the move is basically a large salary dump. This summer the Rockets spent a lot of cash signing Luis Scola, Kyle Lowry and Brad Miller to free-agent contracts and their payroll ballooned. Before the trade, the team was bracing for an $8 million-plus luxury tax hit. This deal saves the Rockets $28 million on the life of the contract and roughly $10 million (when you factor in luxury tax payments) this season. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said their involvement in the trade was mostly about the opportunity to get Lee, a 6-5 guard whom they've coveted since the 2008 draft. "We really target players who we think will fit in well here over time," Morey said. "When we got our first chance to acquire him, we were fairly aggressive to get that done. He's very versatile." The Rockets envisioned the 6-8 Ariza developing into a dependable scoring threat on the wing. He averaged a career-high 14.9 points in 72 games last season but shot 39.4 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from 3-point range. "To get something you like, you've got to give up something," Morey said. "It wasn't a situation where we were down on Trevor. It was really about that we think Courtney has a big future." Lee, acquired from the Orlando Magic on draft night in 2009 in the Vince Carter deal, averaged 12.5 points in 71 games for the Nets last season, including 66 starts. He shot 43.6 percent from the field last season and will likely back up shooting guard Kevin Martin with the Rockets.

I read a little about Montgomery in the Houston Chronicle I believe yesterday, and I was impressed. The QB and RB are pretty solid and should be tough to stop.

DETROIT -- Tracy McGrady has agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Detroit Pistons, a source told ESPN.com. McGrady played in just 30 games last season for the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks. He had major surgery on his right knee in the middle of the 2008-09 season. McGrady The seven-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion drew some interest from the Chicago Bulls this summer. Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson told "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 that McGrady had "a very good workout" for the team, but didn't fit with the Bulls' plans. "He's a good guy. But we just felt that given where we're at, and the way we want to play, we do want to be more of an up-tempo team on the offensive end. We want to run and push the ball," Paxson said. "It was more based on the youth of our team and where we're at. He'll do well. Tracy looked like he was just going to turn the corner physically," he said. The 6-foot-8 wing averaged 8.2 points last season, his lowest-scoring season since 1997-98, when he was a rookie with the Toronto Raptors after skipping college. Just two years ago, though, he averaged 21-plus points for the eighth time in his career. If McGrady accepts his role, likely as a reserve, he could prove to be a bargain playing for the veteran's minimum even if he doesn't approach his career scoring average of 21.5 points. "I've made a lot of money over my career and I could retire right now and I could be fine financially," McGrady said in February after he was traded by the Rockets to the Knicks while making $23 million in the last year of his contract. "My kids can be fine when they get older. Money is not an issue for me." McGrady, who is from Bartow, Fla., was drafted No. 9 overall in the 1997 draft by Toronto. He went to Orlando in a sign-and-trade deal in 2000 and was dealt four years later to Houston. His last healthy season was five years ago. He missed 34 games during the 2005-06 season with back problems; elbow and knee injuries led to him missing 16 games two years later; and microfracture surgery put his career in jeopardy about 1½ years ago. If he's relatively healthy, happy and effective for the Pistons, McGrady will provide a boost for a team that missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2001 with its worst record since 1995.

Starting the season as the No. 1 team in the RivalsHigh 100 is something else altogether. Head coach Robert Weiner says neither will affect the team. The rankings, and therefore expectations, are certainly there for a team that has won the Florida Class 4A state title in 2008 and the Class 5A state title in 2009. It also doesn't hurt that the Panthers are bringing back one of the best players in the country, James Wilder Jr., and a two-time state championship quarterback, Phillip Ely. Wilder, the son of the former NFL great by the same name, is ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Rivals 100 for the Class of 2011. Where he'll play next season will be known soon. Weiner confirmed on Monday to FlaVarsity.com that Wilder will announce his college decision on Aug. 18, likely around 5 p.m. He also recognizes the talent he has on the field and admits to being in awe of the ability of Wilder. "James is a maniac and I am not sure he knows it," Weiner said. "It is like going for a run with your dog. Your dog doesn't know how far you are going so he just takes off. That is just like James. He goes as hard as he can until the whistle. Then he does it again. I have never seen a player with that kind of intensity from start to finish." But it doesn't end there with Wilder. "What people don't know about James is what makes him truly special," Weiner said. "I have seen good players who just rely on their natural ability, but James' effort actually exceeds his ability. He works his butt off to get better. He has amazing effort and he plays with an incredible passion. He is also a sponge. Anything we try to teach him he absorbs, he loves to learn and loves to be coached." Ely follows in those accolades from Wiener. "When Phillip first came up with us, he was to follow Aaron Murray, and heck he may have been 5-foot-9 then," Weiner recalled. "And he couldn't bench press two 45-pound plates. Now, he is 6-foot-1 and a real football player." Weiner wouldn't comment on his bench, but it's safe to assume that it has improved too. The main part of Ely's game, though, is one that is often overlooked. He's a winner. Ely is now 19-0 as a starter and has won two state titles. "He doesn't have a 'wow factor,'" Weiner said. "But when you measure a quarterback you can look for yards or arm strength, but what is most important is - does he know how to win? Does the team buy into him as a leader? And the kids know with Phillip they have a chance to win." All of the accolades aside, the team still will need to get it done on the field. After an up-and-down spring and summer, one that included a spring game loss to nearby Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson - who is ranked No. 61 in the RivalsHigh 100, but a team Plant beat 46-13 last season - the games can not start soon enough for Plant. "We will know pretty much everything we will need to know after our first six games of the season," Weiner said. Those games include a jamboree game against No. 49-ranked Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee; a season opener at Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech, who handed Plant its only loss last year; rival Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough; a nationally-televised game against the RivalsHigh100 No. 3 team in Abilene (Texas) High; and finally a home contest against No. 26 Seffner (Fla.) Armwood. "If you want to play the kind of football we want to play, that is the kind of schedule you want to have," Weiner said. "Week in and week out, we are taking on the best we can." It all starts in less than three weeks.

Free-agent center Shaquille O'Neal will likely sign with the Boston Celtics, as soon as Tuesday night or Wednesday, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard. O'Neal had said earlier Tuesday that he hopes to make a decision about his future soon, and both NBA.com and Comcast SportsNet New England indicated that the Celtics were "close" to signing the four-time NBA champion. Later Tuesday, The Associated Press cited a person with knowledge of the negotiations as saying the Celtics were making progress on a deal for O'Neal. The Atlanta Hawks had been the front-runner to land O'Neal last month and are not completely out of the picture, sources told Broussard, but they have fallen behind the Celtics. O'Neal was not willing to reveal which team he was leaning toward. "For me, it's been a real thinking process," O'Neal told The Associated Press on Tuesday from Orlando, Fla., where he was promoting his television series, "Shaq Vs.," with teen pop star Justin Bieber. "I came into the league very graciously and want to go out very graciously. My main thought was I would like to play for a winning franchise, somebody that's used to winning, somebody that keeps winning. Hopefully, I'll make my decision here in the next one or two days." The Celtics can offer only the veteran minimum salary ($1.35 million for a veteran of 10-plus NBA seasons), but Cleveland could facilitate a sign-and-trade with Boston if the 38-year-old center requires more money. O'Neal has made nearly $291 million in basketball contracts alone, including $20 million with the Cavaliers last season. How will LeBron James be received when he goes back to Cleveland as a member of the Miami Heat? A national television audience will find out when the Heat make the first of two visits to the Cavaliers on Dec. 2, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported. The game will be on TNT. James and new teammates Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade will make their regular-season debut Oct. 26 against the Boston Celtics, the NBA announced on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Houston Rockets in the other opening-night game on TNT. The Rockets hope to have Yao Ming back in the lineup after he missed last season with a foot injury. The Heat will open at home Oct. 29 against the Orlando Magic and visit the defending champion Lakers on Christmas Day. When James returns to Cleveland, the city where he played seven seasons before leaving as a free agent last month, the reaction could be ugly. Many Cleveland fans were enraged when James announced on July 8, on national television, that he was leaving for Miami. Owner Dan Gilbert fired off a scathing letter promising the Cavs will win a title before James does, and the oversized banner of James near Quicken Loans Arena was pulled down shortly thereafter. The Cavs will also host the Heat on March 29, according to The Plain Dealer. Cleveland will visit Miami on Dec. 15 and Jan. 31, according to multiple media reports.
