I think that we used that same defensive scheme last year....and if I remember correctly...that defense was pretty damn good ! ;)

Where are the problems ? Pitching should be fairly solid. Is it hitting and defense ? I've only been able to make one game (vs. Penn State) but defense was phenomenal that day.

Roy Esquivel passed away yesterday in Port Neches. He was a coach for the Indians, then became principal at the high school. Prayers go out to the Esquivel family who have been through so much recently.  :'(

Man, I don't like to play the "what - if" game too much, but I think that the Indians last five losses were by a total of 14 points. If that's not accurate, it's close. They were really close to being a pretty solid team and getting into the playoffs. You have to think that the players that they lost as the season progressed, would have made a difference in at least a couple of those games ! Congrats to the kids for not giving up and fighting to the end. Shows what kind of character these young men have. Now it's time for Doty to get that FOOTBALL back in his hands !!!

I also know that you can't expect the kids to keep playing to their potential with NO DEPTH. Doty, Deron, Kerr, and company are spent ! They have played ALOT of minutes this year (following a long football season). We traditionally don't have much depth so we definitely can't absorb any grade casualties or injuries. I am not seeing the talent "year in and year out" like you are seeing. Come on, let's be realistic. There may be that much talent tied up in other sports, but they are not all coming out for basketball. This program is a product of the athletic system at PN-G. I just don't see it changing. Since you are focused on Coach Abel not opening up the gym, did you know that Coach Abel's wife runs the PN-G Little Dribblers program ? As a matter of fact Coach Abel and his wife are out until 9:00 PM or later every night of the week with their involvement in Little Dribblers. Here's another bit of information, Coach Abel and his wife COACH Little Dribblers after they leave their REAL jobs due to a shortage of coaches. I know that Spencer Deron and Christian Kerr also coach Liitle Dribblers after practice along with Coach Arnaud. This is the future of the basketball program. If you want to see what Little Dribblers does for a school, go watch Kountze, Hardin-Jefferson, and Silsbee. So if you were implying that Coach Abel is not concerned with the future of the program for "not opening up the gym", you need to see for yourself the sacrifices that his family makes for future basketball players at PN-G. On a lighter note , the Little Dribblers program is doing really well with great participation numbers on the boys' and the girls' side. This will help in the future if the kids choose to stick with basketball.

[/quote] Basketball is a distant third in boys athletics at PN-G. Football and Baseball are the emphasis at The Reservation. As far as Nederland goes, there is an ENTIRELY different situation going on there right now. The athletes are in place for English to be very successful in the future. PN-G Basketball history in general has very few highlights. I am not trying to take anything away from Vidor for the victory against PN-G at all. It has to be a frustrating job at PN-G to coach basketball, but on the other hand, the expectations aren't very high. The school would have gone nuts if we would have been the fourth place team and just made the playoffs. Coaches don't get fired at PN-G for losing games in basketball. The coaching history speaks for itself. I guess that you could say that it is a "low pressure - low reward" job. I just don't see that changing in the near future. I see another successful baseball season upcoming. I also feel like PN-G may be on the verge of becoming a consistent powerhouse again in football if we can keep most of the current coaching staff in place for a few years. None of this bodes well for the basketball program. And don't forget, that basketball overlaps baseball, and the elite baseball players will never play basketball and miss the start of practice. That is just the way that it has always been. It is no different than the way Ozen kids probably look at basketball and baseball, just opposite of the way things are viewed at PN-G.

We lost two starters to grades and one to injury. No depth at all. Look at the first Nederland game when English was running in 5-man units against us. By the middle of the third, we were gassed. Still should have beaten Nederland twice and with a win against Livingston, we are fine. If we just keep the kids we had eligible and healthy, we are in the playoffs. In speaking about the program in general, Coach Abel does a great job with the players and the hand that he is dealt. Basketball at PN-G will always be "low man on the totem pole". There are good basketball players and good athletes in general walking the halls every year that never see the court. Between the emphasis and success of football and baseball, it is just a fact of life that we have to deal with. Look back at the history of basketball at PN-G, that tells you everything that you need to know. Has to be one of the most frustrating jobs in the area.

Brenham beat PN-G soundly. Score was probably closer than the actual contest. PN-G thoroughly embarrassed Crosby. I believe it was 37-7.  ;)

Heck, it's never too early....Take a stab at a pre-season top 5 for next year for the area (all classifications). Here's mine... 1. West Brook (Loaded w/ returners - should make a very deep playoff run) 2. Kirbyville (Not sure if they could beat a 4a squad, but I am putting them here anyway) 3. PN-G ( Huge O-line, Dominant D-line, QB, and 2 WR's returning along with undefeated JV) 4. Central/Dayton ( not sure about graduation losses for these two) 5. Jasper/WO-S (Dogs should be good; Stangs are always good) * Newton should probably be considered also.

Coaches do this all of the time to get a pay raise by putting their name in for another job. You guys at BH don't get discouraged. Vance and Danaher used this tactic with the PN-G job for financial gain at Liberty Hill and Callalen respectively. Last time that I checked, we came out in pretty good shape with Coach Faircloth, so let the process play out and see what happens.

I can assure you that our coaches and players know what they are going to be in for ! Some are so excited about our success this year that they tend to get a little carried away and lose some focus... ;)

I will see if I can round up my assistants. I guess I will call the PNG White guys also , even though I am not liking them too much right now because of that "thumping" that we took on Saturday. I have been wanting to make one of these "social events".  ;)

This will be a great game. Both teams have great defenses. PNG has a really good, experienced offensive line. I think people are interpreting the "one man team" deal wrong. If you shut #28 down, you win, it is that simple. He is probably one of the two best players in the league. It doesn't mean that the other kids on the team aren't talented. But, if you take him away, this team is not in this position to win it all. PN-G White is tough to stop. We found this out first hand and I feel like we have a pretty good defense !

Congratulations and Good Luck to all four teams that made the semi-finals ! This is going to be a great day for the kids. These teams all have quality coaching staffs filled with quality guys who are in it for the right reasons. Another false post. Go back and quote a single post where I was on the site "gloating" about PNGYFA. I am extremely proud of the organization, but I challenge you to go back and find evidence of what you are claiming. I would be willing to bet that I have been involved in the organizations (both STJFL and PNGYFA) quite a bit longer than you have. Obviously I have a much more REALISTIC outlook on things. All of the sudden when the decision didn't go your way...the decision that you said meant nothing about WHO YOU PLAYED, but all about RIGHT AND WRONG... you and BAM became a little hostile ! By the way, nobody from our team videos games unless they are filming THEIR kids. That IS a little extreme for 7-8 year olds. I would like to say good luck to Ned. Black. I know that we will have our hands full and it should be a good game. Gotta go, have a GAME to PREPARE for !
