Ohhhhhhh yeah. We beat Bay City that year... their only loss So how about THAT for the best game? WO-S vs. Bay City 2000. WO-S wins (10-7?) and hands Bay City its only defeat. Bay City wins state and ends the season 14-1, and WO-S advances to the state championship, where they lose their only game and end up 15-1. A future state champ and state finalist who end up with one-loss, play EVERY WEEK of the season and it's settled by less than 10 points. Mark it down, baby
-
And now, the answer being an unfavorable one, the question changes AGAIN to, "What is Vidor's record against WO-S in the last 20 years?"
-
It's from experience. Everyone gets down on WO-S for missing the playoffs their last three years in 4A, but we were 8-2 the last two seasons. In 03, we lost two games by a grand total of six points (to nederland by 4 and Central by 2). In 02, Nederland beat us by 21, but our only other loss that year was by one point to Ozen. Both years, we stayed home.
-
Not if there's a team in another nearby district who have played an equally hard pre-district schedule, won all of those games against 4A playoff teams, loses two district games and ends up tied for third in a brutal district, missing the playoffs on a tiebreaker and sitting home at 8-2.

This is not bagging on Liberty. I used them as an example of a team who should not have been in the playoffs last year. They have a strong tradition, etc, but shouldn't have been in an eleventh game. It's not personal. Seeing how the season unraveled and how the game came out, I can't see how anyone would disagree. This is a general statement, not one about Liberty in specific. They were just used as an example. We've never played a playoff game quite like that, or I'd add another example.

Since you asked, bigdog, Vidor's record vs. WO-S is 7-14. Nederland's is 5-23.
-
JV was undefeated last year (9-0).
-
As far as their performance on the field for WO-S, the best three, without question, have been Kenneth Beasley, Eric Anderson and Tremaine Lewis. Although Eric didn't go on to D1 and NFL fame, he was the running QB before running QBs were cool.
-
No doubt. I can't wait to drive to Cleveland instead of the five minutes to Orangefield. Great.

Don't let the numbers fool you, HJ. We went to the title game in 4A in 2000 as one of the five smallest enrollments in 4A. Our record at the end was 15-1. If the kids out there are all dedicated and play with heart, it makes up for having a dozen more team members who are there to impress the girls. I'm always impressed when there's a coach who comes in and half of the players leave. I call it the "team purge." You get rid of all of the posers and keep the kids who live and breathe to help their school win. WO-S hasn't suited out 30 players in 10 years, I don't think, and we're usually outnumbered on the sidelines even by 3A opponents. But EVERY ONE of our kids is 100 percent committed, and they prove it by not quitting despite having to suffer one of the most grueling offseason programs in the state. Numbers mean very little to me. It only matters when it's down to the wire in an over-the-top physical game, and the other team has an endless supply of 6-5 linemen to replace the winded ones, while you've got the same guys on the O and D lines. That district split still kinda sucks, though. Putting Jasper, Silsbee, WO-S and BC in the same district still leaves one almost-perennial playoff team at home every year.

All I really know are the starters we have returning, which you can find on the Enterprise's football stats site, and that Ortavious Hypolite will likely be the QB. He put up INCREDIBLE numbers passing during the state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station and is more of a Beasley-type QB than the drop-back passer we had last year in Bevil. I have heard that his passing needs some work but is good and improving, and I know that he can run like a maniac. Also, we have a great young receiver coming back up named Chase Adams and a kid named Tre Franks. To folks in HJ, that probably doesn't mean a lot, but his brothers recently played for us (one was a WR last year) and they are currently at Texas A&M (where brother Kerry is predicted by one site as "the next big thing") and at Texas Tech (where Jacoby, a Mustang last year, will play WR). Their father, Kerry Sr., played D1 football as well, so the bloodline is strong. I'm guessing that you guys will see plenty of film before we meet, so really I'm not worried about keeping stuff confidential. I'll be honest. I'm just a fan, not a coach, so really all I can do is speculate. The guy you have to stop this year is DPG. He has a chance at a D1 scholarship but hasn't locked it up, so he'll be even more focused. I have a few friends at work from HJ, so I always root for y'all when we're not matched up. Honestly, it seemed like last year's game started off so badly for y'all that the guys on the field were just trying (very early) to not lose by too much. Otherwise, i'm sure it would have been much closer. I look forward to seeing Burrell run on the highlight shows - just hopefully not too much when we're there in person

No one will know until it happens. They unveil the districts after they've been arranged. Until then, no one really knows. Right, coop?
-
Sorry, but you're wrong. Even if PN-G lost to Kilgore in the third round (which they didn't), they would only have won TWO playoff games. If they won three, they would have lost in the fourth round. Right? According to your own site, pngindians.com, PN-G hasn't even been in the regionals (third round) since 99. Two wins equals regionals. Not being in regionals means they haven't won two games. I totally respect PN-G as a team, tradition, etc. I miss playing them more than any other team in 20-4A. But let's not blather some BS to make a point.
-
It's more likely this year than in the last five, but still probably not. Their last win was in 94, and the one before that (playing pretty much every year) was 82. So every 12 years. I guess they're due. Then they can shed those "The Hit List" tattered shirts that they still wear around town. What's our record against them now? I'm guessing it's 21-2, but I could be off on our win total. The sad thing for LC-M, as I've been told by a few Beaumont coaches who live in and send their kids to LCMISD, is that Moody will likely be on his way out in about two years due to parental pressure. "Why isn't Tommy playing?" "Tommy should be on the field." Look, Tommy f*(#&ing sucks. You're never going to beat a - sorry for my homerism - great team like WO-S if you're making sure the councilman's son gets his time in on offense. The politics in that district will chase him off within three years, and it'll be back to the Bumbling Bears (which they still haven't quite overcome).
-
I would expect BC about like they were last year, honestly. But really, there are too many wild cards to tell - new QB, new coach, off-the-field distractions, etc. Probably middle of the pack this year.
-
I'm alone in thinking this, but I think the champ of 21-3A will be undefeated in district. I don't know that there will be any "great" 22-4A teams this year, but I think Central and Dayton will make a run at the title. Dayton COULD be undefeated in district, with their only loss to WO-S (actually, I don't think we'll pull that one off this year, but that's just between you and me, keyboard) For OUR district, I think the champ will be from the group of WO-S, Kirbyville or Silsbee. My honest opinion is that Kirbyville still has a bit of a mental block with WO-S and Silsbee. Silsbee and WO-S both lost a bunch of superstars but will replace them with future stars. I was a little pessimistic about our chances early in the offseason, but with the amazing work that our new young QB has shown and the return of mini Barry Sanders Depauldrick Garrett, my money would be on my Stangs this year. I really think the champ will be undefeated and the second-place team will just have the one loss to the champs. Probably the third place team will only have lost to the two above them. HF could grow by leaps and bounds if they cure their pitiful offense. HJ will have a great RB in Burrell, but there were too many things to fix last year to jump into contention this year. They should certainly be better, though. Orangefield will have to cope with the loss of a three-year starter at QB, and Bridge City loses its superstar "Mr. Everything" in Dishon, not to mention dealing with the problems that have recently been brought to light in the media. Jasper is the wild card. Last year's team was young, so they bring back experience. But, even for a young team, they were pretty darn bad. Brooks is a good coach (thanks to his time at WO-S ), but it remains to be seen whether his team grows with baby steps or with leaps and bounds. What was the question again?

WO-S went 8-2 and missed the playoffs in two of their last seasons in 4A, despite beating SEVERAL quality 4A teams like Bay City and PN-G. Well, I was surprised. Liberty kicked off to open the game, Earl Thomas returned it for a TD, and that pretty much was the story for the rest of the night. This reinforces the point I made many months ago. Yes, we beat Hardin Jefferson 63-0 last year, but, other than that, our easiest game was IN THE PLAYOFFS. No playoff score, even if it's one of the elite teams, should be a 60-point margin of victory. What makes it bad for US is that the next week we played a GREAT team in Giddings and lost in a very close one. If we had sharpened our skills the week before instead of putting on a show, maybe it would have made a tiny bit of difference - enough to move on. In 2000, we were one of the smallest teams in 4A. We fought tooth and nail through several games that season, including one against eventual D1 state champs Bay City, to a 10-0 record. Then we went into the playoffs and, in succession, faced Jasper, Magnolia, LaMarque, Friendswood, Calallen and Ennis. It was one of the most difficult schedules we've ever played (beating PN-G, Nederland, champion Bay City, LaMarque, Friendswood, Calallen, Jasper, Lincoln, etc?) and we only lost one game - the state championship against Ennis. The only easy game we had in the playoffs was Magnolia, but they didn't have a losing record. There are teams out there that lose only two games all season with a BRUTAL schedule who miss the playoffs, and teams who only win three games all season with a pansy schedule. The team with a losing record against bad opponents lives to play another day, while a genuinely good, playoff-caliber team (as WO-S was in at least two of their 8-2, stay at home seasons) has no chance to prove themselves. Sorry, it makes no sense to me.

Hey, Goofy. This is a thread about Kirbyville. There's a whole separate sticky-noted thread about when team previews will be released. But since you are a BCISD kid, let me help you out: August 1: Bridge City :
-
One former district rival has been to the 4A finals since PN-G, though they moved districts since. In 2003 and 2004, PN-G won one playoff game (each year). That's four wins from making it to the title game and five from winning it. That's not an almost. That's a loooooooooong stretch.
-
Cool. Dude, I had no idea that you and I were the two team reps to make that call! I'll get on it, and I'll let them know that you've given it the OK. This year we ducked you guys in favor of playing an easier team in Dayton. : P.S. - Your karma rating rules.
-
That was sarcasm about 05. I was jokingly assuming that Ned believes we've cheated in every one of our 27 (or 28?) wins against them, and that they won all five or six of theirs fair and square.
-
I do remember a call in 92 vs. PN-G for the district championship. WO-S scored the tying TD with barely any time to go and opted to go for 2. Kendall Cleveland took the ball and dove over the goal line, landing on the pile on the other side. When his body hit the guys under him, the ball popped loose. No whistle blew. A WO-S player recovered it, and they signaled "good." The WO-S side went nuts. Then another ref signaled "No good," and the PN-G fans went nuts. The refs talked, and one again signaled "good," starting another wave of cheers from the WO-S side just as another official runs into the discussion. The final decision? No good, because, "when a player fumbles in the end zone, he must recover the ball himself." See, I always thought that the rule was if you fumble INTO the end zone. But, then again, that's just me relying on the notion that once the ball breaks the plane - even if your feet never touch, the ball never touches, you drop it once it's across, etc. - it's a TD. There is no such thing as "fumbling in the end zone." But if you wipe that away, I guess it was a fine call. Ah well. Big whoop.

Well, it came from Larry Neumann and was on one of the local network affiliates. Talk to him.
-
That's easy - I do have a crystal ball. It said you wouldn't have scored anyway. In fact, it said the next play would have been an INT for a TD, and that eight Nederland players and four WO-S players would break their legs during the chaos caused by the return - which would have included Michael Ledet actually doing a Matrix-like front flip over the Nederland QB and center. Then it said that Nederland fans would gripe for up to 10 years on message boards that he was showboating. Let's be happy it ended the way it did.
