  15. Baylor makes Mulkey highest paid women's coach in Big 12 Baylor extends Mulkey's contract for 10 years 11:19 AM CDT on Friday, April 6, 2007 By BRIAN DAVIS / The Dallas Morning News [email protected] Texas made Gail Goestenkors the highest paid women's basketball in the Big 12 on Thursday morning. By nightfall, she had already slipped to No. 2. The Baylor Board of Regents approved an eye-popping new contract for Kim Mulkey late Thursday. She has agreed to a 10-year deal worth more than $10 million. It's an unprecedented pact from a school desperate to keep the person who put the Lady Bears on the map by winning the 2005 national title. "It's a good feeling as a coach to have a good sense of security," Mulkey said. "The way it looks now, I'll spend the rest of my career at Baylor. Not many coaches have that security." Mulkey is 183-53 in seven seasons at Baylor. She's guided the Lady Bears to six NCAA Tournament appearances. During the 2002-03 season, Baylor reached the WNIT finals. Goestenkors agreed to a seven-year deal worth $1 million annually on Thursday with the Longhorns. She could make another $270,000 in incentives. Mulkey's deal would be worth more than that, according to a Baylor athletic department source. While her total compensation package is worth more than $1 million, Mulkey is not expected to surpass Tennessee's Pat Summitt, who leads the nation at $1.125 million. "Don't let anybody tell you that you can't win at the highest level at Baylor University," Mulkey said. "It's been proven, and there's no reason it can't be done. It takes the right administration, the right resources and the right coaches."
