  4. Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News NEDERLAND — NEDERLAND — Hot bats and great pitching paced the Nederland Bulldogs to a 2-0 start in their annual tournament on Thursday. In the night cap, Carson Raines blew through C.E. King, allowing just one run on three hits and struck out eight in the five-inning affair that Nederland won 11-1.   In their matinee with Hardin-Jefferson, the Dogs cruised to a 15-1 decision, receiving a five-inning no-hitter from Trent Fontenot. Led by two doubles from Cody Laird, who also had a run and an RBI, the Bulldogs racked up 11 hits against the Eagles.   Laird followed that performance by going 3-for-4 with two more doubles that earned him a pair of RBIs. He also scored twice.   Anthony Babino pitched in with a solid day as well, scoring three runs on two walks and drove in a run with a triple. That was all against Hardin-Jefferson. He also had a single in the second game that led to another run.   Adding to C.E. King's fire, Nick Cardenas went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run and two RBIs. Trevin Sonnier produced two hits as well, including a double and he scored a pair of runs.   With those results, the Bulldogs improved their season record to 5-2 and became the only team in the tournament with two wins.   Time expired on a 1-1 affair between West Brook and Bridge City. Matt Hicks went all eight innings for the Cardinals, allowing six hits and struck out seven.   Bridge City ripped Hardin-Jefferson 10-1 in its first game, coming out with a 1-0-1 record for the day. West Brook earned a victory over C.E. King in its second contest to finish Thursday at 1-0-1, making C.E. King and the Hawks both 0-2.   Nederland plays West Brook at 2:30 p.m. and Bridge City at 7 p.m. today and needs just one win to earn a spot in the championship game which will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m.   The third and fourth seeds will meet for a consolation bout. Seeding is determined by best record, head-to-head, most runs scored, most runners to third base and team to issue the largest amount of strikeouts.
