  1. Don't listen to a couple of homers broadcasting a football game. There's nothing "wrong" with being a homer, but you can at least be realistic. I will say Gilmer has two very good RBs that could start for over 80% of the 4A teams in the state, but RBs are always going to be only as good as the O-line blocking. YAC is very good for these two, though. Realistically, Gilmer would have to play lights out, AND Carthage would have to have a few turnovers and/or a lackluster performance for the Buckeyes to have a chance. I don't see that happening, though, unfortunately. I'd be tickled pink if we were to win, and satisfied somewhat if we played competitive. It's more of a mental thing than a physical thing, even though the proven coaching advantage goes to Carthage. Surratt and Preston are amazing at getting their players prepared, and making adjustments in real time during a game,
  2. I hope you don't gamble for a living, because if you did, you would starve to death.😂 Seriously, though, anything can happen in a game played by teenagers, but I don't see anybody in 4A remotely close to what Carthage is this season. They have imposed their will on every single opponent they've played, and they've played some very good teams. Honestly, they are on a whole other level. I hope China Spring does actually challenge them, but I don't see this one being close......at all.
  3. Man......., it is so hard to say Surratt will lose in a championship game. However, I think La Vega has the team this year that won't be denied. I honestly hope I'm dead wrong about that.
  4. There goes that "scared to play us" theory. Look, folks, Newton is a loooong way from Gilmer. Even halfway is a long way. There are a LOT of quality teams in Northeast Texas who we would "prefer" to play because of that reason. It's definitely not like we're in a weak region at all. There are good teams everywhere up here. I do like this match up. I'll have to agree with the one who said Gilmer ain't what they used to be. They are still a very good team, and a real threat to make a deep run, and IF the stars align just right, may even be a threat to make it to the top again. Count me as one of those realists that doesn't believe Newton could've stayed very close to last year's Carthage team. Newton had a really special team last year, but they have classifications for a reason. Playing Carthage would've essentially been a 3 classification jump for Newton.
  5. Carthage is a beast..., especially on championship day. If I could pick any coaching staff I wanted to start up a program, it would definitely begin with Scott Surratt.
  6. Hahahahaha... You ain't right. Gilmer didn't play their game in the first half, or it would've looked like the second half. Two can play that game.
  7. Wow! I honestly thought this "could" be a close one, but I was "pretty sure" Tenaha would prevail. Muenster's defense was a whole lot better than I had anticipated. Congrats to the Muenster Hornets!
  8. I'm interested to see what Kennedale looks like against Carthage. That will likely give me a better feel for what the next game will look like. Personally, I think PG is a better team than Kennedale, but I can't be positive about that.
  9. If you are thinking you are going to wear those big ol' PG boys out due to their being conditionally inferior, you are going to be surprised. Those Hawks can go 48 solid minutes for sure without noticeably getting gassed. I'm not sure who will win this one at all. I'm not biased either way, but make no mistake about it, the Hawks will not be an easy team to beat, in my opinion.
  10. I don't know when that will happen again. We've had a huge turnover in our coaching staff, and we haven't looked like ourselves the past couple of seasons. We will continue to have good seasons, though, but getting to the level we have been getting to may take a little longer. I don't know. We haven't had quite the talent level we're used to seeing, and we have also lacked the discipline we are used to having, and getting that back is tantamount to getting us to championship level. Time will tell.
  11. Yep..., and it'll likely mean you will get 45-ed. I'd be surprised if this game goes the distance.
  12. Make that 3 TDs on his last 3 carries... BC 24 Jonesboro 22
  13. 20-16 Jonesboro now. They just have to play some defense now. Good grief! 2 long TDs on his last 2 carries for the BC RB.
  14. Not really bored even if my team is not playing. I love me some high school football, and this week it's over. Kinda depressing when I think about it... I'm over here just to see what's going on with y'all to see if I can get a better feel for this game. There's so much chest beating and other nonsense going on over there it's tough to have any real football talk on the ET site. It's humorous at times, though. I have to admit that. It's dead on the downlow. Nobody from PG gets on there. They just now discovered that there were internet forums in that part of Texarkana when PG starting winning, so I guess they don't know about that one. No kidding, though. Congrats to the Mustangs. I'll admit I was one of those that thought the streak would end before this week somehow. It's amazing to be there AGAIN after losing JD, and so many players to graduation. And, I have absolutely no statistics (team or player), no roster, no real information available to make an educated guess in the title game. I'd like to know who to look for before actually watching the game.
  15. Awww, man! Come on! We could be playing y'all every year! What would be better than that?
  16. Dang! Y'all must pretty dang good to make it there 4 years in a row. Hmmm... Got any stats on Chaka? Dang, y'all must play something called D-Fence down there, or sumpin'. Can I borrow your DC for a few years? Do ya mind?
  17. Is it true? Y'all playing in the championship game again? How did y'all do that?
  18. Hello, everybody! I just thought I'd drop in and see what you folks be talking about.
  19. I honestly don't think Carthage would score 70 points in a game even if they could, which, against some they actually could if they wanted to. It's just not Scott Surratt's style. The only way I see Carthage scoring 70 is if Henderson scores at least 40. I don't see that happening against the Carthage defense. Just saying...
  20. Newton 34 Waskom 7 West Orange-Stark 34 Salado 20 Cuero 43 Wimberley 28 Pleasant Grove 42 Melissa 28 Katy 34 North Shore 27 Carthage 48 Henderson 20 Allen 41 Trinity 26
  21. It was actually 39-3, but who's counting... It was certainly a beatdown for sure. That team was loaded for sure.
  22. I don't know why y'all brought Gilmer into this, but I'll give my 2 cents. Gilmer's offense is built to score points. Despite what a lot of people "think", they never tried to intentionally run the score up on anybody. They will come at you full throttle with the passing game, then start running. It's tough on defenses because they get gassed with the pace of Gilmer's offense, hence the scores keep coming even when the second team is playing. Their offense doesn't use clock for their possessions until late 3rd or 4th quarter, and can usually score on any given play. When Gilmer does get a big lead, it's still hard to stop it, especially when they have the talent they've had in the past. Carthage has a very different philosophy. They will score plenty of points, then rely on their defense to continue to make stops. Gilmer, and I absolutely hate to say this, doesn't play the kind of defense that can shut the other team down. Carthage can. I'm also pretty sure that if Carthage wanted to they could score 60 points a game, especially this season. I also think there are a couple of teams left that can give Carthage a very good game because they play good defense. One of those teams is La Vega. Yes, I think Carthage can be beat, but it'll take one heckuva team to do it. I'm not sure there's one out there at this point, but you never really know. The X Factor that Carthage has is Coach Scott Surratt and his excellent staff. They know how to game plan. They can make in game adjustments on the fly, as well as halftime adjustments like no other staff I've seen. They know how to win. Period.
