That happened here in Texas a few years ago, at the 5A title game.  Kid playing for a San Antonio team hit a long buzzer beater.  One can only imagine how good 'life' was for him the rest of that school year.
yup, Jay High School. their ex-coach was in this years state tourney as HC of another ballclub. I believe it was Cibolo Steele.
 2.
I watched all of the state championship games in Austin.  We have all watched Sesame Street and the little song "one of these things just doesn't belong here".  The worst example was AAA against Mumford.  Mumford is a very, very good 1A team, but they had to play an AAU team for the state championship.  AAA got booed when receiving their trophy, loudly.  I do not advocate booing high school kids; never done it, never will.  But the crowd knew what they just watched and it made them sick. Then the 3A  championship pitted the Houston all-stars against the Dallas all-stars.  Oops, sorry, I meant to say Yates vs Madison.  Again, looked like an AAU tourney championship instead of a 3A high shool one.  Great talent on the floor, entertaining game, but again--"two of these things just don't belong here". Look, I am not saying whether these schools break the rules or not; in fact it is very possible that they are smart enough to stay just within the bounds.  But any objective observer can clearly see the difference.  The 2A, 4A, & 5A games looked a lot more like what I would have expected to see.  Competitive high school basketball.  In fact the 2A game might have been the best and most entertaining game.  The UIL needs to decide what it wants to be.  We all have our opinions, and maybe we all can't agree.  But I believe that there will be a lot of heat from coaches, fans, etc after the "show" that was put on in Austin.  It's time to call it what it is, make a decision, and go from here.  At least there should be a serious discussion among the adults in the room about where this is going and what the UIL is all about. I enjoyed the tournament very much because I love basketball, but until you see it live and in person, maybe you won't understand.  The system is broken....
+1

HISD considering consolidating with Sterling for 2013-14 Houston Worthing 812 enrolled / 1542 zoned Houston Yates 966 enrolled / 1569 zoned
Savant, honest question here.  Every single school is well below there zoned numbers.  Yates for example is 603 students below there zoned number.  If over 600 students are leaving Yates, how is there basketball team so good?  Maybe their communications department is really that good. Some of you who cry every time one of these teams because they get players from all around..it was their decision to play in uil so why are you complaining..better question did the coach from Mumford complain..if he didn't then u have no gripe...ill say before and until I'm blue in the face WHEN YOU HAVE A WINNING PROGRAM YOU DON'T HAVE TO RECRUIT..as I said before with HJ..SILSBEE ..KOUNTZE..OZEN.. ETC ETC.. And if you think there is a huge difference between hs ball and aau..then ask some of these coaches why they stay in CLOSE contact with the aau coaches..because they have high level of input on the team success..Congrats to all programs who don't cry when they lose and take it on the chin...
Mumford's coach did complain before and after the game. He even made the statement in post game press conference that "Mumford is the 1A DI public school champs".
Okay Aggie, please tell the rest of the story on Mumford & AAU.......
You tell us Dove, you seem to have the info.  :o
What research is there to do? If there was any I'm sure I would comprehend it exponentially better than you. Why do you keep saying I think or the admins. think there's a problem with Vidor? Maybe Crosby just didn't want to have to play 80 miles from home on a Thursday night when most people wouldn't be able to make the game? Who cares who they played before, that has nothing to do with us, and I'm sure if you go ask some of those teams after the game what they thought you would get some polarizing opinions. I don't care if Booker T. played there, we didn't have to play a playoff game there and we didn't. What language do you need that in? I hope we never play Vidor in Vidor 'cause that means they get a home playoff game, how stupid would I be to want that?
80 miles? I was stationed in Abilene and A-High had a Thursday night game in Midland which is 150 miles and some change and packed it in so thats not a good excuse if you trying to make one.

I say this because in the district they are now they only play 4 district games with Hudson and Central not having football programs....so, that is 6 nondistrict games they have to schedule anyway..I assume they could load up on Christian schools and class 1A schools etc but im not sure there are that many around....I have heard from some of my vendors that live there that the "good Ole Boy" system really is evident to the point the head coach has pretty much no say as to which assistants he can hire and they don't have a "total" program from the 7th grade up..i would think its hard to build pride in a program now whose best season for wins in 32 years is 3-7... Like i stated before, i hope somehow someway they meet up in the playoffs and Mathews flips for home field in Vidor and gets it. I'll be in attendance on Vidor side for that one. And who knows, with re-alignment coming up Crosby just might have to go play Vidor in Vidor in district play depending on how crazy the UIL gets.  ;)
I think it was because of all the playoff wins they had before they played us, you know the one back in the sixties? Maybe it was their 3-7 record the prior year that had us running? Maybe it was the Willie Ray Smith winner nobody knows west of the trinity? Or maybe it was stuff like this? [Hidden Content] Like I said, they'll still have those same two playoff wins for years to come and a decade later will be talking about the night in 2011 they beat Crosby.
a 1993 article?
