  1. This subject does need to be dropped. It is negatively affecting the players, coaches and anyone else involved. Anti-Mathew fans need to take their complaints, grips, and problems to someone who can help the situation or get off of it. Otherwise all you are doing it keeping the negative emotions stirring. I realize that this is a public forum, but it is hurting the football program more than it is helping.
  2. Stay home next time or at least get good driving directions because it only took me 1 hour 10 minutes.
  3. I agree. All of the negativity that has been posted on here from so called Pirate fans is just about as embarrassing as last nights score. I just hope that all of the other area schools realize that this is just a small about of people gripping and all of the fans aren't so unsupportive. I know that the players and coaches read this crap and it has got to be effecting them. Those boys have got to be able to walk of the field after a game and know that the fans support them whether they win or lose. But that is kind of hard to do when the stands began to empty half way through the game. Our players always come to the side line after the game (win or lose) to hear their school song played. They look up in the stands where it is nearly empty. What kind of support it that?
  4. Oh yea, the players do read these, I can attest to that.
  5. Vpride, I think pirateunfaithful has indicated his name is Billy Perkins and he sits on the 35 - 40 yard line by the band (close to me), no longer annonymous. However, who cares that Mathews applied for a job somewhere else. He is just like anyone else, trying to better themselves. I, for one, would be looking else where if I made his pay for the work and time he puts in. Can't fault the guy for that. Luckily, win or lose, this man cares for these players and continues to work with them day in and day out.
  6. Great article. Mathews has done a great job and is an awesome motivator. It has been unfortunate that the fans feel it important to degrade the man. Regardless of ill feelings, the fans need to put this behind them and start cheering on the team. The fans in the stands have been slacking in this department.
  7. I am not sure that their are pressures to promote sophmores. There are many sophmores left on the JV team and some seniors who should probably be on the freshman team (if that were possible). Several of the sophmores spent their entire summer at workouts and give it everything they have at practice. I will agree that there are those who walked on to Varsity because they are athletic and that is not fair. However to say for the coach to "worrying about playing time for underclassmen" is unfair. Unfortunately some Varsity players don't find it necessary to go to summer workouts or even attend some practices and others have poor attitudes. For this reason, I believe the coaching staff had to do what has needed to be done, even if it means losing a few more games. Now, I will agree that Mathews should put his "best atheletes" on the field as much as possible, even if the athlete is a sophmore.
  8. "Dayton wins but Vidor will play hard" This may happen, we will see. However win or lose I'll support my boys.
  9. Obviously news release are not always accurate. Gamble was arrested for DWI, not DUI. Driving under the influence is only for minors, not adults. He apparently has a history of family violence and hopefully will get the help he needs this time. I am not putting blame on him because there is always more to the story than we see.
  10. I think Vidor's uniforms are impressive. Looks better than most that I've seen in this area.
  11. From what I heard is that two of the men involved in the altercation have been banned from coaching for at least this next season. These two have been known to either coach or assist in the past.
  12. Not too sure of details. Just know there was a physical altercation between a parent and assistant coach during the championship game. The team had to forfeit the game, which was their 1st lose, and now they have to play again tonight.
  13. Yea, he is a great pitcher. It is a shame that this type of stuff happens, but for it to happen in the middle of a ball game is ridiculous. How embarrassing it must be for those boys.
  14. From what I hear, they will play the championship game tonight, however, they will play it with 2 players less than before.
  15. Shetland is 5 & 6, Pinto is 7 & 8, Mustang is 9 & 10, Bronco is 11 & 12, and Pony is 13 & 14.
  16. Well, I do think that piratefan meant exactly what he said. But I do agree with td in that the "A" team should be the better team. The main thing in your post is "if" the coaches do their job. Unfortunately, I have witnessed many years in the politics of baseball and it is not always the best 12 kids on that first team because the coaches are more concerned for their own kid or as td put it the "side deals."
  17. Not a very nice comment regarding the "B" teams. Both teams have talent and should not be classified as the underdogs.
  18. I can only imagine with all of the politicing that goes on. Somebody is going to eventually let it get to them.
  19. Maybe the Pirate fans had to be split between softball and baseball since both teams were in the playoffs. Good luck guys in game 2. Go get 'em Pirates!
  20. Where do you go to pick them up & do they still have some?
  21. I think Cameron Crapo (?) is pitching for Dayton.
