Wouldn't it be refreshing to see some new blood running things at Lamar? It is time to thank Gilligan for time served, the job he's done and wish him well in retirement. You can drive 100 miles to the east and find out what a mid-major can do (ULL).

Another great job by one of the 'best of the best'....

The program, like the Head Coach, is old, tired and complacent.  Given the talent in this area, there is no reason for Lamar to be as 'middle of the road' as they are (actually, they are worse than middle of the year -- they are in the ditch this year). Talent (or lack thereof) is on the coaching staff as well.  They recruit them and the coach them.  I'd clean house and start over with some energy and an attitude that we can win.  Baseball is a sport where a so-called mid major can compete.  Gilligan can coach a game, get in 18 and have a few pops with the old guard.  That is great for him but not the program.  My two cents.

While I appreciate the impassioned defense of 1 kid who was not selected to the area wide Super Gold team, lets be honest.  He's a catcher.  Two catchers made it ahead of him and you disagree.  At least be honest about it and admit that what you're saying is that Babino's better than the 2 kids who made it -Caleb Henry and Matthew Menard.  But remember this: Henry was the defensive MVP of his district (and also hit .500 on the year) and Menard was the offensive MVP of his.  I think it does those 2 young men a disservice.  They are both very, very good ballplayers and deserved the recognition they received.  This is not meant as a slap at the other kid.  He may very well have been the 3rd best catcher in the area and region and that's not too shabby.

It is time for this clubhouse to be cleaned...and that means from top to bottom.  Ric has hung on for a 'pat on the back' and the head coaching job when G retired.  As the song goes, "Meet the new boss...same as the old boss."  The program is old, it is tired and it is lazy. Time for new blood and new direction.

How good is S-ville pitcher?

This is a program that was 1 of the most competitve in 1 of the State's most competitive districts.  Now, it relies on a weak district and hopes to "back in" with the expanded playoff format.  Legitimate programs build players year in and year out.  Question:  has that happened with Da Brook? When you get to the obvious and unfortunate answer, then the question is: Why?

Matt Menard Bridge City followed by Caleb Henry of Silsbee (although I think Caleb, given his speed could play corner OF ) Menard plays all summer with the #1 ranked C in the country and those coaches tell us that Menard is the a better defender.  That impresses me.

Would take Sonnier here although I believe both he and Roberts may be destined to be 2B at next level.  Stone from PNG is pretty good player as is kid from LCM (whose name escapes me).  Smith @ BC is decent SS although his defense is behind his offense.  He is a 2B at next level.  He swings it very well, tho....

Dishon would be my CF (love his ability to track and go get the ball) with Jacobs in RF.  He's got a hose.  For my 3rd OF, I might lean toward Jalali from PNG.

For the record, the Sun Devils have had some tryouts in the past. Plus, if anybody contacts us (and we don't already know the player), we hold individual tryouts and/or tryout with our team.

Venon 33 must've been kicked out of BC as a kid...or stood up at his prom by a BC girl. If the Mustangs react to a district loss in the same irrational way as their fans, it'll be a long year. With that being said, WOS is still a playoff team, etc. Never, ever count out Dan Hooks...

Man, you got a serious bee in your bonnet about the Dishon kid...plus youre plain wrong. I hope the Cards turn it around but this idea of 'we got to play older kids just because theyre older' is how a program goes downhill. It builds no future.

True words. Smaller schools need to play their good athletes regardless of age or grade. There is simply not enough talent to go around in a smaller, limited pool. At BC, the only 2 freshman that had much playing time last year were Menard and Dishon. Menard replaced Joe Robertson at RB when he was injured and performed superbly. Dishon played WR and contributed as well. This year, Menard is the starting RB and backup QB (he may be the starting QB before all is said and done -- with BC's OL, Lemoine is going to get killed back there). Dishon has made a number of catches already this season and played great at DB. Sure, you could play an older kid but what do you get? Older but less talent. There is a reason a kid at a small school plays JV ball as a junior....not meaning to step on anyone's toes...but facts are facts.

Good article and well-deserved attention. Great program...better people. Southeast Texas is luck to have them around.

Sounds like some people who are on outside looking in might be a little jealous???? Seems to me that this is good info for baseball people. The guy is a top notch coach (one of best in country), who decided to throw in with a local organziation that has nationalpresence. Why isnt that worth being "pinned"? Good grief...don't you guys have something better to do?

Wow. What a move. This guy is a great coach. He'll bring every good player from Louisiana with him. Wow.

How much does this cost?

The cold truth continues to slap the 'powers that be' in BC in the face: Its easy to say 'no' to the BC coaching job. For those who have been out of the country for the past few weeks, a quick review: 1. Coach Bryant is "re-assigned". The pros and cons of that decision have been debated on this board and won't be repeated. It is done. 2. Expecting that any and all would simple 'die' for this opportunity, the "powers that be" sat back and waited. Coach Delome (an early favorite) did not apply (and in fact endorsed Coach Landry from HF). Coach Brevell pulled out early. 3. This left 3: Jagneaux (who has applied for every opening in SE Texas, accepted 1 or 2, and then backed out), Fackler (who had the problem that he wasn't certified) and Landry. 4. Jagneaux and Landry make the final cut and Fackler pulls his application. Jagneaux then (what ????) pulls out, leaving Landry. But wait...BC calls Green and offers him the job. Today, Green turns the job down. So, what does BC do? Call Fackler to see if he is interested, leaving Landry once again twisting... SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? 1. BC's reputation for politics and parental/board "over involvment" precedes them. 2. Green turning them down (read other threads and the "shock" at some BC supporters) shows us: a top 4A job in a top 4A district beats a 3A job. Remember: BC isn't even the biggest 'dog' in their own district: Jasper owns that now, kinda like they've owned BC the past 2 years in the playoffs. Translations? The Vidor job is a better job than the BC job...for many reasons. How far has Vidor come, and how far has BC fallen, for that to happen? 3. The handling of this mess should be humilating to baseball people all across southeast Texas (from the way Bryant was treated thru the presnt). 4. Chad Landry should have had the job from day one. Now what? They're going to try to lure a guy back who pulled his application and has a foundation of sand? If I was Landry, I'm not sure I'd take it now... The ones I really feel sorry for are the young men who are the BC baseball program. Decisions are being made by, and for, the few...
