1. Lots of smoke and defense in the stadium.
2. #8 Childress 75 yard TD run. 2 point convertion. New Caney 32, Georgetown 35. 5:36 to go
3. #22 Moreno 20 yard TD run. Georgetown 35, New Caney 24
4. #11 Sanders in for touchdown. New Caney 24, Georgetown 28. 5:31 to go in the 3rd.
5. Georgetown 28, New Caney 17. 42 seconds left in the half
6. New Caney recovers a fumble. 1st down on their own 16. Georgetown 21, New Caney 17. 1 minute 34 to go in the half.
7. I'm not sure how to call this game. I usually make it to 1 or 2 Georgetown games a year, and 1 or 2 New Caney games. This year I have not seen either one in person. Looking at what little video I can find of New Caney, it looks like they have a pretty athletic QB. Georgetown is playing a different style of football this season than the past few years. More smash mouth than high-octane. They held Seguin who averaged 47 points a game to only 6 points last week, and completely controlled the line of scrimmage. It will be interesting to see how they match up.
8. It's all about coaching. I went to Georgetown K-10, and it is a school that has had very little talent over the years, yet coach Dean has them in the playoffs every year almost for the last 7 or so years. Tomball just needs a decent coach.
9. When I graduated from Tomball in '93, we were 6-4. My junior year we were 8-2. Before that Tomball went something like 20 years straight with playoff appearances. Since '93 only 3 winning records I think. Pretty embarrassing.
10. Next week there will be lots of blue and lots of Eagles!
11. Georgetown got hosed in this one. I was there, and it has been a long time since I have seen such a poorly officiated game that may have effected the outcome. Having said that, I don't think PNG has a chance to keep the score within 21 points of College Station.
12. Good job New Caney! I will be rooting for them against FB Marshall
13. I have to give credit to Nederland fans, they were there early and loud. Very good defense by Nederland which probably contributed to a lot of uncaracteristic dropped passes by Gtown. If it wasn't for the Gtown defense hitting hard and creating turnovers, might have been a closer game. Gtown brings the JV to all the playoff games, so the manpower is exagerated.
14. My football coach at Tomball back in 92 told my team "never listen to anything I say to the media." Having said that here is a qoute from the Beaumont Enterprise: Nederland coach Larry Neumann said. "If there's a better quarterback in this state, I'd like to see him." speaking of Hubenek of of Georgetown who has thrown for more yardage individually than the the 3 QBs from Dayton, Connally, and Dawson combined.
15.
A lot of you dog fans are trying to make it seem like the close knit brotherhood the Nederland players posses will overwhelm the eagles, but I'd say that Georgetown matches that same brotherhood if not exceeds it. These seniors have been playing on the same side of the ball since third grade and some even younger, which explains a lot of this seasons success. The one thing that worries me is how the eagles will play in a close game. They've only been down twice this season, but for a very short period of time. Needless to say I'm a little anxious to watch this matchup
I agree with this. Gtown has never had much talent, and I have seen them pull off victories over teams that were just way better than them with shear heart and determination. Art Briles (Baylor) I think was 1-19 at Gtown before he went to Stephenville and won all those state championships. But even so Gtown has always fought harder than any teams I ever saw. I went to Gtown K-9 but graduated and played football for Tomball toward the end of their 20 year playoff streak in the early 90's. Even with such a history the Tomball culture was weak compared to Georgetown.
16. Georgetown's season low on offense was 31 points, so lets just say the Nederland D can hold them to a season low of 21 points. After watching the Nederland/Dawson game the Nederland O is going to have a hard time scoring against the Gtown D, which is probably just as good as the Nederland D. The Nederland D is going to have to return some interceptions, because I dont think their offense has what it takes against a brutal defense.
17.
I dont know if thats a very good gauge to use.. They only scored 3 against Nederland's defense..
Both teams should be respected. I have seen Nederland many times and they will bring a crowd. Gtown does not have the history that Nederland does, but has the heart. They scored 34 on Pflugerville. This is a dangerous team both on offense and defense...
18.
Pflugerville had a fast paced offense too. The Dogs have seen it before. Obviously GT is of higher caliber than PC, but the tempo won't be something the defense can't handle.
Pflugerville scored (0) against Gtown
19. I just watched the Nederland/Dawson video. Should be an interesting game. Dawson ran the ball a lot and seemed to be fairly predictable. Had opportunities in the secondary but didn't convert except for a long pass in the 3rd. Give credit to the Nederland D. Gtown has a pretty different O than Dawson, faster paced and mixing up the play calling. I cant wait to be at Berry Center on Saturday to watch the game.
20.
Went to and played for PN-G, I live in Round Rock, just 5 minutes from Georgetown.  But I will be at this next game with my PN-G shirt on, raising heck for the bulldogs!   Glad to see my neighbors up here in my neck of the woods.  My wife and I will be there! That said, I've seen Georgetown play twice this year.  Do not underestimate them.   When they were in 5A, they were nearly winning against Round Rock Stony Point who made it to the semi's 2 years in a row.  They always made us nervous.  They are very well coached and do not get discouraged.  Their wins this season is proof of that.  So don't get cocky, may come back to bite you.   Respect all, but fear no one!  Go Bulldogs!
That's because of the Georgetown culture. "Eagle fight never dies". I have never seen a Gtown team give up no matter how bad they are...since 1980. In 1999 they rallied back against Lufkin from a 28-0 deficit in the 3rd quarter to tie the game. The always lay it on the line and die on the battle field
21. This should be a close game, with the better defense prevailing. The Gtown D cannot be underestimated as they held Connelly, Manor, and Elgin to just 16 points total. Teams that have combined to go 6-2 in the playoffs thus far. Also the Gtown D held Angleton to just 14 offensive points through 3 quarters, so the final score is a little skewed. Nederland will have to score quick, and maintain a lead. Georgetown wins in a tight one.
